Saw a new eatery near Leeward Drive-Inn and was drawn here since Hawaiian Food is a staple, especially (red, not brown) beef stew. In Waipahu (and Waikele), Highway Inn and Laverne's, former and latter, make great beef stew of the red variety. (People don't realize red beef stew is more local and brown beef stew is more mainland unless you grow up in Hawaii.)First walking in, the place was empty, but boasts a decent size dining room. You could probably host parties of about 50-60, but I didn't take an actual count. They have a corner both-sex bathroom, so females may not like sitting next to a urinal (where guys aim horribly). Being new, everything was still clean and tidy. In between the bathroom and counter was a water table with cafeteria sized brown water jugs and some condiments and napkins. Overall the ambiance was nice with monitors as digital menus. First impression, nice. The counter had a kitchen take-out feel, and the few workers I interacted with were very friendly. After looking at the menu, I ordered a Beef Stew, asked for all rice, and gravy on rice. With most places now, beef stew is portioned out, so I was told it would be served in a large cup, and I can pour the gravy all over the rice.Wait time was a little little longer, considering most stew at 5pm would be made already, so prep (and warming) still shouldn't take as long as it did. Take out was served as expected in a take out box and bowl/cup. Weight seemed okay too. Second impression, still okay. Now the bad. Opening the plate looked horrible. Rice was tainted with red stew sauce as if someone put the stew in, then scooped it back out into the cup. Also served with mac too, so oh well. Stew cup was full, BUT after pouring it out, I had maybe two pieces of cubed meat, not the big either, and LOTS of potatoes and carrots. Finicky with stew, I eat all carrots and potatoes first. Third impression, fail. The stew was cold, not even tepid. It was a deep red, like tomato paste red, not the regular red stew from others near by. It was salty, and the sauce was separated where you had a very watery texture. The white rice was undercooked with hard kernels, and the mac was ok.As I was eating, I also noticed I was overcharged, looking on my receipt, with Beef Luau. Beef Stew comes in two sizes which I ordered the large. Being disappointed with the final experience, I decided they can have my overcharge since I wasn't planning on returning. If you eat here, good luck, but maybe my experience was a fluke.

Located in the Westgate Shopping Center in Waipahu with parking right in front. We went on a Saturday at peak lunch hour. No one was in the restaurant. Restaurant was clean. There was a TV in the corner and John Wick was on. The temperature in the restaurant was very warm, like the AC wasn't working. The lady who took our order was pleasant. My husband and I both ordered the Combo Plates which came with the following:Lau Lau- 1 piece of pork and fat. The taste was good.Kalua Pig - was super salty and dry.Chicken Long Rice - was piping hot but had no taste.Choice of Squid or Beef Luau - a part of mine was cold, like it was previously made and they heated it up. No coconut milk taste at all.Choice of Rice or Poi - Poi tasted like day old. Lomi Salmon - about 2 tablespoons worth, it was ok.Okinawan Sweet Potato - a small piece and cold.Pineapple - looked like canned slice, not fresh.Haupia - was delicious, creamy, but a small piece. Each plate was $25. We would prefer Waiahole Poi Factory or Highway Inn in Waipahu.

Actually a 4.5. Had to try here since I found it on my trusty yelp. The owner was the only one in the restaurant when I arrived at the restaurant 15 minutes after opening time, and we had a nice chat since nobody else was there yet.Camilles is located at Westgate center, on Farrington Highway, right after passing Waipahu Intermediate school on the left. You can't miss it if you are on Farrington Hwy coming from H1 EB going towards ewa. It will be on your right.2 choice combo plate for $20 - 5 stars overall - you can't beat the price when you have a any 2 items to choose from, plus rice, lomi salmon, haupia and pineapple. I ordered the squid luau and smoked meat. The smoked meat was pretty good, but not as flavorful as others I've eaten, so it would be a 3.5 stars for me. The squid luau was served In a 1/2 lb round container it was much sweeter than any other I've eaten with a strong coconut taste. Was ono to me, and I'd definitely order this again, considering I like certain foods on the sweeter side. The haupia was light and the sweet potato was cooked just right.Pork sliders - 5 stars - for $15, I got 5 sliders. The kalua pork was loaded in the buns with a tangy bbq sauce on top. Although the pork only was a little wet, I'd order this again because it balances the soft buns.Pastele Stew - 5 stars - for $15, I usually don't like pastele stew, but this stew was loaded with stewed meat and this wasn't as strong tasting or salty as some others I've tried. I could eat the whole plate if I wanted to, but I had to share, and try all the other food I bought.Fried rice - the owner gave us some of his fried rice to try. It was pretty good.Service - 5 stars - the owner was really nice happy and friendly. He mentioned he just opened 5 months ago and asked how I heard of his restaurant. Of course, I told him yelp, and he noticed yelpers have been coming in since he opened. The dining area was very clean, and there was a table where you get your water and plastic utensils. However, there is a 3% surcharge for using a credit card. No charge on debit cards. He also has a banquet room on the side of his restaurant that holds up to 80 people, and a live band on certain days between 5 - 7p I think. Parking - lots of parking, but can be stiff since there are a lot of other restaurants and stores along the this strip.I really hope his restaurant thrives because we don't have many places in Waipahu that serves hawaiian food, especially since his plates are priced less than any food truck or restaurant with the amount of food you get.

Randomly walked in here on a week night and I'm so glad I did.Once we got in, we were immediately welcomed by Bridgette in the front who is a part of this family owned business. So welcoming and easy going. We opted for a combination plate of Pastele Stew and Squid Luau and an Ala cart of their Chicken Long Rice for our kids. Edna, one of the cooks in the back brought our food out with a complimentary side of their house fried rice. The fried rice had pieces of their smoked meat, spam and Portuguese sausage. So tasty, something we will definitely order next visit!Talk about first impressions, what got our attention immediately was the generous portions of food! Take a look at my photos and you'll see that combination plates traditionally aren't that big Everything was flavorful and you could taste the pride in this family owned business. Traditionally Hawaiian food isn't cheap because of the time it takes to make it and the ingredients aren't cheap either. Yet I firmly believe their prices were VERY affordable and their portions again are very generous. Also, Hawaiian Food and "Hawaiian" BBQ are two totally different things. So comparing prices between the two is like comparing apples and oranges. You truly feel the aloha in this family owned business and taste in their food. My family felt so cozy being there and look forward to our next visit. If you want a legit taste of reasonably priced traditional Hawaiian food served with aloha, come by and visit this family. You will not be disappointed. You'll end up feeling like a part of their ohana like we did.

Funny, I came to this shopping center to eat at a different restaurant but as I made my way there, Camille's had their specials menu board out and that's what caught my eye. Detour lolCurrently sitting in Camille's starting this review as I wait for my food to cooldown (fresh just how I like it) This is actually my first time trying this place out and it definitely won't be the last. First, the staff here are very friendly. They welcome you with a smile and customer service is everything to me. Second, ordered the mini pork tofu watercress special. Drool! The portions were just enough to fill me up and keep me satisfied. Spacious, ac, and great ambiance overall.

This Place needs to be more advertised better !!Tonight their was live entertainment (best part) . Food was good would probably only come here if I'm too lazy to drive to waikele Lavern's .I like my laulau with little more taro leafs . Kalua pig was good might be slight salty for some. Didn't want to go to Highway Inn because of the extra charge they run you for . Also I over heard the cashier offer chili peperwatah to another table . We weren't offered any . Our total for all this came out to $60 .Like I said would probably only come here if I'm too lazy to drive to Lavern's .

Camille's is absolutely amazing! If you want a TRUE local taste and TRUE local vibe Camille's is it. Once inside, you immediately feel like you are part of their ohana. The food was great and the service amazing. They also have live music and we were lucky enough to experience an amazing local musician, part of the Pandanus Club. Do keep in mind, this is a "no frills" hole-in-the-wall, but it's a gem that feels like you're walking into Cheers! Where if everyone doesn't know your name yet, they certainly will know the next time. A hui Hou.

Customer service was great. However this was the second time they got our order wrong and had to go back to get the right dish. I wished we skipped it. The squid luau and tripe stew was spoiled, the sour taste was bad. My husband spit it out after I asked him to try it because it tasted like it had lemon, for both dishes. The kalua pork was salty, gave me a headache. We won't be patronizing this restaurant again. I'm sad because their food was good. I'll be going back to my old faithful...Marujyu.
