Finally got to try this new spot, and I'm so happy I did! The food was great, you can tell it's not just thrown together. Hence the prices. We will continue to see rising restaurants prices as costs of goods are increasing. But I don't think that the portions were unfair. I had a torta and a Gordita, I only wish they would have added some refried beans and more sauce so the items would be a little more juicy. Horchata was awesome, We had 2! Definitely will be returning with more people so I can get through the menu. Ambience was also great, beautiful inside and outside, if you want to sit outside you can. It's a great location I hope they get a lot of support from the community.

Hola amigos. Heard about this new Mexican place next to my hairdresser. Not an expert on Mexican food but love to eat it.Ordered the two carnitas taco plate with beans and rice. Just a heads up. It's more street tacos with the soft shells and not the crunchy shells that you're used to. Love it comes with cilantro, some onions and green salsa in a small container. Can't go wrong with rice and beans. Also had the chimichanga with beef steak. There was some rice and other things in a nice crunchy outside. It was also fresh and hot and came only with a larger container of green salsa. Loved the crunch when bitting into it. Very moist but not a dripping mess. It does not come with rice and beans. You would have to make it a side order. Atmosphere is homie with a Mexican flare. Spanish music and decorations. The lady at the cashier was very patient with my order since it was my first time there. Tables and floor were clean and seating was indoors and cool by air conditioning. Pros: Fresh and hot made to order food. Love the cilantro and green salsa which gives the food a nice clean and cool feel in my mouth.Con: Wish I knew that there was a soda fountain option as a drink option.Would I return: I am always trying to eat the same place twice as a follow up on places I review. So, yes. I will return. Plus the day I went, they had menudol and osso bucco which I also love. Got to try theirs. There was a soda fountain dispenser but that option was not offered to me when ordering my drinks.

I had high hopes cause I've heard so much good things and was excited for the "FINALLY a good burrito place in Hawaii Kai"Unfortunately, the food was MEH. It was very flavorless, a little too dry, no spice, just very plain and nothing amazing about it.We tried a few street tacos and burritos and we all felt the same, just no flavor. Will give it another shot after some time, give them a little more time to settle into the new place

Ummmmmmmm, me LOVES me a good burrito and Clau and Chui's Cocina in Hawaii Kai surely delivered yesterday! My friend wanted to take me here for a meal, as she knows that I LOVE my Mexican grindages! Known for their Tortas (unfortunately I didn't edjumacate myself before coming here, as I didn't know what a torta was), I totally missed out on da boat as I could have had an opportunity to try something new. (Insert SAD Panda face). What is a torta? It's basically a Mexican sandwich. You had a choice of meat for your sandwich - Milanesa chicken, beef, pastor, carnitas, chorizo, suadero, chicken. After choosing your meat, the sandwich came with lettuce, tomatoes, onions & avocado, and the bread looked like some sorta "flat bread" thingy? As for my burrito, I must say they packed it, and didn't use too much filler. A good quality burrito, only wished they provided more options as far as hot sauce goes. For a appetizer, my friend & I shared a plate of Cheese Fries with chicken. The cheese fries came with guacamole, sour cream, & salsa.Of the 3 dishes we got, I would say the Cheese Fries was the weakest dish. Although the toppings sounded good, I must say the chicken was a little dried out on the fries. The fries were excellently done, if I had some ketchup, I would have been good to go! Lol!Overall, still a nice find in Hawaii Kai, as I rather hit up this place in Koko Marina, vs. going to the local Taco Bell in the same complex. Lol!

Clau and Chui's Cocina opened a third location - this time it's in Hawaii Kai. I've been trying to go to their Wahiawa location forever, but it's always closed on Sunday's when im in the area. Luckily there's one slightly closer now and their operating hours is pretty good. They're located in the farthest shopping center in Hawaii Kai where the Petco is located. They're in the far back next to zippys. Theres lots of free/available parking as well. Theres two entrances - one from the parking lot and one from the pier and lots of available seating either indoors or outdoors. I actually came here twice - first time i got the recommended cubano torta for about $18? It kinda caught me off guard as there was several half slices of hotdogs in there. taste wise was ok but it definitely wasn't my favorite. Went back again another day for the birria tacos ($20) and it still was just ok. Kinda disappointed since i heard so many good things about this place and with my many attempts to try to go to the other location.

Savory and delicious. Very friendly owner staff. Convenient parking. I am not the most experienced critic of Mexican fare. With my limited exposure, I go with my gut. Literally. The two page menu display by the register is simple and to the point. No frills or fancy signage needed. I ask what's good and owner Claudia enthusiastically recommends the Street Tacos and Birria while calling me "Sweetie". The price point is on the higher end ($18 for 3 tacos). This may raise an eyebrow for lunch prices. But the food is delicious. When I say that, I mean I inhaled all three tacos in 5 minutes. Greasy, yes. But I'm not coming here for health reasons. When I bite into the taco, the Birria juices run down my hand and I unabashedly catch the shredded meat with my teeth. The dish comes with consommé and salsa, both leveling up the flavor factor. The consommé is the sleeper accompaniment. The red onions and cilantro compliment the cheesy, meaty tacos perfectly. You do not need much salsa- a dab is plenty for that extra kick. Congratulations to owners Claudia and Chui on their new location (their original is in Wahiawa). Wishing you much success in the new year and beyond.I am one satisfied customer that will definitely return... with friends.

Pretty new restaurant in Koko Marina close to Moena Cafe. Clau and Chui's is a friendly space that was relatively crowded when we went to pick up food. There was a line to order and our food was ready when we got there. The staff was friendly and efficient, answering any questions the people in front of us had. We got two taco plates with carne asada tacos and a burrito. We thought the tacos were a bit pricey but they gave a good amount of carne asada. The beans were especially tasty. We liked the burrito best! We felt it was filling and flavorful.

Legit Mexican food in East Oahu! We went about 6pm on Valentine's Day and were able to get in and out before it got crowded at 7 pm. Hubby got the special Chile Rojo and it was perfectly spiced - but could have used more than three of the soft tortillas that came with it. My Enchiladas Suizas plate was actually too much food, so I took half home. Enchiladas were filled with tender shredded chicken and the green crema sauce was just slightly spicy. Be sure to get the horchata!

Super excited this restaurant opened. It's just what the area desperately needed. You'll find them tucked way in the back of Koko Marina Center by the Zippy's. Plenty of parking which is always a big plus. The experience is casual, just order at the counter and they bring food to your table. Now that we've been three times, I can honestly say they are making solid, authentic, and delicious food. Maybe not the best on the island and a few issues with a little too much salt, but pretty damn good. I'm sure they're just working things out with new staff. Between my wife and I, we've tried out a variety of tacos, a huge torta, enchiladas, plus beans and rice. They provide generous portions and tacos come with a fresh, bright salsa that takes everything to the next level.I'd pretty much order everything again, but not until I get through the entire menu. I do wish they served alcohol, but they are BYOB.
