Great lunch with excellent servicing.Had the mini salt meat with watercress soup, the salted meat was very tender, the generous watercress was freshly deposited on presentation, nicely done! Will probably go with the regular size...next time.Poi, fresh and complementary starch with the meal. The pipikaula chunks were properly seasoned and chewy textured. An enjoyable local kine lunch!

I've heard great things about this place and my partner was visiting Honolulu for the first time so I had to show him where the good stuff was at! The service was good and the staff were extremely friendly and helpful. There is bar seating (looked like a full bar) and table seating - the place was pretty spacious. Parking is limited since it is in a popular complex, so I suggested arriving a little early. We ordered the tasting plate so we could try everything. The portions were pretty big and we certainly were able to try a lot of items. The chicken lau lau was a bit dry, but the other dishes were very good. The absolute gem of the day was the deep-fried butterfish collar 'n' stew gravy - absolutely delicious! The flavors of the fish and the gravy went so well together. We also tried the pipikaula, which I thought would be dry, but it was tender and flavorful. I think this is a great place to dine whether it's your first time in Honolulu or if you are local. Recommend to anyone in the area looking for some good food!

Staff is friendly, parking is horrible. I ordered the Hawaiian tasting plate, the Squid Luau and Kalua Pig was DELICIOUS. Long Rice had no flavor and the Pork Lau Lau was dry.Server was extremely friendly

Great food, friendly service. The short ribs plate was my favorite. Everything was a tad too salty, but our server's hospitality made up for it. Definitely reserve in advance for larger parties because it does get busy.

I finally got to try Highway Inn after hearing so many good things about it. Its nice to have authentic Hawaiian food in town.Of course I ordered the sig Tasting Plate w/ pork lau lau, kalua pig, lomi salmon, chicken long rice, squid luau, poi, sweet potatoes and haupia. All of the food was really good, esp the lau lau. The meat was tender and nicely seasoned. Although the overall taste is not as good as Helenas, you will not leave hungry here. If you add pipikaula, you have enuf food for two normal people. Our waiter Jun-Jun was super nice & attentive. After I ordered the Tasting Plate, he read my mind and offered me chili peppa water. Regarding the ambiance, its casual here. Bfast, lunch & dinner are served.I would definitely come back to Highway Inn. Its conveniently located off Nimitz, and they serve their food with a lot of Aloha.

This was only my 2nd or 3rd time here. Personally, I think it's a little bit overrated. However, if you're a tourist and you ask me where to get Hawaiian (not just local) food, I'm probably still going to think of Highway Inn. But it's a little out of the way for me.I ordered a fish sandwich (forgot the pic!) It was pretty good actually. Came on a taro bun. Friends ordered kalua pig & cabbage, smoked meat, and a lau lau plate. All seemed to enjoy the food. It's the wait that kills me - thankfully wasn't too bad this time, but when we got there after 1p, there were still 4 parties ahead of us waiting. Thankfully parking was taken care of with the validation - not sure how long they provide, but I didn't pay at the gate.Service was great, friendly, they took care of us. There was a service charge added to our bills, though.

With the legendary Ono's closed locals recommended Highway Inn.The loco moco did not disappoint-- either in portions (very generous) or taste: one of the best comfort dishes in the world. Chicken teriyaki was popular at our table, too. Potato mac salad delivered. The Squid was fine but not sure I would order it again. Expected heftier squid chunks, and less sweetness in the greens. Steamed taro slices were tasty as was the lomi salmon thatal accompanied the combo. Haupia was definitely refreshing to finish the meal.Service was solid. Especially towards closing. They helpfully asked if anyone needed validated parking. Street parking was available but lot was full.Loved the table they sat us at: solid wood with comfortable benches.

Made a little visit to Highway Inn! I haven't been here in awhile so it was really nice coming back and just seeing how the place is doing! ***What I ordered ~ **Plantation Iced Tea (10/10) ~ Just get it. It's super good, the perfect ratio, and not overall sweet. I chugged it by the time I finished all my food and it's so refreshing! **Mochiko Chicken Plate (8/10) ~ I wasn't a huge fan of the fried rice, but the mochiko chicken was SOOOOO damn good. Super crispy and juicy! It also came out pipping hot too! Overall,The hostess is super rude, but our sever was really sweet and the food was great! Wouldn't mind coming back for the chicken though!

Good Hawaiian Food! This was my first time trying this place with friends. We arrived at a good time and were seated within 10 minutes. We decided to try something we have never had before. We wanted something different. Tjus is the place to come if you are looking for good food and good service. We ordered the Highway Inn Tasting Plate with Pork Lau Lau.It included the following items...- Poi - definitely something I have been wanting to try. I personally liked it. The flavor and texture are hard to describe but worth trying it at least once. - Squid Lau- I really like this one but it would be nice if there was more Squid. The flavor was good! - Kālua Pig- One of my faves! The meat was tender, smokey and juicy. My second favorite! - Lomi Salmon- The star of the show. My favorite! The combination of flavors were on point! Loved it!- Chicken long rice- This was another good one. The rice was so good! I definitely recommend this. - Haupia- This was different and my taste buds didn't care for it, but a couple of my friends loved it. It's more of a personal preference. It looked and smelled good to me. - Sweet potato - anything with sweet potato is good. The prices are reasonable here and the portions are generous. I'm looking forward to coming back and trying something else.

Went around 10am on a Saturday and Highway Inn Kaka'ako was slowly getting busier and busier. Located in the Salt Plaza, there's plenty of other shops around the area you can leisurely stroll through, and I believe they validate parking. The inside of the restaurant is spacious and clean, and has a more quiet and homey vibe.I ordered a mini loco moco, subbed brown rice, and chose the potato-macaroni salad. It was pretty mid - the rice was dry (which I guess is why most people say they don't like brown rice - places don't cook it well!) and the gravy was a mush, bland and salty. The salad was alright, nothing wrong there. Pretty big portion, as I was able to save half for lunch the next day.Service was scarce - the inside of the restaurant is huge and the servers were all over the place trying to accommodate all the patrons. It was slow-pickings on getting water refills and the cheque.
