Want some Szechuan cooking? This is the place to be. It's like going to a Chinese restaurant and ordering your food like Genki sushi. There is a QR code at your table. You scan it, review the menu and order your dish. They would then deliver your dish to your table and keep track of what you ordered and your total bill. Not all dishes are spicy. You can order them Mild or some are not spicy. There are also a spot where you can give special instructions if needed. The dishes that was ordered were:*Mung bean jelly noodles in chili sauce: Interesting concept on a dish that is clear noodles with hot sauce.*Bean curd sheets with chili sauce: Very tasty but my lunch companions didn't care for it.*Spareribs with pineapple: not spicy. It was like sweet and sour pork ribs.*Chengdu fried rice: was okay. Not to dry and tasty. *Chengdu Special clams: not spicy and like in a garlic sauce. *Stir fried beef with cilantro: tasty and beef was tender. You got to like cilantro which I do.There was no service after they brought us water. No menu was given. They didn't ask if we knew how to order because it was our first time there. Notice the QR code on the table. Came out as soon as it was done. Restaurant has a update feel and look. Pro: We liked the non spicy food. I like the medium spicy food because I like medium spicy. Liked that some dishes when you ordered by QR code, you can give instructions on how spicy you want your food. Like you can see what you ordered and the total bill amount as you order. Con: Wish some of the dishes could be ordered non spicy. But, it is a Szechuan restaurant. Parking is limited valid or street parking.Would I go back: Not really.

Authentic Sichuan food. It's been windy all week in Honolulu and I've been thinking about some Sichuan spicy fish stew. I've decided to get boiled sliced fish in hot sauce and pickled shredded potatoes thru Uber eats. Food were appropriately packaged and promptly delivered.Delicious and generously portioned. Will try other things in the menu next time.

Their rice! Dry. Not sure why???As if they keep the rice cooker lid open or slightly ajar at all times. The purpose of this one star rating is to get the attention of someone who can make a change. On their dishes, I would give 5 stars. On their productivity and service, 5 stars. So, please, coming from a Chinese dude who is also a chef, just fix your rice, so that I may adjust this rating to a 5!!!Forgot to mention, we've been coming to this restaurant since it first opened some years ago...maybe once per month. Love it!! But we are a Chinese community, Chinese cuisine...how do we not take more care in how we serve rice? This has to improve, no? Especially as a palate cleanser to the spicy and oily nature of central Chinese cuisine. Am I wrong?

***4.5 STARS***I enjoy spicy food but have noticed my heat tolerance levels aren't as high like before. Perhaps, I'm often dining with my family where favorite niece and nephew by default can both pack a punch. I don't think I could have handled the kiddies' spice levels when I was at their age. Favorite niece by default graduated from medical school last month and she chose the graduation dinner venue: Chengdu Taste (CT), a Szechuan restaurant chain that hails from Southern California that had been under my radar for quite some time now. Located on the 2F of 808 Center, I've often passed CT when I patronize my go to sushi restaurant which is on the 3F of 808 Center. I've witnessed many Chinese speaking patrons come here and in my books, that's a good sign of my the cuisine's authenticity. CT has been at 808 Center (1F) since 2016 and relocated to 2F location since Feb 2019, with sister restaurant Mian taking over the 1F spot. Upon entry, I was impressed with the upbeat ambiance with bright lighting and bold colors in decor. Staff greeted me and led me to our table as one of my family members arrived first. Great first impression. Favorite niece and nephew have been to CT before so they took lead with ordering. My sister and I also added a couple of dishes that were appealing. Food order is submitted via QR code and our wait didn't seem long as we were discussing the graduation ceremony. As expected, the food here at CT is overall spicy but there are some dishes without heat so reach out to the staff for suggestions. Crowd favorites were the beancurd sheets in scallion sauce, bo bo chicken, Szechuan noodles dan dan style and the toothpick lamb in cumin. The kiddies really enjoyed the mao xue wang, a stewed dish of assorted "pig parts" with some Spam in the numbing mala and spicy sauce. Just not my thing. On the contrary, family didn't care for the spareribs with pineapple sauce but I thoroughly enjoyed this. Perhaps it helped cool down my mouth after sampling a whole bunch of spicy foods. For dessert we got the fried bun with condensed milk. It was delivered to our table hot and fresh where it was easily gobbled up. We were sadly disappointed with the mung bean jelly with spicy sauce and the spring onion chicken in pepper sauce. They both fell flat. The Chengdu fried rice and Szechuan duck were just okay for us. Probably won't be ordering them again. Service was above average for a Chinese restaurant, where I usually lower my standards. The restaurant was quite busy but staff were friendly and attentive, and provided us with takeout containers for our leftovers. Overall, a positive first experience at CT where I'd be game for a return visit. There are other things on the menu that I'd like to explore. The prices here at CT are reasonable and with decent portions.

I've always heard about this place so I decided that today was the day to stop by! My boyfriend and I arrived around 5:05pm on a Wednesday and it wasn't crowded since they just opened. The interior is modern meets Chinese culture. It was so beautiful! We were seated and the staff wasn't friendly and didn't say much. You order through a QR code on the table which was convenient. The water given was absolutely horrendous. It tasted so metallic as if there were coins in the water. The water pitcher and cups were made of a metal but it tasted so bad the taste made me nauseous. I got the Flavored Spicy Beef Noodle and my boyfriend got the Sautéed Beef with Onions. When our food came, the server would just place the plate on the table, not even look at us or say anything, and just walk away. Although the service was bad, we were impressed with the our meals. The noodles were perfectly bouncy and had just the right amount of heat to make your mouth tingle but not enough to cause any discomfort. The Sautéed Beef with Onions was surprisingly delicious. At first my boyfriend was hesitant to order it since he thought he'd be able to make it at home and wanted to try something more complex. The beef was thinly sliced with the perfect amount of flavor. The onions were so crunchy and fresh that it added a different texture which paired nicely. Also the beef doesn't come with rice so you'll have to order it on the side. Although the food was great, I'm giving this place a 3 stars because of the awful water and terrible service. I understand not everyone is cheerful or friendly at work but a simple smile or a couple of words would have been nice and polite. It literally felt like we were bothering them by eating at the restaurant. Come here if you want good food but stay away if you're looking for decent service.

Very good + authentic Sichuan food! This restaurant is on the second level of a plaza on Rycroft and Sheridan street, and parking's available on the street or you can try and grab the few spots they have in the plaza's lot (first hour free). The interior of the place is spacious and clean with large windows facing the street, and I liked how the servers were super attentive and friendly! We got the mapo tofu, sauteed eggplant, chengdu style fried rice, and griddle cooked frog. The mapo tofu was soft and flavorful, and the eggplant was melt-in-your-mouth and had a nice sweet and sour taste. I liked the frog as well, it was numbingly spicy and the meat was really tender. The only thing that was just ok was probably the fried rice, but I did like all the other dishes. Will definitely come back for more!

I've always wanted to come here so I was happy to finally visit. The ambiance is very welcoming as someone of chinese descent. The restaurant's service structure is slightly different than others, instead of getting your order taken by a server, you just scan a QR code and choose the dishes you'd like. It's pretty straight forward but also means you don't really have someone to inquire about the dishes. I also needed to keep weirdly stare at the servers to get help when I needed the takeout containers, check, and napkins. We got the bobo chicken to start with, it was cold, which we didn't realize till it arrived to the table. Despite the RED color, it wasn't too spicy for me, and the flavor was pretty good. There was so much sauce we took it home since we loved the flavor of it.We also got the toothpick lamb with cumin. It was delicious and we ate it all. My mom insisted that we get the shredded pork with garlic sauce, as we often get that at other chinese restaurant. Big mistake, it was NOT what we expected. For some reason it was sour? We tried to eat it and even mixed it with the sauce from the bobo chicken to 'save' it, we even took it home thinking that maybe we'll eat it when we are more hungry. Nope, in the trash it goes :/ (and I hate wasting food btw).We also got the flavored spicy beef noodle. It was delicious, we ate it all despite how spicy it was. Probably more spicy than the average can handle, my mom wanted to try it and there was instant regret in her eyes. From the bowl it seems like it's from the noodle shop down stairs called "Mian", been there as well!Overall, would MAYBE come back if my family wanted to or to take someone here who has never tried foods on the menu as they have a large variety.

As a spicy food lover, it met my expectations! The food was flavorful and had some heat. I ordered the "more spicy" for all my dishes and I thought it had a kick, so I'm sure for general audiences it was VERY spicy. Restaurant is clean, open, lots of natural light, and gives 1hr free valet parking. They do not have physical menus so will need to scan the QR code at the table to view menu and order through that as well. The only cons are that the server did not come check on me throughout the meal, and the winter melon tea wasn't too tasty.

Went this past week and quickly was seated with no wait. Food was just as delicious as I remembered it to be, even dreaming about it right now. The had a remodel of the restaurant, new chairs, tables, lighting fixtures, and new art/paint on the walls - looks great and super comfy!
