Hanging out with local friends and searching for sisig. All the places we wanted to go were closed. Then, we stumbled on the Bolalohan BBQ and Grill. The place is an eclectic mix of decor; part Christmas, Chinese New Year and Easter all rolled together! It's like a Filipino food truck flew from the sky and crash landed in a Waipahu swap meet parking lot, then they just decided to make camp and set up a brick and mortar restaurant! The Lechon had thin, shatteringly crisp skin had a lacquered look that almost made me think it was Chinese Roast Duck! This is an actual fire roasted lechon. Not the deep fried kind. And the meat was tender, flavorful and moist. The BBQ Pork sticks were smokey, and sweet and you could see the Chinese influence as it tasted like Chinese Char Siu Roast Pork. The meals came with a beef soup, so rich and comforting. It just needed some saimin noodles or ramen to make it a meal!Staff was friendly and more than willing to explain and describe the various dishes available from the steam tables and on their menu.If you added some mac salad, you could call these plate lunches. But a few scoops of rice is all you need to round out the meal.Be daring and try the assortment of sauces and condiments at the table. There is no wrong way to eat Filipino food!I do have to admit, the place has the gritty third-world charm of BBQ shacks found all over the Philippines, but the food is so good you'll overlook that once you start eating! It reminded me of time I spent in the community outside Clark Air Force Base back in 1986. Back then, you could get a BBQ plate for around $1.75!VIDEO:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bmE2kuZHLaA

Been here before, my friend from Waipahu told me they have the best Huli Huli Chicken which he was right, They also serve Filipino food. Located in the old Arakawa store parking lot. Two whole chickens for $28- you will see my picture, they gave me a pan with sauce. If you're looking for some awesome chicken for parties or just to take home, please give this place a try . Aloha, Derek

I love this place. I've never been to the Philippines but I feel like I'm there when I'm here. The workers are super friendly ! They have all the delicacies thar my heart desires. My mom loves the ipon. She says their ipon is authentic. I don't drink alcohol but there are a lot of good pupus here for those occasions - kilawen kaldeng & baka. The worker ( young man ) said that the kilawen baka also has liver in it. He was so nice because he let us sample a piece of the baka skin. Yum ! This was my first time here & I am definitely coming back. It's great that I'll be im this area at least 3 times a month. So glad my mom discovered this place through a friend. They do not accept credit / debit payment. They only accept cash. Lots of free parking probably because it's a weekday.

Customer service is good! They are very friendly here!I'm Filipino, the flavors of the food here are perfect and so comforting! Very close to our families food. It isn't your fine dining ambiance it's more outdoorsy and if you go in for dine in it's more like your eating at your family's house. Lol there's tv and they just allow you to sit enjoy your food grab whatever drink and then pay afterwards. They have the tv on inside and ac. The bowls they use are like the ones you would probably have at your moms house or grandparents house. It's very home-like.

This is not your typical bulalo, I'm not actually quite sure if this is bulalo. If your craving Tagaytay bulalo this is not the place to get it. All bones, cartilage and hoof. No meat, no veggies, no bone marrow beef shank. After removing all the bones and cartilage from the container very minimal soup was included. For $12 including rice, it's not worth it.

This place is nostalgic for me. Walking up to the truck and if I close my eyes, the smell reminds me trips to the Philippines. I have absolutely loved everything I've ordered from here. I've only had 3 items. Its the bbq pork stick that keeps me coming back. The chicken insal is my 2nd favorite dish. The halohalo was as authentic as I remember. Delicious!

When I heard that there's a new Bulalo place in Waipahu I'm so excited to try it I love bulalo! it reminds me of my trip in Tagaytay back in the Philippines . I'm so disappointed and think this is the worst bulalo I've ever had. it's not what I'm expecting at all.

Not The Chosen OneSo heres the weird thing, I had a dream a few days ago that I had returned to this place after coming about a week ago and I gave it 2 stars. Fast forward today, Im in the area and Im thinking about going and giving it a shot again since I had it at 4 stars, but here I am thinking I dreamt I gave it 2 stars which would mean I am not going to like my 2nd visit and maybe not worth going back. But my curiousity sets in and I feel the need to confirm this premonition thru dream I have, so I decide to go, as I feel its "my destiny"Another trip to the darkside, (its literally dark there at night, miminal lighting in the vicinity) a quick stop here to see if they had the hamburger steak or pork belly skewers, 2 of the most raved about items so far but both were sadly not available. Didnt bother asking about the all day breakfast, which would been my 3rd choice, but not even a menu for the bbq sticks, I didnt bother.Same lady like last time, she looks at me no hi, no hello, no how may i help you, instead of making it more awkward i went ahead and greeted her instead. I felt bad for going there and not ordering anything, but they didnt have what I wanted, so I just got 2 bbq pork sticks again, this time they were in that large plastic container and questionable on how long they were sitting there, nevertheless, I paid, got my sticks and left. Opened the foil, tried the pork, and immediately noticed it was cold. Well what was I expecting for something that was in a plastic container and not even in a warmer. $5.00 for two cold pork sticks. Good flavor, just not worth coming back for imo. If you know its cold why not sell it cheaper?Im sorry Da Bolalohan, I tried. I tried to like you but this is where we must part ways. I feel like saying "YOU were supposed to be the Chosen One!" I really hope they can improve though. Happy Holidays and may the skewer be with you.
