Hmmm just noticed this owl statue outside. Is it to deter cat or birds? I guess it doesn't work with this bird!

Eastern Paradise restaurant just closed on 12/29/24 after 47 years of business. As I was waiting to order, the owner nephew was waiting to say hello to his Uncle on their last day of business. It was busy & he wasn't able to dine in since his friend couldn't wait too long for the food. Luckily the Uncle took my order and asked if I live near by and I said no and said with my two orders, I can wait 15 minute vs the hour that the lady worker told me earlier not knowing what I wanted. I think because I just ordered the jajangmyun (black bean noodles) and the Tansuyuk (sweet and sour pork). In the past I wanted to try here but didn't get to, but I'm glad I did on their last day. I felt bad since the nephew said he used to lived at the restaurant and sleep here as a baby, maybe because of his mom worked here? He's now a fine young man and I felt embarrassed that I haven't tried Eastern Paradise Restaurant yet! I figured to get the items they are known for. I hardly ordered this dish but I do like Northern Chinese food. I shared the food with my mom and she didn't know what black sauce noodles was made of. At her age, she is very picky, but she said she really liked it! I was pleasantly surprised and I told her it's their last day and that I almost wasn't able to wait for the food. I liked the deep fried pork with the sweet and sour sauce on the side! It was light and sweet which made the dish! I'm happy the owners can finally rest and enjoy retirement now! Sad to learn many restaurants are closing this year. Their food was tasty and I'm glad I finally was able to try their food but I wished I did earlier during their 47 years! Thank you for accommodating me and for giving me kimchee! Best wishes!

My favorite spot to get some jjajangmyeon. It's so sad that they are closing on the 29th.

One of our office's favorite places for lunch! Today we tried string beans with long rice and ground pork, sweet and sour pork, deep fried noodles with vegetables and seafood, and the only pic I remembered to take because the boss was "hangry" was the sizzling rice soup:). The service is the best for this nice Chinese restaurant!!!

When there is a will, there is a way! After Korean class with the kids on a Saturday, a reward for dragging them to class is in the morning is some black bean noodles and sweet sour pork for lunch. We found parking challenging in the back of building since it was full but managed to find pay to park lot near Chez Kenzie Bar and grill. It was less than a 5 minute walk from there. You can also look for street parking. Eastern Paradise owners are friendly and it is nice to see a family business running for so long. Kids were happy with both dishes. We polished it all. One of my top three black bean noodle places on island. Rain or shine, with kdrama in mind, you will also leave eastern paradise full.

Jjajangmyeon anyone? Well, this is the place to go - according to my mother-in-law - and she's absolutely correct! The noodles were cooked perfectly and mixed with the black bean sauce equals yummy! We also ordered salt and pepper pork, chicken fried rice and eggplant and pork. All were really tasty. The owners are really nice. They gave us extra rice for our leftovers and let us know other dishes that people order, so we get to try new things next time.Parking is free before 5 pm in the parking lot (this is according to the owners).

This is quaint restaurant that has a mom and pop feel upon entering their doors. There are a few booths along the wall and several tables in the center of the room. It was my first time eating here, although my husband had been many, many years prior. We ordered the black bean noodles/jajangmyeon and sweet and sour pork/tangsiyuk. Both were very flavorful. I don't like most sweet and sour flavored sauces, as I usually feel they're overly sweet or sour. This one was perfect for my tastebuds! I almost wished we ordered a second plate but we just didn't have any room left. The serving size of the noodles is comparable to that you'd get in a fresh ramen bowl (not the instant ones). I'd like to say my appetite is pretty healthy but I was unable to finish my bowl, so I took the rest home (as did my hubby). The lady who served us is likely one of the owners. She was kind and attentive. I do think the water we received tasted weird (probably from tap) but I didn't want to order a $3 soda can so I just dealt with it. It also came in a short cup -- I drink a lot while I eat and I wished they were larger cups so that they wouldn't have to come refill so often. Overall, it was an enjoyable meal.

This is the place to go for Jjajangmyeon, which is a Chinese-Korean dish with Noodles with black bean sauce and usually has pork and vegetables. Located on the corner of Keeaumoku St. and King St. The parking lot is located behind the building on Keeaumoku St. Very friendly and attentive owners and staff. We also had the pork fried rice, hot spicy garlic chicken, and the braised eggplant with pork. All were very delicious. They have modest supply of alcohol options as well.Happy eating, and Aloooooooooha
