Shaka Shaka (AKA Choon Chun) was a laid back place to have a couple of drinks and sing with good company. Came here on a Saturday night around 9:30pm and it wasn't very busy but all the rooms were taken. We reserved a room for 10pm but we weren't able to go in until ~10 min after. The staff was really diligent about asking the party in there to leave though, so thankfully we weren't left to wait forever. The karaoke rooms here aren't as trendy as other places like Cafe Gangnam but it does the job to offer cool disco lights and a fun song selection. They recently added a larger karaoke room that fit the 15 of us but can definitely fit more if needed. The seats are positioned in a U shape with the monitor center front facing the seats. The service was also great throughout the entire night. They made sure we were able to get into the room we reserved, then gave us the large karaoke room an hour after (we just had way too many people to squeeze into the smaller room), and they were quick to come into the room when we rang for them. Parking was a little hard to find but if you're coming on Kalakaua, make sure you turn RIGHT after the Fabric Mart which will lead you into a small driveway to the parking lot behind the building. There's a small sign at the top of the Shaka Shaka building but it's so small that it's very easy to miss, especially at night. Though Shaka Shaka is less modern and hip as other places, I liked it for the chill ambiance, not having to wait forever to get a karaoke room is always appreciated. Service that won't forget about your drunk butts is also a plus, and there are ample parking spaces in the lot (once you locate it), even on the weekends.

For the Karaoke Rooms! Looking for an inexpensive night out? This is your place to go!Unlike other places, the rooms are "free" (don't forget to make reservations, so you're not stuck waiting) and you pay $1 per song. The machine takes bills up to $20 and will display your credits on the screen. The remote that you're using is all in Korean (though there are only a few buttons you really need to use - staff will show you if you ask). The remote can be finicky for those who don't use it - you may accidentally skip songs and forgo $1.Unfortunately, the number of NEW songs here are limited so don't be disappointed if you don't find your new jams. Plenty of oldies though!I think we spent only about $40 for 3 hours in the karaoke room - not bad! Drinks are not bad - though the ease of ordering things by picking up the phone in the karaoke room can be a bit concerning (in a good way?). Their garlic fries are DELICIOUS - made fresh and super garlicky. There were others who were sitting outside in the dining area eating dinner as well (guess you can just eat here if you want!). Maybe pregame or postgame in a karaoke room!

The fire chicken with green onion is so damn delicious. Every time I'm in Hawaii I need to eat it. The other dishes are good too but the fire chicken is where it's at with this place.

During the school year, my classmates (who share the same love for karaoke as I do) and I started coming here. We actually came across this place from one of our classmates who had been here before, and we've been coming back ever since. It became a ritual to come here to celebrate after exam days.Located right off Kalakaua, there's a little parking lot right behind Fabric Mart. There's an entrance to the karaoke place right in the back from the parking lot too. The venue is a little on the smaller side, but that's what gives it that chill, laid back feel. There's a couple of booths and tables, as well as a couple of TVs set up for karaoke if you want to sing out by the bar. They have 4 rooms; 3 small and 1 large one. The large room I think fits about 10 comfortably (although you can squish to make more room and they offer to bring in a chair if there's not enough seat space). This place is a "you pay by song, not the room" kind of place which I like howeverrr the controls for the song selection are all in Korean so definitely ask the workers how to use it before you start pressing buttons. Once you enter a song, it automatically counts your dollar. Too often my friends and I get too excited and end up entering the song more than once and wasting a dollar so be careful! You also don't need a reservation in order to book the rooms but I'd say to call ahead and reserve one anyways just so you're sure you got a spot. The song selection is kind of limited but they do have some new release songs that aren't in the book (you'll have to search them using the remote). The food and drinks there are pretty good. We usually get the kimchee pancake (superrrrr good & crispy edges), kimchee fried rice, and the spicy honey chicken. They're all really tasty and it goes perfectly with our mixed sojus! The service is awesome and all the workers are really attentive and friendly!

Is this place self-served?My friends brought us here one night for us to check out. Korean-owned karaoke bar that is very well-lit and nicely decorated. However, service was non-existent after the waitress showed us to our table. We ordered our drinks from the bar and closed our tab at the bar. Asked for more Chex Mix from the bar but they never delivered it. Sigh.We ordered a carafe of yogurt soju, $18, and this huge bottle of Hite beer, $14.http://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=eR1CZx03llpP772vYfm0RgThe soju was strong which was much appreciated and it tasted good. If you are looking for variety of soju flavors, you are better off at Cafe Duck Butt.Tons of parking but it is easy to miss. Turn RIGHT AFTER Fabric Mart on Kalakaua Ave into the drive way and voila, a hidden parking lot you never knew existed in the area!Shaka Shaka wasn't bad but it definitely was not good. Not sure if I'll come back because of the lack of service. Thankfully, good company makes up for bad food and beverage experiences.

This place is definitely recommended. The staff are very nice and friendly. The atmosphere and rooms there are very nice also. It is a great place for karaoke and the songs are pretty updated. The price is also very reasonable. The food is also very good. I recently had my boyfriends birthday party here and it went extremely well. Their biggest karaoke room holds about 15 ppl but we had way more ppl than that but they were happy to bring in more chairs for us and welcome us. Whenever we spilt drinks or beers the workers would willingly help clean it up. Out of all the karaoke bars and places I've gone to this one provided the best customer service. The bartender is also a very friendly and happy person. I love this place.

My friend said she was going to Shaka Shaka and I should meet her.... so I went. I had a hard time finding this place, but basically it's near that fabric shop on Kalakaua before you hit Kapiolani. We went into one of their karaoke rooms... It's probably suppose to be for 6 people or so, but we squeezed in 12 people or so. LoL. So ya... it was a tight squeeze for us. Their karaoke list is extensive, but if you don't read Korean, it can be hard. Thankfully, I can... so I was able to help everyone find their song. It's $1/song. Of course they have drinks and food, but I didn't have anything since I already drank and ate before I met up with them... Next time I'll try though!

One night my friend and I got off of work and when we finish work we are off after 12am, but we wanted a good drink and food! She was all about the super cold beer (because it gets served in a frozen glass) and I wanted flavored soju (strawberry yumm). She also raved about how delicious their fried chicken was.So, we get there, a little after 12. Parking is good, its right in the back and there is an entrance in the back. Hardly anyone there, just a couple of other tables and one room was occupied by a bunch of singers. There was one worker up in the front and she seemed a little ... occupied. She was not very aware as she was super slow to serve us. We had to call her to our table a few times. And our one order of chicken took longer than 30 minutes!!! When we called her over for that she just said that they were busy earlier.... I totally get it when it gets busy. But, let us know, don't leave us hanging, and also we ordered one thing, not a list, get us out of the way and settle our order.I did enjoy the food (chicken was delicious for sure and a good price), and the soju, so I would definitely go back. I'm just going to allot more time for the service.
