Excited to check out Hiromi-Ya, a new yakiniku and hot pot spot on Kapahulu Avenue, and it did not disappoint! Despite only being open for 9 days, their service was excellent, and the staff made us feel very welcome. This is a small, cozy restaurant that offers a BYOB policy with no corkage fee--a huge plus! We brought our own drinks and settled in for a delicious meal. We ordered three meat dishes: Wagyu Special Rib Eye - buttery, tender, and full of flavor Wagyu Kalbi - beautifully marbled and grilled to perfection Harami Skirt Steak - juicy and packed with rich beefy goodness The Scallop Butter was another standout--four sashimi-grade scallops grilled in butter, and they were absolutely delicious. The Tanuki Tofu was a great complement to the heavier meats, offering a nice balance to the meal. While the price-to-portion ratio is on the higher side, the meat quality is top-notch, making it worth the splurge. Overall, a fantastic experience with high-quality ingredients and attentive service. Would definitely return and recommend this spot to any yakiniku lovers looking for a great BYOB dining experience!

I am not one to leave reviews, but my friend and I had such a negative experience here that I feel obligated to leave one. We had a dinner reservation and our server was very polite, however, the portion sizes were quite small for the price. Even still, we wanted to have a nice dinner and order everything we wanted to try. There were two servers working, and although they were polite, we were rarely checked on. We were ordering yakiniku items and when we requested to change the grill, they said they don't do that and instead just put ice on the grill to "clean it." After finishing our food, we had sat there for a good twenty minutes without being asked if we wanted our check. There were only 3 other tables and when we looked around, the two servers were standing in the back area talking. My friend had to flag down the server to ask for the check, after which they quickly brought it out so we paid and left. The entire experience was very mid and underwhelming, but my main concern is that the restaurant called my friend (who gave her number for the reservation) after we left to ask us if we could come back because we didn't leave enough tip. What kind of restaurant calls their customers to hound them for tip? It was very unprofessional and we both have never experienced anything like this. My friend felt a lot of pressure and anxiety, and because of this, we will never be returning.

I liked it. Previous reviews don't do this place justice. Yes the prices are a little high and portions aren't that big. But if you get the set menu plus add on a few meats it's not too bad. The quality of the meat is really high and this is a cool fusion of Japanese and korean style dishes. The restaurant is obviously Japanese styled so please expect polite waiters, but also them allowing you time to socialize. If you need something just ask and they'll accommodate. Currently it's BYOB so you can make the experience as much as you like.
