I really hate writing this review.I've put it off for a while now, on purpose...You may read this, but you must promise not to go here.I want it all to myself...all of it.I've eaten a lot of shave ice, and this might be the best shave ice on the island...period.Popping up at Fishcake on Saturdays and Island Boy on Sundays, this customer oriented company provides a beautiful bowl of bliss that is instantly addictive. The flavor of the syrups, the texture of the shave ice, the customer service, and the value cant be beat.A perfect two-person operation, this dynamic duo provide superb shave ice in one very large bowl. It is possible for one person to eat it...but it wouldn't hurt to go on an empty stomach. I have been here many times and have started planning my weekends around their business hours and locations. And I'm not embarrassed because it's just delicious. Ok, so here is what I have had..My AwardHalf strawberry milk / Half not so hot chocolate -both flavors are amazing on their own, but at the end, when everything is melted...the liquid tastes like a chocolate dipped strawberry....yes...I know.My Wife's AwardHalf Hojicha / Half Haupia / Ice cream underneath / homemade mochi balls -she doesnt deviate...she gets this everytime. -I am only allowed two bites, and one sip at the end.-if you happen to go on the weekend, ice cream I believe is only available at the Island Boy locationOld School AwardStrawberry and Grape-this is a very nostalgic shave ice with nice, intense flavors.-definitely for someone who is a shave ice purist.Surprise AwardMandarin Orange and Mango-when it came out, it looked like one flavor...because it was almost all the same color-the two flavors were so vibrant and bright, there was no mistaking what each flavor was.-the mango almost felt and tasted like puree...so ono!-the melted 'juice' at the end was divineI am not sure if I will put anything in my mouth again other than Chillest Shave Ice...so...please dont go.

Follow them on instagram @chillestshaveice for the up-to-date hours and store pop-up locations.EXCELLENT VALUE, AMAZING HOME-MADE FLAVORS, PILLOWY-SOFT ICE, and AMAZING HUMAN BEINGS.Chillest is my FAVORITE shave ice place on the island, literally THE BEST, THE GOAT. They are owned by a local couple that are really the sweetest people you will ever meet. I just wish they were open more than two days a week. They currently pop-up at fishcake on Saturdays from 1030AM to 4PM and at island boy on Sundays from 11AM to 4PM.My current favorite combo is Hojicha (from Daily Whisk Matcha) and their amazing Haupia (and I don't even like coconut that much). This pairing is so nice, with the creaminess of the haupia offset by the roasted flavor of the Hojicha. Nothing I've had from them is too sweet, and nothing tastes like those artificial flavors you'd find at some touristy spots. You can tell that they take pride in what they do and that they really know what they are doing. Some of my friends' favorite flavors include strawberry milk, matcha, and not-so-hot chocolate! The ice is so soft and although they give you a GIANT heap of shave ice, you can't stop eating it until it's GONE. Their prices are between $5 and $7, which is a STEAL for this quality of shave ice and syrups. And did I mention that these two are some of the nicest human beings you will ever meet? They are truly the chillest haha.YOU HAVE TO TRY CHILLEST!!! I've gone over 10 times if I'm being honest.

Takes a visit from my California cousin to venture into the shave ice zone. One of her visiting goals is always to have a shave ice a day while in Hawaii. So I consider her my "expert" on the subject. Today her selection brought us to "Chillest"Had to see it for myself how this rather unknown spot made it to cousin's short list. First notice are how large the servings are. Definitely easily shared. ...the shave ice bowls at Chillest are HUUUGE! I could eat less than half by myself. Second observation was the unique flavors listed. Loved seeing the "local" POG (passion orange guava). Got really excited when I saw matcha and hojicha and kinako as options. Here at Chillest you can select three flavors with your treat. You can also add on a snow cap at no extra charge. I quickly went from intended bystander to eager participant. Got temporarily blinded by the yummieness of choices by the person in front of me and spontaneously changed up to: matcha, hojicha, and strawberry milk. Ohhh myyy yumm. Found my new happy place with first bite. Shave ice was fine and light like cotton. Flavors were delicious and refreshing withOUT being overly sweet. If you have a sweet tooth you would probably be better to stick to their fruity flavors. Chillest currently operating as a popup on Saturday's only in the Fish Cake on Kamani Street AND on Sunday as a popup on Waialae and 9th Avenue in Kaimuki. Formerly operated as Ailana, you may remember them from Kona Street just outside of Ala Moana Center or other location in Waikiki. Will I be back? Absolutely. Maybe next week!

Absolutely delicious shave ice, the best we tried on Oahu! The ice is so delicate and melt in your mouth. The flavors are strong enough that you can appreciate their flavors, and not too sweet (the perfect amount). The strawberry milk is the tastiest and most unique flavor!

After hearing about Chillest for a couple years, I was finally able to make it out to one of their pop ups. Especially since I was a fan of their Strawberry milk when it was Ailana's. So when I was finally able to make it, of course I had to get the Strawberry Milk. I got the Lilikoi and Strawberry Milk. And it was as good as I remember it. The ice is so soft it just melts in your mouth! So good and refreshing! Hopefully the next time I'm back in Hawaii, I'll be able to make it to one of their pop ups!

We love coming here almost every Saturday after playing pickleball only a few blocks away. My fave combo is the Matcha + Strawberry Milk + Haupia, with snow cap. The syrups are so delish and high quality. The prices are so reasonable (includes free toppings).Dog-friendly, and they even have pup shave ice. The nicest people run this pup up and I recommend following them on Instagram for updates.Only cash or Venmo accepted. I can't recommend it enough!

I am so happy I got to go here. They always sell out doe so you better act quick otherwise I will eat everything and nothing will be left. Tried their matcha combo with the strawberry, much like the strawberry matcha drink at Daily Whisk. The matcha strawberry drink is my go-to order at Daily Whisk so this flavor was a no-brainer.Absolutely in love with their shave ice. Light and fluffy like I am eating a little cloud. The fluffiness of the shave ice reminds me of Frankie - the mascot of Ten Tomorrow, yet not really because I wouldn't eat Frankie. He's a nice dog. But anyways you get the idea. Flavors were great and I could taste them all clearly in tandem with the fluffy ice. Definitely some of the best I've had. If not the best one I have tried yet and I have tasted a lot. I can see why they always sell out. Next pop-up I will be back!

Found another Okinawan owned business on Oahu! Chillest Shave Ice is owned and operated by Aaron Wong, who has family roots in Naha, Okinawa. Aaron has been making shave ice since 2011. In addition of private events, he pops up every Saturday (with Shima-ya) at Fishcake in Kakaako from 10:30 am to 4 pm. Prices are reasonable ($5 for classic, $6 for house flavors, $7 for matcha) with generous portions and free toppings of snowcap or chocolate drizzle. Chillest Shave Ice makes their own syrups. They have classic syrups that are reminiscent of old school flavors that are bold but not just sugar sweet. They also offer signature flavors like Strawberry Milk. They use real strawberries, real mango, real papaya, real coconut milk and real matcha from Japan - these homemade flavors strive to be as close to the original source as possible. For the ice, the texture is also striving for nostalgia, with light and fluffy ice. I went there early to make sure I could get a seat and ate a shave ice as an appetizer while I waited for my Chinese Hand Pulled noodles from Shima-ya. Then I had my noodles and got a shave ice for dessert. :D Menu changes every week, so check their IG on Thursday for flavors. They accept cash or Venmo. IG: @chillestshaveiceSide Note: I remember going to potlucks and parties and ALWAYS seeing Almond Float at the dessert table. I don't see it that often anymore. Is Almond Float not a thing anymore? Too humbug to make? Anyway, I digress. Aaron from Chillest Shave Ice is experimenting with an Almond Float Shave Ice!! I got to taste test his creation. One side is covered in Mandarin Orange Syrup. The other side is Lychee Syrup. Inside the mountain of ice are generous scoops of almond float squares and Maraschino Cherries. WAS GOOD! Totally made me remember all those Almond Floats I used to eat. Was funny. John said that they were too much maraschino cherries in the shave ice and that Aaron was being too generous. John said the Almond Floats he ate, you were lucky if you got one cherry in your serving and you'd have to dig around looking for em. Super creative and super ono. Chillest Shave Ice is going to be joining Okinawan FEASTival this year (with Shima-ya) and they are going to try to make GOYA SHAVE ICE!! I am bitterly looking forward to that!! #okieats

Dessert was my lunch in Kaka'ako, Honolulu, Hawaii...My car temperature was 88°F and I had been perspiring since this morning because it was my mom's birthday (I was setting things up). Her celebration at church went well, so, it was time for me to get something for myself...I have been postponing my visit to Chillest Shave Ice for weeks. Life happens and luckily, I kept moving this event (on the calendar on my phone) to the next Saturday!Between 10:30am and 4pm, this pop-up occurs every Saturday. You can check their Instagram page for the latest news and flavors. There's free parking along Kamani Street. Just stay within the white marks on the ground and don't block any driveways!Look for the "fishcake" signs and the sidewalk signs. Fishcake is an open-air studio type of space with different vendors. Chillest Shave Ice was right at the door, so, I didn't have to go far.Somehow, I didn't have my wallet with me, and I was able to use Venmo. Thank goodness! I chose "rainbow" shave ice: strawberry, lychee, and matcha. I was charged $7 because the matcha is premium quality from Daily Whisk Matcha in Kaimuki! I could tell that it was real matcha from the texture... And the strawberry and lychee flavors tasted spot on, too!The texture is light, fine, and fluffy! Each bowl is prepared carefully... With much Aloha!I'm so happy that I found Chillest Shave Ice! I'm going to bring my friends and family here!
