We came here to pick up some lunch before heading to Lanikai Beach. Very casual place. We got the Kalo Kale-Pesto Burger, Lau Lau Chicken, and Kalui Pork and egg plate. All the entrees were very good. The chicken was very tender. The burger bun was made with taro which went well with the burger. Service was friendly and helpful. Good spot for take out or dine in food. Parking was plentiful in their lot.

Update: Went again recently and listen..There's a 3.5% charge to use a card and the menu prices reflect cash only prices. Its more expensive than other places nearby (7-11, HoloHolo Express & McDonalds).I don't understand why they were so slow even with 2 employees prepping the food/beverages.

Over on this side island to hike a trail near by. When we have time after a hike we stop by local coffee shops and give them a try.Counter person was a very nice young woman. First needed to acquire the key to bathroom to clean up a little before ordering. It was a muddy day on the trail.Ordered coffees, waffle with fruit and Banana Poi Bread. The coffee had a nice strong flavor, the waffle was yummy with the fruit and the bread was moist, good although I think I prefer regular banana nut breadThe service was good. If back in the area we may stop again to support a small local business.

I ordered the Beef Stew (oddly they didn't even know they offer it), mistakenly thinking it was the Pastele Stew, and found a hair in my food. I informed the staff, and they took it back, removed the scoop of mac salad, and replaced it. However, they did not apologize. While it wasn't the worst experience, it also wasn't good enough for me to return. I hope this review helps them improve on the key points I mentioned.Service 3/5Food 3/5Ambiance 4/5

This is an amazing out of the way place. If on Oahu you must come to this restaurant on the southeast corner of the island for a truly local experience. Nalo Sunrise waffle with banana and strawberry. Kahlua pork and cabbage. Loco moco. Avocado toast. All natural ingredients made on site. Delicious. Also had homemade strawberry guava lemonade. You order at the counter and find a table. There's about 8 tables inside and a few outside.

A small group of us stopped in to grab some takeout for a beach picnic, so we didn't get the sit down experience (and they do have a sit down area both indoors and some tables outside that I assume are for this cafe). When we arrived there was a guy outside who I don't think was related to the restaurant blowing a conch shell who also cheerfully greeted us as we passed by, so that was kinda random and amusing.I got the Kalo Burger (another term for taro), since I was curious about the homemade veggie patty (but they do have a Beyond burger patty as well). The taro patty itself doesn't have egg in it (I am allergic) and I believe they said it was vegan, but the bun has eggs so they switched me to the gluten-free bun (and I'm floored that the GF bun somehow was egg-free, I was going to suggest just putting it on a bed of lettuce for me, LOL). The patty was just okay, which is sad for someone who likes taro--I think it might have actually been better on a bed of lettuce because it was a bit too much starchy/carby stuff with the bun, not to mention that it comes with kettle chips (but I will never complain about getting potato chips, LOL). My husband got the Famous Gorg (in spite of me warning him that the "gorg" is short for gorgonzola, which he typically doesn't like) and surprisingly liked it. Another friend got a quesadilla (it wasn't on their online menu, but it was listed on the wall and he decided to get that while we were in line instead of what he was thinking of getting on the way over, so it might have been a special) and I think my other friend got the Creamy Garlic Chicken Burger, but I don't fully remember. I think everyone was okay with their sandwiches, although I do remember my husband being especially pleased with the lillikoi dressing on his Gorg, so I think he was probably the happiest of us all, LOL. I think the food experience is better if you're not vegetarian (which I just happen to be).As mentioned earlier, we didn't get to do a sit down experience, but it looks like a cute little cafe with some small Hawaii-themed and local things for sale near the ordering counter. The staff were friendly and I really appreciate that they did their best to figure out if there was egg in any part of the Kalo Burger (although it was kinda clear they hadn't had a similar question about it before, LOL) to accommodate my food allergy. Overall, a nice place, and I wouldn't be opposed to returning next time I'm in the area, but I probably also wouldn't make a special trip just for it.

Came to Hawaiian Island Cafe because it's one of the highest related breakfast places in Oahu! We each got a country breakfast- mine was with organic apple chicken sausage, rice, multigrain toast, two eggs sunny side up. It was so so so good, so hearty and filling for breakfast and I didn't feel too stuffed. The food came out hot and it was just so tasty! We also got a macadamia iced coffee which was good too. Before leaving, I got one of their huge banana breads and it was AMAZING- literally one of the best banana breads I've ever had! Would highly recommend. Service was really wonderful and personable and the cafe itself has plenty of seating.

OMG! Stopped for a snack after picking up some plants from Koba's. The tofu salad was AMAZING! Fresh greens, tomato, and tofu were good. But what made this salad special was the addition of taegu and a shoyu-sesame special sauce. Sooooo ono. The taegu was soft and tasty. I've never had taegu soft like that. I'm used to the Daegu being hard.I forgot to take a pic because I couldn't stop eating. We decided to dine in instead of eating in the car and the vibe of the place was so relaxed and welcoming. We ended up talking story with one of the locals. When we were done, one of the regulars told us their specialty is pastele stew and acai bowls. Definitely need to come back to try both of them. Mahalo Hawaiian Island Cafe!

Hawaiian Island Cafe is an authentic little hole in the wall cafe is the best way to describe it. Everything here is casual with paper plates and paper cups. Lots of locals come here on lunch break. We had the strawberry acai bowl and the Portuguese breakfast and both were delicious! The breakfast is very carb heavy with lots of rice and bread, but tasty nonetheless. Service was cordial and attentive. Please note they do not offer restrooms for customers and you must dispose of all trash outside. Those two components were a bit different for a cafe.

Got a caramel macchiato, iced coffee, and a deluxe burger. The burger was decent, but not memorable. The meat could have used some more seasoning and marinate. My coffee drinks were also just decent, nothing to brag about. However, nothing was gross just mediocre Staff was friendly and answered all of my questions when it came to their menu. They have a small seating area so that may be a struggle depending on the day you go.
