While I normally would say that I love this company's product, I can't say that based on ordering on line from the mainland. I am aware that chocolate is temperature sensitive, and when I ordered over $100 worth of boxes of chocolate to use as gifts, they arrived in a box in San Diego with half melted ice packs. Although I picked them up at my front door as the delivery person was closing my gate, they were apparently not as cool as they needed to be. Since most were gifts, we only opened one box to find a white coating or "bloom" over the nuts. Now I have seen chocolate from the refrigerator get this white film- but it is generally all over the chocolate. This was just over the nut inside the chocolate. I got sick after eating a couple , and upon closer inspection I wondered if it wasn't a temperature thing-but a mold thing? Maybe from them being too hot? I wrote the company only to find out they do NOT reimburse or replace any products due to the temperature sensitivity. So on that note I would highly discourage anyone from ordering on line for a delivery off island. All boxes I received have an expiration date in Jan of 2025- just 4 1/2 months away. If you live in Hawaii, or find them in a store to purchase on hand, you should consider yourself lucky to enjoy good chocolate.

I'll be honest, I was very much looking forward to coming to the shop after Christmas. But don't waste your time, Hawaiian Host doesn't sell direct to consumer. After try to find the visitor entrance to the Alakawa St location, there was a whole lot of nothing. There as a visitor entrance, but after going through the visitor entrance door, I was greeted by a locked door where it looked like you needed to badge in. No reception area, so I guess visitors are not welcomed. I tried calling their sales department and had to leave a voicemail for their hotline. I was called back the day after and they let me know that I was only able to buy in select retail stores or online. Bummer that there is no direct to consumer experience - factory tour & gift shop. It would really allow loyal Hawaiian Host patrons such as myself a chance to personally connect with the brand. But I guess it's transactional. I'd honestly give 0 stars, but 1 is as low as it will go.

Similar reviews on various sites. VERY product quality. Brand new box of Island Macs. Opened it up and 100% "blooming". It means the cocoa butter has evaporated. Product is very dry. Company refuses to do anything. Buyer Beaware.

Hawaiian Host is a chocolatier with local roots. BRIEF HISTORY:Mamoru & Aiko Takitani of Maui started experimenting with chocolate in 1950. After moving to Oahu, they purchased Ellen Dye Candies in 1960, renamed it to "Hawaiian Host", and the rest is history. They've expanded with manufacturing and distribution to California and Japan.THE GOODS:Everything they sell starts with either macadamia nuts or chocolate, or a combination of both. They take things a step further with additional ingredients like dark chocolate, caramel, crisped rice, matcha, fruit and coconut. Offerings are endless - candy bars, snack sizes, bulk, gift sets...LOVES:I have two favorites, the Founder's Collection Milk Chocolate (the infamous, chocolate-covered macadamia nuts in a box) and Macnut Crunch (chocolate-covered macadamia nut clusters with crisp rice mixed in). Compared to other brands, Hawaiian Host seems to have the crunchiest and freshest nuts, and perfectly-balanced chocolate recipe. So where do you buy these delectables? On the company's website, and most stores throughout the islands, including Costco. OVERALL:Charlie and the Chocolate Factory really does exist!

I met someone who works here named Ana Marie Aguilar. After she got $11,000 from me she ignored my calls at first and blocked me later. the very day she got that money from me was the very last chat we had. She told me she was looking for a church and trying to be a good Christian. Thats a total lie and a joke.

Beware of buying chocolate from Hawaiian Host. All of the Dark Chocolate Alohamacs (H43102B Best before 5/26) in the 5 boxes were discolored with a white coating. They are hard and lack the rich chocolate taste that we enjoyed in prior years. To add insult to injury the customer service rep was rude in refusing to replace. From reading other reviews I see that I am not alone. No Aloha from this company.

My wife bought 7 boxes of Macadamia nuts chocolate and in the past the shipments were just the boxes of chocolate but this time it was shipped in a big box with ice packs indicating something is not right with the freshness of the content. True enough, upon opening all the 7 boxes, all the chocolate nuggets were whitish and blooming. Even after feedback to HHG customer service no action was taken to replace or refund. Furthermore escalation to HHG CEO gathers no action or response at all. This is the most awful service I ever received. This is the last time I am buying from HHG.

DON'T order anything online from Hawaiian Host (or Mauna Loa). I strongly suspect they sell old product and put it in new bags with a new "fresh" expiration date. This has happened twice now and these orders are not cheap! Their customer dissatisfaction folks just reply, "it must be your taste buds." They don't even make an effort to make it right. It's obvious when you have stale product that is turning, so I suspect this is a SCAM by a desperate company. The Hawaii State Attorney General Consumer Protection Division should investigate. See reviews by Gerald P. and others for similar situations. Sad. This used to be a solid company.

We purchased a six pack bag of Hawaiian Host MACADAMIA CHOCOLATES in Honolulu Hawaii on December 14th 2023. We just opened the package on January 20th 2024 and found the nuts to be rancid. The lot number is H32572A and a best before 03/2025. I have I have requested replacement of the product., and am happy to send the unused packages of chocolates to Hawaiian Host for verification. This is the response I received from Hawaiian Host:While we are very sorry to hear about the experience, we do not send replacements or refunds because we sell perishable and temperature sensitive products. We also do not take product back for the same reason.. Hawaiian Host states this but you can order directly from their website!! Never again will I purchase their product!BEWARE!!!!
