The course has improved dramatically. Amazing!
Flooded parking lot...
View of driving range from clubhouse.
View from clubhouse. 1st hole. One of the better holes, tee off is way off to the left of photo. Grass on green was way too long though.

Not bad for the price, the layout is weird, but honestly not a bad place to play. Some of these reviews that are negative, I mean what did you expect? Turtle Bay?

If playing the worst kept golf course on the island is on your bucket list, book a tee time here. We had a group that played here for years over a decade ago and it was okay. I played here with a friend last weekend and was shocked first by the green fees, then by the fact that the "fairways" were either packed dirt or overgrown weeds. The "greens" are riddled with clover and weeds, so putting is a guessing game. Hint: hit it harder than you think.

I've been playing rounds at HCC for about 25 years; and I use to work here while in grad school. Over the years, the course has gotten progressively more run down. It was never a gem or an elite course as long as I've been coming here. But at least back in the day, there was some pride of ownership, and grass covered the majority of fairways.Today, the course clearly reflects decades of neglect. Most fairways in summer are primarily dirt or brown grass. Most bunkers have been replaced by grass in lieu of performing the costly upkeep. And cart paths require a 4-wheel drive vehicle (exaggerating) due to all the pot holes and natural wear and tear. Heck, you will be surprised at how many balls you lose in the fairway due to general lack of upkeep.Despite all that, I still love HCC for several reasons. It's a shorter course which works for guys like me. It's generally not busy (for obvious reasons) so tee times aren't hard to come by; and there's very little delay in teeing off. And green fees are reasonable. It's just a laid back, ghetto course that still offers a fun round at a reasonable price.

The guy at the front desk wouldn't allow me and my sons to rent the golf cart saying they had to be 18 years old. I told him my son is 16 with a drivers permit. He asked if I wanted to walk. He was not very nice or accommodating. My boys and I walked away and had to find something else to do that day since Hawai'i Country Club does not support Dads taking their sons golfing. His matter of fact attitude was the worst part about it. I will never return to this course as long as that guy works there.

pre-covid review:I didn't know this place existed until I got invited to a party here. I imagine it would be difficult to find if you are not from this side of the island. The party room is kind of dated, but away from everything and everywhere with lots of parking. There was space for people to hangout outside, and also a covered patio area just outside of the hall. They have a huge kitchen, with helpers and was nice about giving us time to clean up. This was a great alternate space since my niece needed somewhere to make a party at the last minute. The party turned out perfect, and the workers were so accommodating.

The course has improved tremendously. The greens a little but no worm poo now. The fairways are not so bare in places and not so overgrown in others. The fairways had the most room for improvement and it has. The cart paths are bad but it is what it is and golf is not played off of the paths. What disturbed me was the huge Trump banner and the Trump preaching by one of the staff who insisted that the whole staff there and the golfers are all big Trump supporters. A bold statement considering that my friends and I are not. One thing I learned and never did in my business that I had was discuss politics and religion. It was a big turnoff listening to the preaching. While my rating of the course itself goes way up the preaching nullifies the improvement.

This is not a resort or typical country club.... It's a golf course in the country. It's quiet, has amazing views and isn't expensive. The five stars are for location and experience. Course is dry and not well kept. People are friendly and they have food and drinks as well.Aloha!

If you're looking forward to breaking your clubs, breaking your wrist, breaking your wallet... this is the course to go to! Exhaust ALL options on the island before golfing at this SWINE FACTORY!! Matter of fact, NEVER COME HERE TO GOLF! For the food & luau, yes For golf, FAT NEGATIVE
