If you didnt know this place is open to the public. It is $14 AYCE and the food is pretty good. They have a salad bar, dessert bar, a hot foot station that changes daily, a pasta station that has the same pasta everyday, a sandwich station, a soup station with two soups daily, a vegetarian station, a fried food station that has hamburgers and grilled cheese sandwhiches and saw corndogs once. The only thing they dont have is french fries - a worker told me their fryer is broken. They also have ice cream and a soda / drink station. I think if I ate here every day i would gain my Freshman 15 all over again.

For a college student of UHM, you've either got the option of dining at Hale Aloha or Gateway when you're near the residence halls. Either option is fine in the way they provide a range of different plates with their buffet style serving.Gateway Cafe is pretty good for dorm food. I enjoy the smoothies they give out in the mornings, as well as the attempts to spice things up here and there with the food. The staff is also wonderful. The guy who makes the omelets in the morning is super funny and nice; the pink hair lady who scans the students in always greets you so cheerfully, and all the other workers who serve the food have such good spirit. They truly enjoy just trying to give the best to the students and it's clear to see. The food always ranges depending on the day/night, but what I'm always grateful for are the build your own sandwiches, the tater tots, the omelet bar, the vitamin xxx water in the soda machines, and just the overall setting of the cafe. Some students may say otherwise, but you just gotta learn to appreciate what's there sometimes yknow. Keep doing what you're doing gateway :)

Food is average and may seem overpriced but it is all-you-can-eat. I like this sustainable eatery. Pay 50 cents extra for a compostable takeout box, utensils, and cup. Some people fill it up in the morning when they have bacon and share it out side.I only eat here for lunch or brunch (holidays) but since they've put in ice cream last year it's been even better. Fruits are generally good and sweet. They are sourced locally so if weather has been bad the veggies and fruits aren't good. Some favorites of everybody that they always have are the cheesburger, pizzas, grilled cheese sandwich. Sometimes they have my favorites like the kalua pork quesedilla, clam chowder, brocolli cheddar soup, and vegetarian dishes like the grilled vegetable burrito and wraps. Some good desserts I like are the Pecan Pie, fresh fruits, Jello, their earth day dirt worms, and of course the various ice cream (w/ cone). Some things I like that others don't is the smores quesedilla, asian pear salad, and the banana peanut butter sandwhich. Except for the desserts I liked above, most of the desserts are bland and lake taste.Tip: If you don't have a meal plan get the frequent eating card. 5 meals and 6th one is free.

I'm a student at UHM and I live in Gateway Building so it's quite convenient for me to just take the elevator down to the cafe. Sometimes the food is pretty good, other times I wonder why I didn't just stay in my room and eat packaged ramen.

All you can eat. Different food everyday but after a while it gets old. Also, the food sounds much more appetizing than it actually tastes. Compared to other places on campus, at least there is a salad bar and fresh fruit if you want to eat healthy.
