If you love art this is a perfect place for you especially on a rainy day maybe.I really enjoyed my visit to HOMA, but I have to say, the admission price is on the higher side. The museum itself is beautiful, with a great collection of contemporary art, and the space is well-designed. The exhibits are engaging, and I appreciated how each one had its own unique vibe and perspective. It's definitely a place for art lovers. However, the ticket price alone can feel a bit steep. That said, it makes perfect sense to pair the HOMA ticket with a visit to Shangri La. When you buy the ticket for Shangri La, HOMA admission is complimentary, which feels like a much better deal if you're planning to check out both. Overall, I had a great time, but I'd recommend taking advantage of the Shangri La combo to get the most out of your experience without breaking the bank.

Our hotel offers complementary admission for its guests and every visit to Honolulu, somehow we never get the opportunity to visit HOMA. But on this recent visit, we made it one of our priorities to check out the museum on a Friday afternoon. We parked at the parking lot diagonally across the street on Victoria St behind the HOMA School and paid for 3 hours for $9.30 thru ParkLinq via the instructions on the sign. HOMA was founded in 1927 has an internationally recoginized collection of more than 50,000 art pieces including works from van Gogh, Monet, Picasso, Warhol and art from Hawaii and Asian cultures. There are 29 exhibition rooms with 4 of those rooms located on the second floor. There are five courtyards, of which I enjoyed the Chinese one for its beauty and zen, and there a café and museum shop.We took a leisurely stroll through the museum and admired many of the interesting pieces and were able to see the entire museum in about 2 hours and 15 minutes. So glad that we got to visit HOMA and checked it off our list. It was a nice hotel comp of $25 a ticket. If you're into art and have some time, check out HOMA.

The HoMa museum was our last stop of the day this past Saturday after a very busy day. I was feeling tired, but did want to explore as much as I could in the museum. We went to the Japanese, Chinese, Buddha exhibits on the left side of the building and then made our way to the right side of the building to see a Vincent Van Gogh painting and Monet painting. There are some other exhibits we stopped at that caught our eye and were worth seeing. Before we left we took a short pit stop at the Mediterranean Courtyard to rest our legs again. The courtyard is truly beautiful and peaceful. If we had more time I would have loved to sit there for longer, but we had to continue on as we had other places to be. After leaving the courtyard, we stopped at the museum gift shop and I bought artwork from a local artist (punky aloha). I left the museum impressed with the exhibits it had to offer. We didn't go to all the exhibits, but we picked and chose the ones that would be most interesting to us. And the exhibits were easy enough for us to consume even after a long day - they didn't feel overwhelming. The museum also offers free lockers people can use if you don't want to carry your bags around. I would recommend this place to others. I also like that they have community events. I wish our trip could have been longer for us to go to an event, but maybe next time.

Fairly large sized art museum with lots of great art. My favorite of course was the art focusing on Hawaiian culture. We aimed to focus on those exhibits as we knew we could not hit all of the exhibits in the time we had. My favorite part was the outdoor garden portions of the museum. I love the way it was laid out so you walked through garden areas to get to the different exhibits. This was a nice break from the indoors. The restaurant and some of the main exhibits seemed to be closed when we went. But overall a great experience and worth checking out if you have some extra time in Honolulu!

It's a wonderful museum to visit! Their collection is impressive and pretty diverse compared to other museums I've been to. A great place to spend the day and enjoy the visuals. The staff is very friendly, and the cafe in the courtyard is a great place to get some work done.

Have an extra afternoon in Honolulu or live on Oahu? Visit Honolulu Museum of Art located on Beretania near Ward Avenue. Parking available in a lot close by. The museum offers traveling exhibits, local art and historical collections. In addition to a world class art collection, HOMA provides excellent dining for brunch and lunch events. Plenty of areas to sit and relax plus a great place for photos as well. For a weekend evening activity, check the HOMA website for Friday/Saturday evening events, drinks & food choices, plus live music!

This is a smaller museum, but it is located right in town. They have many of the big artists as well as a few I didn't know of who are more modern. For the big names like Matisse, Picasso, Van Gough, et cetera, they will most likely have 1 example. The museum is both on the 1st and 2nd floors, so you will need to go to both floors to see it all.Their Pacific island artwork/gallery is definitely better than any you would see on the mainland. I remember the mainland is more African American and Middle Eastern the last few times I went (before covid). Anyway, if you are just wanting to support the arts, visit it! It is relaxing and you can just chill in the A/C. Of course the gift shop is expensive, but they do carry some interesting things. Price point is about 10-200 USD for the various things.

The Honolulu Museum of Art is home to many interesting and story-rich pieces! The exhibits had ample space for people to walk around comfortably and the placards held a wealth of information. I had a great time walking around with a friend! The people at the front desk where you buy tickets were super helpful and the weather was also perfect the day we went! Highly recommend!
