Jason M. "The Pali Highway lookout was the first stop that we made during my Majestic Circle Island Tour. At the beginning of the tour we were provided an illustrated map highlighting our stops - everything sounded great so I had sort of high expectations for the lookout.Because I was with a tour group parking was no issue - we didn't stay here long but just enough that I was able to get some amazing views of Oahu. There are two tiers you can lookout from and a few access points so that you can get multiple angles. There's a whole lot of green, and the combination of the sun peeking out with the clouds really made for some picturesque views - I was snapping away. This isn't a place to stay for too long - it's not big and from what I saw there was only one main lookout point. That being said, if you're looking to get some great views and photos (plenty for the Instagram crowd), it's definitely worth it to make a stop here."

Dan O. "One of my pledges this year is to complete more reviews of dive sites and dive shops. Point Panic is my home reef, the dive site I regularly go. From my monthly reef cleanup with Nudiwear, who adopted PP as their clean up site, to venturing out during the winter time to some of the well known reefs beyond. PP is very convenient: it has a concrete staircase into the water, available shower after the dive, and parking. About the only major inconvenience is that the closest public restroom is about a block ewa from the parking lot. From remembering Point Panic as the site comedian Rap Reiplinger sang about in the song, "Faith Yanagi", to regularly coming down for fun or reef clean up dives, it is a favorite of mine! "Point Panic was unreal, 90 feet and glassy!" Will repeat and recommend!"

"While studying the Trail of Tears in 7th or 8th grade, if my memory serves correctly, each class held onto and carried a rope from the Middle school down to McDonalds and back up through the ravine. Towards the top, our PE teachers surprised us with water balloons. That has got to be one of the most memorable moments I had at MMS. Heck, I remember walking from MMS to town center on Fridays and on the last day of school! Oh the good ol' days! It's a beautiful path, well maintained for the most part. It's quite long path to walk, jog, stroll, or bike through. Nevertheless, it is in no way strenuous or intense. Perfect for little ones too. People walk their dogs just bring poop bags and remember to toss it in the trash can. Didn't notice any sketchy people around but I still wouldn't go alone. It's a nice neighborhood and the path isn't hard to find when going down or up."

Joie Y. "Most the old reviews are for a different park. Pacheco Neighborhood Park is located at the intersection of Kamehameha Hwy and Waimano Home Road. It shares an entrance with Pearl Harbor Elementary School. The park has two ball fields, a basketball court, tennis/pickleball court, and restrooms. The restrooms are open 24/7 which unfortunately has people in it for no reason at all. It just does not make it safe to use the bathroom when there are others just there. If it weren't for the bathrooms, then this place would be pretty decent. But the bathrooms bring this place down. The courts themselves are in ok. And the ball fields, while not spectacular, are decent. There are bleachers, but the ones under the trees are graffitied up. I know it sounds like I should bring the ratings down some more, but the park is usable. Parking is above the park, so be prepared to walk the stairs or take the ramp down. And for irony, the police station is right up mauka from the park, but you won't find any cops hanging around here."

Even now after returning to it for so many years the same guys run the facility...they even remember me despite the fact that I'm much older now haha.I have to admit, I do miss the old wood flooring. Although this new flooring is much less dirty!I remember there used to be a weight room, which I believe they still have. Unusual for a district park facility. Bathrooms are ok. A little dirty looking, but there are showers here & there's lots of room to change.I love how this park supports recreational leagues, local athletes & club sports--I know that even though this may not have been the place that holds the best of my memories, it will always been a familiar, somewhat nostalgic place for me.Yelp 365 Challenge: #246/365"

A lot of the parks or play structures here in Hawaii are not only old but a lot of them are dirty and covered in graffiti. I was very surprised to see that even this play structure still being very new had some tagging on it as well. Nonetheless this park is right off Moanalua leaving pearl city going toward Aiea. It has a basketball court, baseball court and the new playground which my son loved! We're spoiled with beautiful parks in Las Vegas so I was happy to see this. I hope it stays nice and clean with no graffiti but I'm sure that's asking for a lot.Review 28/100 for 2017"

There are several picnic tables, garbage cans, toilets, a basketball court and a huge grassy area for pets. There are many ducks and birds who want any food. Nice views of the ocean, palm trees and mountains. I wish there were more shade trees or a covered pavilion. It's kind of a sketchy neighborhood with beggars and homeless people around. Keep in mind:-No Lifeguard on duty so be cautious if the waves are high there can be a strong undercurrent.-No bathroom -There maybe a person living in a tent under the trees above the beach but they dont bother. -Mix of local and tourist surfers, boogie boarding and longboarding. I've been here for weddings, birthday parties, and cultural events. The scenery is what sells this place in having an event there. Wailupe Beach Park is a small little park, located kinda near the Aina Haina Fire Station (across the street). This little park has a few picnic tables, restroom, and lots of free parking in the private parking lot.Wailupe Beach park is pretty popular for the fisherman, as I see a lot of folks fishing here (day or night........doesn't matter). The park is also a great place to have a picnic, as this park is not overcrowded (as a lot of people don't know about this place). Back in da dayz, we used to hang here late at night after we played ball. It was mainly a place to hang and have a few "beverages". Nobody really bothered us.........with the exception of the cops who would come by to talk to us, because ummmmmmmm, how should I say this? When you're young, & have too much testosterone in your blood.........sometimes we would get too loud, causing someone to call da cops on us. Lucky thing for us tho, the cops would be pretty cool, and basically told us that they didn't mind da "beverages", but to keep the noise level down. Lol! Aaaaah, some fun memories from the past! Lol!It's been a very long time since I've come here, and the park hasn't changed much through the years. It's nice to see that the park is still well kept, but I did notice today that there were two portable toilets in front of the restroom. I figured it'll be me to do this justice with another review, 2 years after her's.For me and mine, this is our favorite park. On the hot summer days when you just want to stay inside the house and you don't want to go to the beach because you've been there lots and getting burnt, but want to feel the cool winds we come to Kapolei Community Park. It's a good size parking lot and we usually just drive right in. However, sometimes it can get full when there are young sports going on. Street parking is available. You can also park across the street at the library and walk over.Looking at the park from the parking lot, the restroom facilities are small but adequate and should be infront of you or to your left. To the farther right is the children's playground. To the left of the restrooms you'll find a sidewalk path that will take you further back into the park. To the left of this path is several shady trees giving cover to well maintained, soft grass. This is where we like to place our big mat. Here I can easily take a nap letting the cool breeze lull me to sleep. For some reason, most times than not, there is a good strong wind blowing through here. It might have something to do with the buildings in the area and the hills. Whatever the reason, i'm able to relax.Once my short nap is completed. The options are now endless. G will play with his RC monster truck or helicopter, M will read, I may do that too, snack on the goodies we brought, fly kites, play board games, work with G on science projects or do some of his lessons with him, have eating contests, oh yes we do and they're lots of fun even though G always wins. We'll throw ball, play MTG, talk and plan things we want to do, eat some more and just have a fun relaxing day. It's a very big park, with large wide open areas towards the back. You want to be careful if you go way in the back where activities can occur that may not be welcomed. Other than that, I feel very safe there and have come there many times on my own to read or work on projects. The summer is starting to come around the corner, you can find us there on most lazy days."

The last thing I need is to get a fine for taking driftwood, and getting arrested! Lol!Where is Kaiaka Bay Beach Park?Well, best way to describe it is..................it's about a 1/2 mile down the road from Haleiwa Beach Park. Kaiaka Bay Beach park appears to be less busy then the Haleiwa Beach park, and the the day I came here I saw a few folks jogging/walking along the park, as well as seeing people fishing, surfers coming up from the beach from a morning surf session, and folks bringing their doggies here to run the path trails of the park.I basically came here to help my friend look for some driftwood, as she is a craft hobbyist. We were able to find a special spot on this beach where it was pretty secluded, but the special spot was LOADED with all types of driftwood! Besides finding drift wood, I was also able to capture some wonderful morning pics! (Check 'em out gang!)The only thing I found bad about this place was when I was helping my friend rummage for some driftwood, I did find trash here & there, and even found a hypodermic needle in the sand. Be careful gang when walking on the sand & looking for driftwood.............don't go barefoot. To to be safe...........please wear shoes (like I did today!).Overall, still a nice looking beach park.............not too busy here, as I suspect more locals probably come here over the tourist.Looking for a nice quite beach to hang out.............give Kaiaka Bay Beach Park a try!"

Of note is that the public facilities had both toilet paper and hand soap, which I considered both surprising and welcome. It's alittle littered, but it's the kids so you couldn't expect much different. I'll return on a semi weekly basis simply for the boarding.. Unfortunately it doesn't have a drainage pipe so when it rains you're SOL. Safety equipment is not mandatory, though keep in mind that not wearing it is not the best example for the kids. I don't wear it so I try to get there when is empty.. That's not as hard as it may seem, it's in an area where it's kinda flat and they can go elsewhere. Sandy Beach Park

Jo Y. "Sandy Beach, aka Sandy's or its Hawaiian name, Wawamalu, is on the south central shores of Oahu. It has excellent body boarding and body surfing due to its peaky shore breaks. It is also infamously known for many spinal cord injuries occurring during high surf, when powerful waves break over shallow sand and slabs of underwater lava rocks and hence, aka Break Neck Beach.Located half way between Hanauma Bay Nature Preserve and Makapuu Lookout, Sandy's is a beautiful white sandy beach that is great for watching early sunrise from the east and body boarding/surfing activities. Yes, former President Barack Obama declared it as one of his favorite beaches, and although there was a move to rename the beach to President Barack Obama Sandy Beach Park, public opposition did not allow the new name.As we live about a mile away from this beach, it was always a popular hang-out spot for our kids (who are now adults and have their own families) and their friends. Yes, this is where they learned how to body board and body surf and certainly not a good beach to learn how to swim due to its high surf, strong shore breaks, and powerful currents. And no, they were not allowed to be at the beach as long as it was a school day. With the annual Kaiser High School's Project Grad, the graduating seniors would leave by bus at the end of Friday evening's graduation ceremony for varied surprised activities in promoting safe, adult supervised drug-alcohol free environment. After the all-night agenda, their last stop on Saturday morning would be at Sandy's to watch the sunrise. Parents would congregate there to pick them up for their Saturday sleep-in at home.As you drive into the parking lot, prime parking is on the left side where the vast sandy beach lies. It is common on a weekend or a holiday that there is a lack of available parking. However, as you drive further along in the park, parking spaces become available due to the rockiness of the shoreline. It is common to see tour bus drivers drop off their bus loads of people at the far end of the park, where they will gladly walk past the grassy area of the park and over the rocky shoreline to explore what's in the shallow waters. Sandy's was also the place to take our kids kite flying due to the lack of electrical poles/wires in the park. And it was a convenient place to just watch the waves rolling in with body surfers just having fun.Restrooms, showers, and lifeguards available on site.Sandy Beach will always be a part of the sweet memories that our family grew up with. And it's a beach park that never changes, but families do. Sandy's will be the joy to the next family with the same memories for years to come!"

"My son has been on a beach-combing kick lately, so we've been driving around to a few beaches looking for bits of shells, rocks, sea creatures and what not.I cannot believe that I've never been here before and I live here!I'm guessing this place was a garbage dump back in the old days as evidenced by the interesting rock features consisting of concrete with embedded car parts, old pottery, glass and ancient rubbish.DIRECTIONS: - take Sand Island Access Road and follow it until it ends.- drive into the park and follow the road til the very end. I wasn't sure and parked in the wrong location that lead me to an area without the sandy beach.HIGHLIGHTS:- really is beautiful, if you can get past the fact that there are a lot of scary-looking people around.- there was a cop car patrolling the camp sites, which made me feel a little better.- lots and lots of parking in the farthest end, near the beach.- relatively empty on weekdays and lots of parking on weekends too, in the far lot.- bathrooms and outdoor showers; I haven't been in them but see them off to the distance.- small tide pools with crystal-clear water with critters in them. We saw some fish and rock gobies.- lots of things to pick through on this beach; no mechanical sand-sifters combing out the trash here; you can find ancient bits of spark plugs, pottery shards and flotsam embedded in the rocks.LOWLIGHTS:- yes, it is dusty. If you go on a windy day, be prepared for some dust action until you reach the beach.- scary looking people hanging around the park (eyeing your car, hanging out in groups and congregating in "no parking zones", eyeing you as you walk by) and I am not talking about the homeless, who'd rather be in the shadows, minding their own business. I was so paranoid I took the car registration out of the glove compartment box and put it my purse so they wouldn't break into my car and take the car to my home address...- lots of broken glass, and I am not talking about sea glass. Wear foot protection.I hear that if you keep walking to the farthest ends of the beach you will encounter nude people. We obviously didn't go that far."

Dogs are allowed, I'm assuming for a short game of fetch on the grass or on the hiking trail. I saw no signs displayed telling you your dog must be on a leash. There are nice restroom facilities that are clean and not abused. The entire park is well maintained. But that's exactly the random train of thought that living in a one-playground town like Makakilo will provide. There's simply not much to do here, high in the hills on Oahu's leeward side, except chill out in the yard and think of things like tropical fruit and, perhaps, what gecko noises might truly mean. Sure, you could pass the time by stalking the local ice cream truck, recognizable from that jingling tune that's half creepy (I hate you, Stephen King). Or, if it's a Sunday afternoon, you could weasel in with the neighbors for a barbecue in a nearby cul-de-sac. Makakilo Community Park is the heart of the town, with its basketball and tennis courts, activities center, wide open field and a playground that seems to be updated every few years. Lofa L. "If you need a grassy area or just some outdoor activity Kipapa Park got all the normal park amenities. Grass. Trees. Baseball field. Basketball court. Jungle gym. Trees. And a bathroom. If you were in the area and wanted a picnic or just some family time then Kipapa Park might be the spot for you. Parking on the street should accommodate park users. Unsure about the rule about bringing dogs or pets but it is Mililani and they are kinda anal about pets and what not. Kid friendly for sure. Might as well make use of the nice area."

Jessica Y. "What's not to love about a park located in urban Honolulu? McCully District Park is a treasure for this neighborhood. Conveniently located in the heart of McCully, and neighbors with Lunalilo Elementary School, this tiny park is home to an indoor gym, outdoor basketball court, community pool, and the former site of McCully Japanese School. Granted this is park is run by the city and county; the building is definitely dated but because of the TLC of those in the community to help maintain it, this park stands proudly and in my opinion doesn't look too shabby for being built years ago.Growing up in Honolulu, summer fun was one of those things that everyone participated in and trust me when I say I attended all of them. By far, McCully was one of my favorites--I feel like this park really helped to shape who I am today. The neighborhood nowadays is a little tougher than I remember but nonetheless this park is great in my opinion. It's a great place to get some exercise, and fresh air. Don't forget about parking! This is one of the few parks in urban Honolulu that has an adequate amount of parking stalls with its entrance located on Pumehana Street."
