There are better bakeries in Oahu like Leonards, Moonstruck, Papa'a Palaoa Bakery, hort & Sweet Bakery & Cafe, Arise Bakery, Bananarama Bakery, Donna's Cookies, Rainbow Moon. Since my papa is diabetic, I always like a pastry option that is friendly for sugar averse folks. There is also a place right around the corner from them that I love - liliha bakery. I saved the best for last. OF course, this shows that I am a bakery fan and go to many. In other words, I am a repeat customer.

Franceddie's bakery is located near Kuhio Park Terrace and Kokua Kalihi Valley. It is a small quaint bakery in a small strip of other shops. Franceddie's specializes in Samoan desserts and pastries. I am not familiar with Samoan desserts or Samoan food in general so I decided to go and give Franceddie's bakery a try. This is a small bakery. You enter through a screen door and are greeted by a front display of pastries. They also have some traditional Samoan dresses for sale hanging in the window. When I went in around 8:45 AM they had Panipopo, cinnamon loaf bread, raisin bread, pineapple pie with merengue, hamburger and turkey tail pies, paifala, and panikeke (similar to Okinawan andagi and American donut holes). I wanted to try them all! I decided to get the cinnamon loaf bread for my son and the hamburger pie for myself. The lady at the counter recommended the hamburger pie so I decided to give it a try. The hamburger pie was flavorful. It was very similar to a chicken pot pie. My son loved the cinnamon loaf bread as well. I'll definitely be back to try more of their baked goods.

Simple bakery bliss. You walk in and are greeted like family as they tell you about the different fillings in their pies. They had turkey and hamburger left so we got a hamburger. Also got some banana bread and panipopo. If you're looking for the comforts of simple home baking then this is a great gem and you'll leave feeling like you just visited family.

Here's the thing. I...am not a chef. I can, however, see food plated in my minds eye. When I saw Franceddie's meat pot pie...I knew exactly what I was going to do. Let me give you the straight dope, this is no Patisserie La Palme D'Or...it's not Elvin's...it's not even close to Bread House. It's a about a hundred miles away from a Zippy's (in appearance). It is a Samoan bakery. But, I am a practical man. I see beauty in everything. Waipahu is a mess. The rail construction upheaval has momentarily (smh) destroyed Farrington Highway. I drove in a circle following the listing on the Yelp map which took me to Tanioka's Seafood and Catering, I am not easily dissuaded. It's one of my few redeeming qualities.I called...Franceddie answered. We met. She seems so very young. I bought three pies and six panipopo (a gift for a Samoan friend and his family)...we talked about the panipopo and how it would be served. Franceddie had never met a southern man. My entire purchase was just under $15. Franceddie has a fan. Waipahu...not so much. They are located just past the Bank of Hawaii in a strip mall. The shop is nondescript...it's dank. The steak (that's not hamburger!) pot pie was an amazing base. The soup was easy (butter, flour, milk, chicken bullion, black pepper and a little salt. Carrots, peas, and taters boiled separate, then added...Tabasco optional). Everyone in my home...thinks I'm a chef.

Late post.. but we came here on 8/26 just before we left to return home to the mainland. We had been meaning to stop over to try this place during our stay and kept missing the turn. Warning... there are lots of construction going on so just beware. if you miss it, your going to need to do a couple of u-turns. Anyhow, the owner of the baker was very nice, the meat pies and baked goods just came out of the oven so the bakery was smelling fantastic!! We bought, 2-ground beef, 2-turkey tail. We didnt eat the pies until we got to the airport. The crust was wonderful, just the right flakiness. It didnt fall apart when you bit into it, so it was a perfect on the run food. The beef had good flavor. My husband at the turkey tail pie and said it was good. Cant wait to try the other items when we return!

I've never been in the store, but family members get bread from here sometimes. not bad for a starter bakery, but they can improve on the taste of their pies and bread.
