Animal lovers (myself included) look forward to the annual Hawaii Pet Expo, sponsored by the Hawaii Veterinary Medical Association and others generous sponsors and helpful vendors and volunteers. This free two-day returned this year to the NBC Exhibition Hall after a three-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 public health emergency. It's usually scheduled around Mothers Day weekend; this year, it coincided with National Pet Week.So much passion and love for our furry companions on display - you can easily sense it, even while standing in line to enter the NBC Exhibition Hall.Especially loved watching pawticipants in the dog races and seeing the beautiful meowficent cats! There were also koi, rabbits, and birds - alot of aloha for pets!Catch up on the latest pet products/services and show specials from vendor booths.Already looking forward to next year's expo!!!

The Per Expo is back, and it is free to enter. But they are taking canned food and money for donations at the door. My group came early a little bit before doors opening. There was a line that already formed outside the door, but entering the building was pretty quick. They have opportunity to take a photo office soon as you walk in. This expo is huge there's rows and rows of fun stuff to buy, games to play, photo offs, there's food there's clothes there's leashes there's decor, they have stuff for all the animals. There were coif fish and turtles. There was a lot of dogs from small to large and a lot of dogs in strollers.I found lot of stuff that was discounted especially for the Expo, Like things that were five dollars, leashes three dollars, costumes for for $10 All the vendors were super friendly,We made out with a lot of fun stuff. If only we were able to stay a little longer and see everybody else. People recognize my dogs "Jax" fromthe secret life of Jax. That was so cute to hear people say "that's a Jax". I lost my voice saying aloha to everyone, taking story, laughing and having a good time. I brought cash, this made it easier for me and quicker to get in and out. I also bought a big bag, which I filled up in the first 20 minutes of me getting there. I would bring your own bag. If you have a stroller for your dog, I would suggest that being the safest bet, since it was so crowded. I was worried for the really tiny dogs, when their owners were busy and not focusing on them. People aren't looking at the ground for the little ones . I felt extremely comfortable in our stroller. I brought my "Rollerskating Dog Stroller group" with me. One of ladies in the group, thus was her first time at the pet expo, she left saying "let's do this again next year"I might come back tomorrow, and I will definitely be back next year.

OMG! I'm so glad the pet expo is back this year! They took a 3 year hiatus because of Covid. Normally the expo is held Mothers day weekend, but this year was a curve ball and is a week prior! Admission is free, pets are welcomed, Parking should be $5 per car at the blaisdell. The Hawaii Dachshund Rescue group will also be there this year and will have a doxie derby on Sunday, May 7th! My son will be entering (and losing) again.

I really love animals, especially my own pets who I treat just as well as my human children. When I saw the pet expo pop up on the yelp event list I was super excited!I brought my youngest fur child, Boof, since he is the most well behaved in public. Admission was free at the Blaisdell, but parking was $6. There were a ton of people and pets there and Boof was so excited to see and play with whoever wanted to give him attention. There was a wide variety of companies offering services from pet food to veterinarians to pet hotels, pet training, clothing and also rescue services. Every booth peaked my interest and of course I ended up going home with bags of treats and goodies for my littles at home. My favorite things to do were the free photo booth and the free photo keychain. There was a long line of course to get these but it was worth it. I look forward to next year's pet expo.

Run run, fun in the sun. My fur-son and I had a super silly morning playing and running. It's always fun to have a surprise goal in mind that he doesn't know about. As we approached Blaisdell, his ears went up and nose started going crazy. "Other pups, dad?! Lots of pups?! There's mommy!!" It's the best thing in the world to see him go super happy to be somewhere fun, and the Hawaii Pet Expo seems like heaven for him. That's the best reason to come; this show is not just pet friendly, but encouraged. You'll see every breed of dog, many cats, birds, and even lizards and fish attending the show in carrying containers. The Hawaii Pet Expo is held every May at Blaisdell Exhibition Hall. It's a two-day event, so it's not as crowded at any particular time. You enter from the Diamond Side near the parking, not the main doors as for many other shows. This show is FREE entry for the whole family; but you can make donations to many local charities present. The event staff is all volunteers and do a great job making it safe and fun for everyone. Be sure to take a pamphlet and some free poopie bags! Also, be courteous and read all the signs about where you can and can't dispose of accidents. Parking is street for meter (or free on Sunday), or $6 flat for the garage. The show is organized like many conventions here, booths are lined in rows around the perimeter and down the center. They had many club booths for breeds and types of animal, pet supply companies, local stores, online retailers, human food places, and animal clinics/hospitals. Many places had free swag. Others offered their wares for sale. There were so many fun smells that our little one kept jumping up to see what was being offered too! There are also activities and scheduled events, so be sure to see the website or brochure. These included dog and cat parades and obedience demonstrations. This is a worthwhile event to attend for anyone with pets. You'll find great items to buy and information to learn. For the pets, it's the best place to sniff some new butts and get some free treats!

Hawaii Pet ExpoThere are just a few times during the year that the expos at the Blaisdale are free. The Hawaii Pet Expo is one of those rare chances that you can come and go as often or little as you like - not worring that you spent an arm and a leg on getting 4 tickets for only a few hours of time.Hawaii Pet Expo is kinda new to the scene. But well worth it to check out if you can.The Hawaii Vet Docs were one of the main promoters of the event. So very valuable to go and visit them while there. They had the most engaging activity of a fake room/ house that you take a paper and write down all of the things that are dangerous to pets.I got to talk story just a bit with some of the DVMs about the new Honey Bee Laws that just changed. Super glad that some of the docs know about what honey bees need to be healthy.Keiki Favorite!Favorite event booth- the petting zoo.In the keiki area there was a bunny, a sheep and a kid goat. In the able to pet area was a cow, a goat, and a llama. The keiki area had the gentlest tamest animals that were extreamly used to having parents and keiki pet them to no end. Hours and hours the pets put up with getting poked and proded. The llama does spit at people if you do tease it the wrong way but didn't take off any peoples fingers when I was there.... no it didn't take any fingers the weekend neither. So kind the family that took care of other families keiki watching the whole time to make sure that all were safe. The petting zoo was also donation based during the event- so you wouldn't feel bad if the kids just went in - got scared and then walked out that second. There were not too many fish- less than I expected. There were the famous Koi. Very delicate tanks held very valuable koi.The event caters heavily to dog and cat owners- completely understandable. Some of the prize winning cats and dogs had their show ribbons during the rest of the weekend to show off their owners prides. Was the event packed? No- not really. The booths were pretty much full in the areana space but there were a few open areas. There was the show space so people could sit when needed.Overall- healthy event for both mind and body.Lucky we Stay Hawaii.

One of the most anticipated conventions of the year that I look forward to is the famous Hawaii Pet Expo. It's been my fur-child and I's tradition to attend one every year. What a great way to celebrate National Pet Week. The event is held annually in May at the Neal S. Blaisdell Center at the Exhibition Hall. Parking is either street meter parking, or pay a flat rate of $6 at the Blaisdell parking lot for an all day stay. The two day event (Saturday and Sunday 10am-4pm) is free. Donations are welcome to benefit the Hawaiian Humane Society and the Hawaii Foodbank. Families, fur-children and friends of all types are openly welcome to attend the expo. The expo is a great environment to meet other pet owners and vendors to talk about anything. We were handed plastic bags for dog waste with a towel at the door upon the entrance. The event is organized with handed maps to some of the local vendors that are present at the event. I love walking around the convention with my pup. He gets excited every year to sniff other dogs that gallivant the quarter. These furry kids leave a lasting impression since there are so many beautiful breeds.Besides the shopping portion (which I'll get to in a minute), there are a variety of dog, cat, bird and fish clubs with booths that are readily able to answer questions. Specific booths are breed focused which hold informative packets for training and etc. What's even great is the event is for anyone with or without a pet that is interested in looking to give a pet a home. Organizations are present to give pet care advice to new pet parents as well as display "Dangers in Your Home and How to Keep Your Pets Safe" demonstrations. The convention is very interactive and informative with a world of information. Local veterinarians, emergency pet hospitals as well as pet daycare, room and boarding are present from around the aina. While it's a little overwhelming, there are pamphlets for grabs, and assistants are friendly behind these booths. If you're in the midst of a misbehaving pup or cat, there are obedience training schools and demonstrations. There were off leash training demonstrations, guide dog etiquette from Guide Dogs of Hawaii, obedience held by Obedience Training Club. There were cat demonstrations in discussion of breeds, and a cat show. For bird lovers, caring for Parrots and Hookbills demos were present. What's also held yearly is seeing a variety of breeds that partake on the Hawaiian Kennel Club's Annual Puppy and Junior Showmanship Match which are held in two rings and always falls on a Sunday. VCA held a free pet photo-booth and were even a free keychain with a photo of the pup.Shopping is near endless with a wide variety of pet products, crafters, and healthy treat vendors. I love going to the Hawaii Pet Expo because some of my favorite local vendors attend them yearly. I love getting new pet gears and treats for the furkid. Among my favorite vendors I saw this year is Furst Love, which have the most beautiful bow ties for both girls and boy dogs of all size. Hawaii Doggy Bakery had a big booth filled with doggy treats, haku lei's, puppy gears, dog wines and beer flavors. They're my family's go to bakery for anything doggy cakes. We bought some beer food flavorings from them which the pup loves. Dog Mama with her brigade of helpers had a booth filled with natural doggy treats which our picky treat eater enjoys. Certain vendors have treats for sampling before buying them along with an accompanied pamphlet of the food contents. Hawaiian Humane Society was giving out 2017 pet calendars with every purchase.Be prepared for the first day crowds, attending both days is fun if you plan on participating or watching any of the demonstrations, shows and contest. I recommend bringing cash for parking and for some of the normal vendors that sell human snacks and food. The Blaisdell snack bar only accepts cash. A row for anything non pet related is dedicated that offer services, snacks, airline perks and vacation rentals. The event is clean and everyone was respectful in picking up any accidents. I highly recommend the expo for all humans, pets and animal lovers alike.
