Gen Korean BBQ House

I went here for dinner with my boyfriend and daughter last night. Arrived at 7 pm which there were still available seating. This was a fun experience because it was our first time there. I got a strawberry lemonade to drink. They have Coke products here a major plus. We got the basic dinner which comes with unlimited meats. My boyfriend decided to get the calamari rings, not pictured but delicious. Also got the kimchi fried rice. I don't recommend this as it was like eating soggy rice. It wasn't good but everything else was. My boyfriend had a soju fish bowl. I forgot the flavor but it was good. Service was pretty good here. I definitely like this location. Highly recommend.

Other than a host stating that they texted me and never did, this place was rocking on a week day! Packed house with tons of big parties and people out celebrating. Service here is better than the other Gen's I've been to. They are quick, easygoing and get you everything that you need in a timely manner. Grill changed, empty plates grabbed.No long waits for additional food and it's AYCE! KFC fried chicken pupu, and Mandu was also good.Wished I got his name, but tall bradda with the curly hair was killing it.

We dined at the Kapolei location a couple times and I hate to say, I was not thrilled at all during both visits. First of all, the wait times were ridiculously long. Of course we waited the first visit because we wanted to experience firsthand what the hype is all about. Second time I made my party endure the wait time because I was craving the side dishes that only Gen serves. When we finally get seated, server took more than 10 minutes to greet us. If that wasn't bad, server didn't ask if we wanted any water. For the price we pay, I figure we could at least get water & straws right away. Throughout our dinner, server never came back to check on us too often. We also got the wrong orders. The table next to us also received wrong orders cause we asked if we had each other's orders. But nope, the orders were just all around wrong.I know how busy the place can get but there were a lot of staff members congregating in an area talking stories. Wouldn't it make sense that they serve customers instead? On a good note, I did have a better experience at the Ala Moana and Pearlridge locations.

This was our first time at this Gen. It was a Saturday night, so we assumed it was gonna be busy. We checked in online, and what was really neat was that we could put in an order of 4 items ahead of time. The new Gen is smaller than the other Gen's and of course right now it's new, clean, and not sticky. LOL. Anyway, our waitress was really great. She was on point with the orders and the food came out quickly. She took care and our party really appreciated her. Our kiddos were getting restless and were done eating, so they started entertaining themselves, and what was cool was one of the other workers played ish & rock paper scissors with them. He didn't complain and the kids really had fun. We like that the workers were very friendly.

We love Gen! The banchan, meats and cooked items are consistent with Gen's restaurant all over the mainland. The service in the Kapolei location was outstanding. We had a large party and they refilled our waters promptly and brought out meats and banchan in a timely manner after ordering. This location is busy so be prepared to wait on the weekends. There is a QR code to scan when you get to the front doors to get yourself on the waitlist. Unfortunately, Yelp or their website doesn't have a direct link to get on the waitlist so you'll have to get to the restaurant to scan the code.

The food is great. Went for lunch. It was a good deal for lunch. Our waitress was awesome. She was helpful with the menu. But next time I will tell them not to seat me by the front door. Every time the door opens the fan blows and everything on the table blows and it's kind of cold. Other than that it was good. The whole staff is awesome.

Our service was quick and steady when ordering our items. Some were mixed up with the other half of our large party. A dun expensive cook yourself meal . Really this is a cool place to eat. It's hot to sit near the grill but my son did most of the cooking for us on our side of the table. So many selections. All the marinades meats. It was a wonderful fun feast. The margarita was delicious though I need two more to get more tequila. For $16 it is a pass for me on our next trip.

Gen has and continues to be a solid dinner choice no matter where I go. I'm impressed how consistent their quality and service is despite being in a whole different state! Our server was extremely quick, friendly and efficient taking and delivering order after order. One thing that seemed to lack slightly was the bussing of empty plates from the table - we definitely amassed an impressively tall pile a couple times over the course of dinner.As mentioned above, the quality of meat/food is super consistent with other Gen locations we've dined at in the past. Our favorites continue to include the Hawaiian steak, galbi and finger ribs. We've also added several new favorites recently which include the honey soy beef belly and plain beef belly which have replaced our usual repertoire of brisket. Also from their new menu, be sure to try the cheese katsu and hotteok dessert! The cheese katsu is always fresh/hot/crispy in a way that I would be happy to have received had I ordered it as an Ala carte entree elsewhere. The place itself seemed pretty on par with other gen locations in cleanliness and decor. The wait was a bit long 1.5 hours for an initial arrival at 4:30pm but not unexpected.

Went and ate tonight with my coworkers. We're all industry workers so to say the service was awesome is an understatement. From the GM Rachel getting us in and setting us up to our server Jesse taking care and our massive orders. Couldn't ask for more. Now I have a food coma and thank god I live right across the street
