Rhea A. "Sabal is one of Downtown Honolulu's hidden gems. It's located in the Topa Tower, next to Komala Curry. It has been open for a few years now owned and managed by chef Jun. He's a one man show, and his food as he explained to me, is a fusion of Japanese and Korean cuisine. The concept is simple (noodle and rice bowls), but the flavor is anything but. You begin by choosing your starch: ramen style rice or noodles, then your protein: braised pork, beef, tofu, chicken, or won tons, then you complete the bowl with your sauce of choice: spicy garlic chili oil (most popular), spicy shoyu oil, or Korean spicy sauce. I've tried all three and all are tasty, but I prefer the spicy garlic chili oil. Each bowl comes with seasoned bean sprouts, kimchi, pickled daikon, green onion, and a perfectly poached egg. My go-to is the noodle bowl with won tons. The won tons are freshly made by Chef Jun himself and they are the perfect addition to the bowl. He has added kimchi to his menu, as well as hot sauce in 10-ounce containers. The lunch line can get long, but the wait is minimal. Unfortunately, when Covid hit, a lot of Downtown food establishments shut down, and with many still working remotely, the lunch crowds aren't what they used to be. However, I'd say that Sabal is here to stay. The bowls pack a flavorful punch, and I will continue to support Chef Jun and locally owned businesses."

Add toppings such as cha shu, egg, tempura, etc.Prices range from $5.95 - $15+.Very affordable and taste very good. I have tried every single item on the menu. My favourite is the traditional daishi broth udon and I add my own add-ons. My least favourite was the tonkotsu udon, the broth was weak and not very flavourful. The place always have a line but it moves relatively fast. It's mostly self-serve. You order at the counter, pick your add on. Pay. Go grab your own cutlery and table. Eat. There is no table service. Fast paced environment. They have a loyalty program, you need to download the app. I was not able to join and take advantage of the loyalty program as I am visiting"

So this place has it.The place has a cool dining area, cozy with dim lights .It is a busy place even on weekdays so you must have a reservation all the time to get in fast .The service is professional and the food comes on time for all the dishes you order. Finally, the food is Amazzing. Full of flavors and fresh ingredients that's you don't find in other restaurants on the island .The menu is more than just an Asian food because in the menu they have American cuisine and middle eastern cuisine which it was made with love that's made me feel happy . They have a Middle East dish called lamb with hummus and side of pita bread on Arabic we call it ( hummus with lahma) you must try it.Enjoy and have a great experience with the real food ."

Rachel M. "Delicious ramen and gyoza! The parking lot is very tight--it can be a nightmare to get out if it's already full, especially if another car is also behind you (we were the "other car" in this case). We were able to find free street parking just around the corner next to the auto-spa.When you arrive, I recommend signing in on the sign in sheet in front and then waiting outside (but still in view), even if it's just yourself or two people and there are empty tables. The wait staff tend to be quite busy and this helps ensure you keep your place in line, even as other parties arrive. The menu has some interesting/unique choices but we decided to stick to something familiar since this was our first time here. We each got gyoza and black garlic ramen. Ramen comes with thin style noodles but they can use thicker style noodles upon request. The food came out quickly. The gyoza was delicious, though my husband's gyoza was definitely more crisp on the bottom than mine). Ramen was also delicious! Filling and not too much food. Sometimes at ramen places, the serving sizes are so huge and since ramen doesn't keep well as leftovers, I feel bad for wasting food. This serving size was perfect! There is also chili oil on the table in case you want a little spice to your broth, though it's very flavorful on its own.Service was attentive, despite the busy lunch crowd. From other reviews, it seems like they have a punch card but we weren't asked for one or offered one. Sounds like they have a great happy hour though!"

Jon T. "Just another gem hidden along the streets of Chinatown. Heard so many good things about Lam's Kitchen and finally made our way down. It's not a big restaurant, so plan to come a little before lunch hours to make sure you can get a seat. There were a few open tables when we arrived around 11am on a Saturday. Street parking is easy around that time on Pauahi as well. We also noticed a LOT of takeout orders, if that sounds easier for you.The aunties are brisk but polite. Choose from a large selection of fresh look fun (like super soft chow funn) dishes, rice porridge (chinese style juk), or rice plates. Make sure you get a side of chinese donut with anything soupy and give it a good dip - so ono. - Beef Rice Soup ($10.50) - Savory porridge, grainier than Korean juk and different spices. If you like juk, this is definitely worth trying. Massive serving with lots of beef, definitely want to try some different proteins next time. - Duck Look Fun in Soup ($11.99) - Easily the star of the show. Big chonks of juicy braised duck, atop tender bokchoi and a mountain of fresh, soft look fun. Considering prices for a bowl of fresh noodles these days, this is an absolute steal. - Beef w/ Black Bean Sauce Chow Fun ($13.50) - Bursting with savory black bean flavor and adorned with large, tender cuts of beef. The serving feels a little underwhelming compared to the look fun in soup, and costs a little more. Chinese Donut Stick ($3/order) - Please get a side of this to dip in your soup! It's comes cut into manageable bites, and is so delicious when carrying a broth. So fresh, delicious, and affordable. I can't believe this place has been around for so long and we just tried it! As they say, better late than never."

Trust me on this, I always get one. There are other goodies in there, so take a look. You can get a 2, 3 or 4 item plate. I almost always get the 2 item plus soup and add the drink. Noodles or rice are automatically included and don't count as an item. Most people get half rice, half noodles. I get noodles only. The menu changes daily. Eggplant, bean curd, spring rolls, curry, mixed vegetables, etc. They're all good, but I especially like the bean curd and curries. They also have fruit or dessert a lot of times at the register. Tap to pay, or cash.Their is a restroom in the back on the left. And a temple upstairs. Yes, an actual temple for worship. I think the monks help prepare the food and it's all ladies serving. Take this with a grain of salt but a lot of restaurants don't tend to really work on the quality of taste, but of course the food is still what you expected and what can fill your stomach. With that being said, it's the service. The service is what makes a client like myself and my family come.. to the point that extra service is being done to my son. Amazing people that takes good care of the person paying but more so the people surrounding the table. I go for taste buds and the flavor - quality, but if your service is amazing.. you'll see me if you only serve 1 type of food. Thank you Ewa Beach ramen Ya for taking care of my families, and especially my wife and son. PS, if I have to pick a food, I'd pick the combo A or B meal. Paul C. "***4.5 STARS***I enjoy spicy food but have noticed my heat tolerance levels aren't as high like before. Perhaps, I'm often dining with my family where favorite niece and nephew by default can both pack a punch. I don't think I could have handled the kiddies' spice levels when I was at their age. Favorite niece by default graduated from medical school last month and she chose the graduation dinner venue: Chengdu Taste (CT), a Szechuan restaurant chain that hails from Southern California that had been under my radar for quite some time now. Located on the 2F of 808 Center, I've often passed CT when I patronize my go to sushi restaurant which is on the 3F of 808 Center. I've witnessed many Chinese speaking patrons come here and in my books, that's a good sign of my the cuisine's authenticity. CT has been at 808 Center (1F) since 2016 and relocated to 2F location since Feb 2019, with sister restaurant Mian taking over the 1F spot. Upon entry, I was impressed with the upbeat ambiance with bright lighting and bold colors in decor. Staff greeted me and led me to our table as one of my family members arrived first. Great first impression. Favorite niece and nephew have been to CT before so they took lead with ordering. My sister and I also added a couple of dishes that were appealing. Food order is submitted via QR code and our wait didn't seem long as we were discussing the graduation ceremony. As expected, the food here at CT is overall spicy but there are some dishes without heat so reach out to the staff for suggestions. Crowd favorites were the beancurd sheets in scallion sauce, bo bo chicken, Szechuan noodles dan dan style and the toothpick lamb in cumin. The kiddies really enjoyed the mao xue wang, a stewed dish of assorted "pig parts" with some Spam in the numbing mala and spicy sauce. Just not my thing. On the contrary, family didn't care for the spareribs with pineapple sauce but I thoroughly enjoyed this. Perhaps it helped cool down my mouth after sampling a whole bunch of spicy foods. For dessert we got the fried bun with condensed milk. It was delivered to our table hot and fresh where it was easily gobbled up. We were sadly disappointed with the mung bean jelly with spicy sauce and the spring onion chicken in pepper sauce. They both fell flat. The Chengdu fried rice and Szechuan duck were just okay for us. Probably won't be ordering them again. Service was above average for a Chinese restaurant, where I usually lower my standards. The restaurant was quite busy but staff were friendly and attentive, and provided us with takeout containers for our leftovers. Overall, a positive first experience at CT where I'd be game for a return visit. There are other things on the menu that I'd like to explore. The prices here at CT are reasonable and with decent portions."

Jon C. "As the "other" look funn factory in Honolulu, Family is my first choice for fresh plain look funn noodles, and look funn rolls. It is a small shop located a little ewa of kekaulike market on N. Hotel Street (almost to River Street) on the makai side of the road. I am unsure of their hours but most days they are closed and have sold out by 12:00 p.m. I think many of their orders are for restaurants which buy their noodles to make their dishes. They offer plain look funn (I believe $1/lbs which is a lot) as well as rolls of look funn with specks of char siu or shrimp (70 cents a roll). Can't go wrong with these prices. I have tried Ying Leong Look Funn Factory, located in Kekaulike Market, and honestly I can't tell the difference between the two. All I know is they are fresh, have that springy chewiness while being soft. This is unlike the refrigerated type you buy at the supermarket. I believe Ying Leong is pricier. So for the non-negligible difference in taste, the "Chinese" in mean always goes to Family if I can.I usually buy a lbs of plain look funn which I eat fresh with some char siu or roast pork I buy at Nam Fong and some fresh choy sum from Chinatown. Super awesome meal and usually comes in waaaay under $10.The employees do not speak much English so you have to point to what you want sometimes. It is hot and steamy inside (it's a factory, imagine having to work there at 2:00 a.m.!!!) and CASH only. If you are in the mood for fresh look funn for your stir-fry, chow funn, or plain with sweet shoyu, this is the PLACE!!!"

Berneta A. "This place is the spot for saimin, hands down, no contest. Every time I'm on the mainland hunting for good ramen, this is what I'm craving but can never find. Too bad they don't have a location up there they'd absolutely kill it in the winter. This is one of the last true old school saimin spots standing and has been a cornerstone of the Kalihi food scene for generations. There aren't many places I actually remember eating at as a little kid, but this is one of them. And honestly it hasn't changed in decades, and that's a good thing. Still the same layout, same menu on the wall, still only about eight tables and five parking spots, and the aunties working here? Still rocking those warm smiles while making sure tables turn over fast. The saimin? Still legendary. The noodles have that perfect chewiness, the broth and diced char siu are magic, and the beef sticks? They got better over time and thicker....just tender, flavorful beef with zero fat nonsense. But this is one of those places where the saimin is best eaten fresh at the table. Something about the steam, freshness of the noodles, and the broth just hits different when you're sitting there.Pro tip - go past lunch (2-3 pm) or early because parking is a battle (with only five spots) and seating is super limited. But it's worth the effort. My husband declared his won ton min the best ever, and honestly, I can't argue with him. And let's talk price, $8 for a large saimin? In this economy with this inflation? Seems like a steal. I'm just grateful this place has survived until now, serving up the same Saimin I grew up on."

Jennifer S. "Look, this isn't fancy ramen by any stretch, but it has a few things going for it:- close to home- solid value- quick takeoutand perhaps most importantly,- my picky kid LOVES itWe almost always get takeaway and opt for the Combo A or B for $16. They've raised the prices a bit in recent years, but haven't changed the portion sizes - still plenty food. We almost always get the Combo A, which has a small ramen, 4 gyoza, and a choice from a limited menu (like fried rice, mochiko chicken, a couple katsu curries, beef stew). That side item can be a meal in itself. When my keiki was smaller, we could split one of those combos between the two of us - now he winds up downing all the ramen himself and half of another. The ramen comes with broth and a separate container for the noodles, kamaboko slice, green onions, and a slice of pork. Chicken katsu curry comes over white rice, and IIRC, the mochiko chicken comes with mac salad and white rice but I usually opt for the katsu so it's been a while. They're also fast for takeaway. There are a limited number of tables (5? four-tops) but I can call my order in from Mililani, get in the car, and it's ready when I get to Laniakea Plaza in about 10-12 minutes.Parking is tight. There are a good number of spaces, but they can fill up at meal times because there are several eateries that share the lot, plus the angles of the parking rows and entrance/exit can make it difficult to get into some spaces."
