Yelp reports this business is closed but I was there on Friday, October 20, 2023 and they are open! Out of all the Filipino eateries I've visited in town, this one stands out as the best. Being selective about Filipino dishes, I always look for the authentic flavors I grew up with and if it doesn't match my childhood memories, it just won't do. My favorites here are the pinakbet, squid adobo, balatong, and bangus. Now, parking can be a challenge we're talking about Chinatown here. But there are several public lots nearby. What I particularly appreciate is their cleanliness, which noticeably outshines other stalls in the food court. The warm and welcoming owners, are a friendly husband and wife duo.As for pricing, it's quite reasonable. A 2-choice plate lunch is priced at $10. But do note, if you opt for a meat or fish dish, it bumps up the cost to $12.00. They also offer dishes to purchase ala carte. This is perfect for people like me who can't just pick two.

I like going to the Maunakea Marketplace to get my fix of Filipino food but I don't usually go to H & J Cafe because I peruse all of the different stalls before I purchase to see what looks the best. Well, today the food at H & J looked the best to me. The food here is good and I do recommend it but just understand that the flavors are on the weaker side. I only order take out and I usually add more flavorings to the food because it usually needs it. Just a little dash of patis sometimes does a world of good.

One of many small vendors in Maunakea (Chinatown) but easy to find. Great price, friendly service and tasty food. So many different choices of food items. Will be back.

The longanisa is what caught my eye here, other vendors here do not have it,and a dollar a piece is greatThey also have raboon(bamboo shoots),dinigding, chicken long rice, pork and bangus sinigang, dinakdakan and many other delicious dishes. My favorites are the beef soup(lauya),chicken papaya, pinapaitan, squash, and fried fish.Today I ordered pork guisantes with two pieces of longanista. All meals come with two scoops rice or pancit ,one choice $5.00 or $7.00 for two. They only have one server and if there is a line she is fast and friendly. You can order any kind of soup (at no charge) served in a cup to wash your meal down.If you're hungry for great longanista this is the only place at the Food Court I have found it.

I eat anything anywhere! (Except vegetables) i can in a small market, food truck all the way to a fancy dinner!I'll be honest, I came to try Nancy's kitchen but they had sold out on almost everything and i was already inside the market place so decided to try a different place.Right across Nancy's was H&J Cafe and they had almost everything... Hmm.. Suspicious...Anyways decided to try their beef soup and it was just "ok" nothing wow and i think Nancy's is way better.Looks like they use a different kind of meat?Service and prices are good though! Overall i may not try it again, i may just stick to Nancy's kitchen next time.

So good!! We ate here the other day and I had the whole fried pompano fish with rice veggies and a side of sour soup. My coworker had some pink colored pork that was visually weird but tasted great! My other coworker had the eggplant fried egg thing and it was all delicious. This is one of those stalls alongside a bunch of other stalls in the market.

Many local Filipinos are often met with disappointment when going to restaurants and eateries that specialize in Filipino cuisine. My food adventure continues exploring Filipino Cuisine. H&J Cafe Filipino and local food is a family run business with Uncle (no relation) cooking it up and Aunty serving up the orders and telling everyone how beautiful they look!H&J offers a variety of Filipino entrees all made fresh. I was unclear about the local food but I'm OK with that; instead I needed to focus the task! My selection was the pinakbit or pinakbet. The entree is a melody of summertime vegetables , pork and the unique and familiar fragrance of bogoong. For some Filipinos, the sauce isn't much of a problem but the smell and taste can be a bit overwhelming for others. I was impressed with the selections of vegetables and there was the noticeable fragrance of the brown bogoong. (Some cooks and chefs prefer to use the pink bogoong which is made from shrimp versus the brown bogoong is made with fish.)What is nice about this entree is that the vegetables were not overcooked, The bits of okra are firm that I actually enjoyed it and I'm not a big fan of okra! Included with your meal choice are two scoops of white rice. Brown rice does not match well with pinakbet. Nestor's prices are comparable with the other eateries in the vicinity. The overall menu selections are understated which is friendly on the wallet! However, the selections showcase what Filipino comfort food is all about!. I will be coming back to try more from their menu selections and to get more compliments on how beautiful I look!

The owners are always nice. They'd cook fresh torta for us when they've ran out. Delicious, homestyle Filipino food. It is always our must visit when we go to Oahu & to surprise them with Trader Joe treats for their smiles & hospitality. I call them my Maunakea family even though they probably do not remember me
