Da Cantina

This is a really great local find in the middle of a neighborhood. Good spot to have some tacos and watch sports. The bar seats were all taken by locals from the area. First time driving through this part of Kalihi. Reminded me of where I used to live in Waipahu.

Came in on a Taco Tuesday and also wanted to try the Guava Lava Cider from Paradise Cider. Located next to Alejandro's Mexican Food, in Kalihi Valley. Tuesdays is $0.50 off tacos. Was a little surprised by the place. If you've been to Alejandro's Mexican Food, this place is updated with A/C and TVs. I was the only one in the bar when I arrived, Adam was the bartender. I was a little disappointed that they didn't have the Guava Cider that I wanted to try, but they did have the Pineapple Cider and went with that. Also ordered 2 ground beef tacos and 2 carnita tacos and of course their spicy hot sauce. The pineapple cider was pretty good and I actually ordered another. The tacos, delish as always. Adam was really nice. Isaac is the other bartender who actually opens and closes the bar on a daily. Place is clean and modern and they have WiFi. I noticed that a lot of customers went over to Alejandro's first to order then came to Da Cantina to order drinks. You can order your food there and they bring it over. Lots of drink choices, beer, margaritas, etc. Paradise Cider only offers 1 of their ciders at a time. Hoping to try another flavor next time I go. Parking is the only downfall for this location. If you come at the right time there are a few parking spots out front and some street parking. Isaac said they are planning to get the parking situation a little better in the near future. He is also looking at partnering with Lyft for people who don't want to drive.And if you're into burritos, I recommend Wet Wednesday.

Alejandro's Mexican food has the best carnitas on the island! What could possibly make it any better? That's a hard act to follow...Hrm....how about if you could have a plate full of the same terrific carnitas tacos, with an ice cold beer or a margarita, along with flat screen televisions nearby to watch the game? That is exactly what Da Cantina offers! It's a sports bar right next door to Alejandro's Mexican food. You can order burritos or tacos from next door, and have them delivered to you in the Cantina, as you watch the game or chill out with friends while enjoying an adult beverage.There are a number of televisions that you can see from any seat, whether you are at the bar, or at one of the tables. They have a number of beers on tap, (definitely try the Dos Equis on tap, it's awesome! ) as well as a great variety of tequila and mezcal.My wife particularly enjoyed the local style li hing mui tequila. It's a must-try! They also serve bottled beer, Wine, & sangria.All of the staff are friendly, but if you happen to come in when Alejandro, the owner, is working at the bar, you'll very much enjoy his big smile and hospitable personality.TLDR; located back in the back of Kalihi Valley, but just off the Like Like Highway , this is the kind of spot that you wish was in your own neighborhood, a great place to have a beer and some terrific Mexican food, and watch the game with friends!

The seasoning is tasty and the meat is tender. I also like how they chop the meat so small. Don't forget - they're street-tacos sized! So really, you can try one or two of each taco. Great little hole in the wall, but parking is tough! There's a laundromat right next door. Carpooling is the best thing if you have a big party. There's about 2 tables of 8 and the bar for about 8 as well. They have 2-3 tv's. Country music videos played. It was a great atmosphere. Very small place, but their food is yummy! We started off with some Cadillac margaritas. They hit the spot. Pretty strong. Only 1 needed for a business lunch with the team. I ordered the carnitas bowl. No tortilla, just carnitas and veggies. Their carnitas had so much flavor. My favorite! My coworkers had the chicken quesadillas and they loved it as well. Cheesy and the meat was seasoned just right. Will need to come back to try other things. It's really good authentic mexican food that's hard to find on the island! Glad they are here...wish the parking was better though.

The mango margarita was the happy hour special and was very well blended. I also had a jalapeño amber beer, which was incredible. Great bartender with a great personality.

Hidden gem! Ono food, good selection of tequila and most importantly awesome service from Olivia. If you haven't been here yet, I highly suggest popping in.

Olivia is awesome! Favorite spot for tacos I've found on the island. They have a very friendly staff and the service is fast! My favorite are the Carne Asada tacos and the wet burrito

Adam makes THE BEST margaritas! And Alejandro's makes THE BEST carnitas! All the employees always make you feel like you've known them forever, so it makes you second guess whether you ACTUALLY know them or not.

The food taste great! I tried a beef taco, nachos beef, and beef burrito. All great. Authentic Mexican food, best I've had on the island. I will be back.
