Fat Poi does catering and it's just as good as that place in Waiahole. Because it was catering, we got to try more things than are on the daily Food Truck Menu.Their Kalua Pork is all the things--salty, smoky, juicy, tender, shredded meaty goodness.Their Squid Luau is perfect--the right balance of savory, mildly coconutty, melty luau leaves with bits of chewy squid. The Lomi Salmon has a nice bite from the red and green onions, the freshness from the tomatoes, and that briny saltiness. The Mac-Potato Salad was creamy and chunky, with a little bit of carrot and onion for freshness. The Lau Lau was loving assembled. Each foil packet was lined with a small piece of Ti leaf for flavor. The inside of the Lau Lau contained a piece of sweet potato, a chuck of salted pork, and a small piece of fat to keep everything succulent. More places should put sweet potatoes in their Lau Lau--I'm a fan.The catering buffet also had Chicken Long Rice which looked great with thick rice noodles and lots of chicken and green onions, but I skipped it because I didn't want to pour soup on my plate. I also skipped the white rice and fresh green salad.Another reason to seek out the Fat Poi truck is they do poke bowls and you can get combos to try more things. If you are looking for Hawaiian food, don't hesitate to order from Fat Poi, their food is winnahs!

During a break from the Polynesian Cultural Center, we stopped by the Fat Poi food truck. It was one, if not the cheapest, option out of the available food trucks and restaurants available. I got an Hawaiian Food with Kalua Pig and Squid Luau as my two choices. It was ready in about 10 minutes. The two main meets were decent and imo were just nicely shredded meat to pair with rice and some diced tomatoes that made for a quick meal. The server was very positive and gracious and there was table seating available as part of the center.Worth a try! But nothing to particularly write home about.

Food (3/5): Ordered the Poke Combo Hawaiian style with pork. Meanwhile others in my group ordered the squid. The Poke was too salty and the pork was also very salty and somewhat dry. It would've been a nice touch to have vegetables in the dish.Service (4/5): Food came out moderately fast at around 8 minutes. You pick up your food at the truck and bring it to a table. The truck seemed a bit understaffed with there only being one person taking orders and making food.Ambiance (4/5): Food truck right outside the Polynesian cultural center. A good amount of seating with umbrellas and wooden covers.

Amazing poke. And the squid luau is a must try if you are visiting (dont be scared: it's delicious), because I imagine it's hard to find anywhere besides Polynesia.I tried the hawaiian poke and spicy poke. Both amazing, best I ever had. I also had the squid luau but will get to that in a second (tldr: also amaaaaazing)The spicy poke is kind of the more modern style poke with all the fixings and a creamy sauce packed with flavor. It was delicious. FYI.Fat poi is also now serving out of a restaurant in Kailua called Shakas(formerly Bob's). This is where I tried them, but the menu is the same as their food truck outside the Polynesian cultural center. The Hawaiian poke is simple and clean, and really lets the fresh fish be the star. Also amazing. It was interesting to try the juxtaposition of the modern and traditional preparations of poke back to back, and to see the merits of both. They were both fantastic in their own ways. Now, I was reluctant, but being from the mainland, I had to at least try the squid luau because when else would I get a chance to eat it. To be honest the ingredients/description sounded kind of funky: taro leaves, octopus and coconut milk all stewed together. It was soooo good. It's the savory and richness of earthy flavors in the taro, then the ocean and salt flavors of the squid which is cooked to tender perfection. The coconut milk, is just a hint really, something that adds complexity and ties everything together and balances out the heavy umami of the taro and octopus saltiness with a hint of sweetness. It was like nothing I've ever had before really and it kind of still lingers with me what an interesting dish it is. Just such a simple, but complex and interesting mixture of flavors going on. I will say too, another customer came in while I was there that said he was from the mainland but had lived in Hawaii and was a self-described squid luau connoisseur. He raved about fat poi's squid luau and said it was the best he ever had.

As a local here the poke was very good, fresh and was one of my favorite poke spots in Kahuku a couple of months ago. But the past 2 recent times I went, the poke has been very chewy, hard texture and doesn't taste fresh (more like frozen). Its unfortunate and I hope the consistency of the fish goes back to being more fresh.

Got the Hawaiian poke bowl, fish was very fresh, nice spice to it. (Only $12) My son got the Kalua pig bowl (on special for $10) said it was his favorite of the trip so far. Service was fast, super good aloha vibe. Anytime I can eat outside under and umbrella makes me happy.

The Hawaiian style poke was EXCELLENT! I don't usually stop mid meal to review food on Yelp but people should definitely try this place. Great flavor from the fish, a nice touch of hot sauce, a little sweetness, and good portion size for the price too. Yum

Heard about these guys about a week ago. Wife and I went out north so we stopped on our way back. The located in the parking lot of waikane church with lots of parking. Wife and I tried the fat poi plate, the only thing was the was out of lau lau. But the food is tasty and made just right. The Kalua wasn't salty like some people make it, the squid luau was very good. Try um out and support local!
