Adrienne B. "Once upon a time in a land far away there was a college student working in a non-profit on Wall Street in New York City who had fallen deeply and madly in love with Hale and Hearty Soups, a build your own salad and soup establishment that left you feeling full and not stuffed. The college student eventually grew up, moved around quite a bit and found herself working for what seems like minimum wage in downtown Honolulu. Still lusting over the perfect soup and salad lunch, this now grown salad enthusiast searched near and far for something to fit the craving.Enter San Francisco Salads. Now this place is NO Hale and Hearty Soups. There is no build your own salads, there is no wide variety of soups, BUT what they do have is freshly made, well prepared salads and delicious soups, even if the choices can be a bit monotonous. Where San Francisco Salads succeeds is in the quality not quantity of their offerings. All salad offerings are named after places/neighborhoods in San Francisco and run the gamut of a regular house type salad to several salad options with chicken to include caesar, oriental, greek, chef's salad, etc. and a salad option with salmon. You can tell the salads are prepared fresh daily and contain quality ingredients. The soup offerings are tomato basil, tortilla, sausage and potato and chicken and wild rice. I have only tried the tomato basil and the torilla soup but both are delicious with the tomato basil being a favorite. You also can select your choice of dressing and bread. Extra bread can be purchased for $1 apiece and soft drinks are also available for purchase. San Francisco Salads is a one man show with who I assume is the owner taking orders, payments and packing orders to go. Despite being a one-man operation, the wait is never too long and service is efficient, though not too friendly. While I'll always miss the make my own salad option of years past, this place is perfection for days I don't have home lunch and I'm not looking to induce a diabetic coma by ordering plate lunch."

Basically, everything is laid out and you just build your own plate. You choose your base, salad toppings, house made dressing and hot entree. We got the large $19.99. For our base we got Romaine lettuce. We picked carrots, cucumbers, eggs and cranberries & seeds for our toppings. Our hot entrees were steak and salmon. The dressing of choice was herb greek yogurt. Everything was good and so fresh. It was huge so the hubby and I shared it. The herb greek yogurt was light and barely detectable. My hubby asked for another dressing, balsamic vinaigrette, which they charged $1 for a side of additional dressing. This dressing was perfect. I love this place and will be back."

Shelby I. "Quality & elevated plate lunches! My hubby raved about this place's katsu sandwich. We were dog sitting in Mililani & had to stop by for lunch. First off, this place is located at the Mililani Mauka town center. It's a small shop where we were able to order in advance and pick up. We got the Katsu Sandwich & Salmon Katsu plate. My hubby loves the Katsu Sandwich ($16) here because the tonkatsu is crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. It has a good amount of shredded cabbage and tonkatsu sauce. It also came with a separate container of salad, edamame, & pickled veggies. My Salmon Katsu ($18.50) was honestly the best salmon Katsu I've ever had! First off, it was HUGE!! It had a nice crispy outer coating & was dipped in a sweet and savory ponzu sauce then topped with shiso aioli. It came with 2 scoops of rice, edamame, and pickled veggies. For the quality & amount of food you get, I think this place is priced right. Although we said 12pm pick up, the food wasn't ready which is fine with us because that means our food was super fresh & not sitting out. Overall, this will be our new go to place in Mililani!"

I'm always on the lookout for healthy food options and this was not only healthy but also delicious!I had the combination lunch which allows you to pick two options & comes with miso soup, green salad, and rice. The 2 items I chose - broiled shio salmon, and misoyaki butterfish. Wow! they were perfectly cooked, juicy with a slight crust. Not dry and not overcooked. So flavorful. Watch out Liliha's butterfish....this place is bringing the heat! Until now Liliha Bakery has always won my heart with their butterfish, but now it's going to be hard for me to decide where I get my butterfish! (added bonus you can choose if you want your broiled fish with either shio sauce or misoyaki). My food came out quite quickly. The staff were also very friendly. Aneisa D. "This is a very very late review!!! To be honest, I'm behind on a lot of reviews - work and life have made it slightly difficult to keep up!!! BUT!!! This year I have made it a point to start up again :)Okay, back to my review.I honestly cannot say anything but praise to Elijah and his team. I set out to plan my entire wedding all by myself and in looking for a wedding venue in early March of 2022 (did I mention that we were getting married ON Halloween of 2023), I came about this place from a friend who had mentioned the lunch he had there. Kept raving about it. So I looked them up and couldn't believe they were in the YMCA this whole time!!! And I had been there when I was younger but never paid any mind to the BEAUTIFUL architecture there!!! It has that slight gothic feel ... I fell in LOVE with the place!!My husband and I made an appointment with the event coordinator Elijah and also decided to have lunch to try the food while we were there. The food was awesome!! I had the pork chop, it's the one dish my friend wouldn't stop talking about. My husband had the fish I believe ...We enjoyed our food very much and as soon as we were done Elijah met with us.He was super helpful and gave us a tour of the place and what everything entailed with the different packages. He told us that our day (which is Halloween) is available!! We ended up deciding on using the courtyard for the ceremony and reception and because we wanted something small and intimate with about 35-40 people there - it seemed like the perfect place to do it. We had the option of using the ballroom in the event that it rained. We put our deposit down signed the agreement. For the food we decided to go buffet style ... you know your girl lives for a good buffet!! And although I wish I could tell you how awesome the food was that night .... I barely touched it (sadness).Anyway ... weeks before our big day Elijah kept in constant touch with us to make sure any last details were correct or taken care of. We really didn't have anything difficult requests ... with the exception of having Gee Yung there with their lions :D They were really our only big request.Elijah let us do a couple walk throughs so we could see where we wanted things. Easy right? It sure seemed that way when I first started planning lol The day of ... let me tell you. I was a big bag of anxiety!!! I was having panic attacks!!! BUT when my girls and I got there ... I let out a sigh ... kinda. We had a dark gothic theme, black and red colors ... gave everyone the choice of dressing up in costume. And we had it decorated Halloween style ... lots of cobwebs, tombstones ... skulls ... you get it. And on one of the walls in lights were both of our names in a heart ... The staff there were incredible!!!! They were behind the scenes but you knew they were there taking care of everything - from the rose petals that my 'flower bears' threw on the ground to packing left over cake!! FOREVER grateful to them!Would I do it all over again? Bet your sweet ass I would ... now that I know how to plan it lolWe even received a gift from Cafe Julia ... a beautiful clock with the date we got married and our names engraved into it. Beautiful keepsake. If you are looking for a venue please keep them in mind. Elijah is very professional and will accommodate if they can."

Angel C. "Fresh fish in Waipahu! Yes, this is the same restaurant as the Kaka'ako location. When in Waipahu, people can choose between Tanioka's (poke and local grinds) or Hou Fish Market (more on sushi rolls/party trays and sashimi). What I think is great about this spot is that Waipahu, Kunia, Ewa, and Ho'opili residents can enjoy quick, fresh sushi without having to hop on the H-1. Hou isn't a grab and go, nor a fancy sit down restaurant, but fast casual sushi. Hou serves boba teas as well, and they're not too bad (I'm a boba snob, so that says something!)I've stopped by here for lunch with my husband several times after church and almost all the time, we'd run into church friends! I've also ordered a mixed sushi platter when hosting my uncle from out of town. Hubby and I have also eaten here as my first sushi meal after a Japan trip when I was still having Japan withdrawals. The sushi satisfied my craving! I've taken pictures of Hou's sushi, but they're scattered all over my camera roll.Overall, the island has great sushi compared to the mainland and a lot of competition. So glad sushi chefs now serve Waipahu and aren't just concentrated in town. Hou Fish Market itself is a solid 4 stars (really, lots of sushi competition and you really have to stand out), but the fact that fresh sushi is available in Waipahu earns that 5th star!"
