I saw the Daizu Tei stand at the KCC farmers market and instantly wanted mochi. The purchase minimum was 2 mochis. The mochis are filled with fruit.I tried the persimmon and mango mochis. The mochi itself was so soft on the outside and you can taste how fresh and sweet the fruit were!

My girlfriend bought these mochi delights and the mochi was so soft and yummy. The fruit inside was so over right slightly but still very good. It was the mango one. The strawberry was perfectly sweetened and deliciousness.

Coming to the KCC farmer's market in early February, I saw this stand, stopping to read the menu. Figuring that I'd better see what else was at the market before deciding what to try. My mental bookmark brought me here especially after seeing that word "pineapple".On my return, I tried to order a pineapple mochi... sold out. So I decide to the try the peach one... sold out. After a shallow sigh, I decided to get a pack of six mochi pieces, two of three different flavors to share with my travel companion. After getting my box, I found a spot in a patch of grass and tried the strawberry chocolate mochi (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=4qb-romFri8as8FdRCZA3Q&userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q); the 1st thing that struck me was how it had a subtle sweetness which matched well with the good-sized strawberry in the center. The chocolate was not that sweet either. Later that day, I tried the mango w/white beans mochi (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=x_aQQ-aej3ter0Phd1Ggcw&userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q)j, the special for that day, which was my favorite; the mango texture and flavor made this interesting and paired well with the white bean paste. I saved the least interesting flavor, the strawberry mochi (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=81Xx0j51kPM7-mjj56fc5A&userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q) for last. Despite eating it a couple days later, the mochi outer shell was only slightly hard while most of it remained soft and pillowy. I probably should have ordered with this one of the bean paste to make it more interesting.I am glad to have tried this as it is certainly more subtle and likely healthier than the mochi shop that I tried off of King Street last year. Since it likely won't be until next year till I'll get a chance to try this again, I'll just hope, if they are at KCC, that they have the pineapple or peach ones available.

Delicious mochi! I loved the texture and freshness of the mochi. Lots of variety to choose from. I got the Strawberry with Azuki beans, Strawberry with Green tea, Mango, strawberry chocolate. It was approximately $5.50 each. They are cash only!!! My favorite flavor was definitely the mango one.

This was the first stall that we stopped at at the KCC Farmers Market. The line was pretty long but it was fast moving. We got a box of 4 mochis which to my surprise was ~$20. But I get why... They are pretty big and they are filled with fruits (ours has strawberry, peach, mango). The juicy fruit was enchased in this delicate soft and chewy mochi.

If I'm not mistaken, I'm pretty sure the word "Daizu" means soybean in Japanese so when I noticed the announcement for this vendor at the Saturday Kaka'ako Farmers Market I excitedly envisioned getting fresh silky tofu or even soybean milk. However, when we got to the Farmers Market, I looked for a food stall featuring soybean products but didn't readily see Daizu Tei UNTIL I saw a crowd of people in line at a stall advertising Premium Strawberry Mochi. I walked around the line to get a better view and that's when I realized that this food stall was indeed the vendor that I was looking for!I recently saw some posts from fellow Yelpers Terry K, Jo Y and Therese H from their Kaiser PTSA Farmers Market adventures where their purchases of fresh fruit-filled (strawberry, peach or mango) mochi were simply delectable and mouthwatering but I didn't know the name of the vendor where they got those treats from. Turns out, Daizu Tei Hawai'i appears at various Farmers Markets on the island really does feature various soybean products such as silky tofu, black sesame or edamame tofu, black nattō and Japanese and Korean miso. However, they have the distinction of making fresh fruit-filled mochi which, if my taste buds have some memory, would give the Big Island's Two Ladies Kitchen a run for their money. Well, at least I won't have to travel to the Big Island during this pandemic to get these treats.By the time our turn in line came up, a lot of their mochi products were sold out but we still came away with 2 pieces each of fresh peach wedges and whole strawberries with chocolate mochi. The woman who took our order was friendly and charmingly guided us through their menu. She proclaimed "Everything is made from scratch" and though I was looking at trying their black sesame seed tofu, the sweet rice mochi dessert snacks pulled harder on my taste buds. As there was a line of people behind us, I just bought the fruit-filled mochi and as her young helper (I'm assuming daughter) helped to pack our goodies, the woman reminded us that her mochi is freshly made, doesn't contain preservatives and should be eaten or refrigerated as soon as possible. We rushed home and cut into our mochi to savor the sweet Summer ripe fruit and the soft chewy mochi while toasting with flutes filled with 2006 Dom Perignon Rosé Lenny Kravitz because I've been saving this bottle of bubbly to celebrate this milestone birth month. We're looking forward to returning to Daizu Tei soon!

Fruit-filled mochi at the Kaka'ako Farmer's Market!I got a great tip from Lora C. She said that there would be a new vendor this Saturday morning! She didn't give me the name of the company, but I found them because this booth (Daizu-Tei) had the longest line!We all waited patiently in the sunshine. It was about 8:30am and most of the flavors were sold out. I got one of each of what was left:Strawberry mochi Strawberry mochi with beansStrawberry mochi with chocolate The strawberries were fresh, firm, and tart. I liked the chocolate one the best because it had the most combinations of flavor!I was told upon purchase that no preservatives are used, so eat it right away - that's perfect because I had brought some chopsticks! I stood in the shade of the parking structure and gobbled the three strawberry mochis down!Maybe I will go to the Mililani Farmer's Market tomorrow morning (Sunday) and aim for the peach and pineapple mochi!!! Yum!!!

I LOVE ichigo daifuku! Picked up half a dozen at the Kaka'ako Farmers Market. Such a perfect, light treat for any day. The mochi had perfect texture and it wasn't too sweet. I enjoy mine with azuki beans but they also have an option without beans for those who prefer without. Try them out at your next Farmer's market visit! :)
