Quijana B. "When your friends tell you that they have a favorite restaurant, meet them there! The first time we joined our friends to try out a New Mexican restaurant in Kapolei they sat down and said "We hope this place is as good as El Mariachi, which is our favorite Mexican restaurant." It was not as good. We then spent more than a year meeting them at other restaurants, and halfway through each meal someone would mention El Mariachi. I truly wish we'd met them there earlier than we did, because I'd have had so many more meals at this quiet family friendly restaurant!I ordered a fish dish with garlic and mushrooms. as it authentic Mexican? Dunno. What I do know is that the fish was perfectly cooked, the spices were on point, and the portions were generous. I also know that the choices my table mates made also looked really good. I don't know what they were, because I was really busy enjoying my own meal. The salsa was thin but filled with flavor, and the chips were nice and crunchy. Did we have fried ice cream at the end of our meal? NO, because we were too full, but I'll get it next time for sure!Service was friendly and fast, and our friends were welcomed with huge smiles and waves. I loved the chance to try their favorite place, and was so happy to be able to add it to my favorites list as well. If you are looking for Mexican food on the Leeward side you'll do well to come here before you go to any of the other flashier places nearby."

Sage N. "808 Mangonadas answered my prayers!!! I would have dreams about delicious mango sorbet, drowned in chamoya sauce, drizzled with Mexican cream. But this is Hawaii and that's very rare to find, slowly I am starting to see Mexican cuisine pop up, but it's a slow run. You can choose from large to small, if you don't want mango sorbet you can choose pineapple or strawberry. I chose mango sorbet with chamoy and cream mixed, my boyfriend got mango sorbet with Li-Hing sauce, both topped off with Mexican candy straw! The sweetness of the real fruit mango with the sour chamoy sauce, they can also add two different sauces for you so you can get more flavor! Catch them on Friday's in front of Barrio Cafe where you can pair them with tacos on taco Friday l, or follow their Instagram to see which market they will head to!"

"Still one of the great local family owned Mexican food joints on Oahu's east side. For me, I think I'm a regular, I've always had great service and welcomed with a warm greeting and friendly smile. Food is good and service is very good. Complete bar with most of the Mexican beverages you'll need. For us, we prefer Hornitos tequila that they don't seem to be able to get oft but many other are available. While I really don't go out for good Mexican or Tex-Mex food, we know how and make our own very good Tex-Mex food at home, I really do think their pork chops are the best locally for the price and flavor. If you're not sure what you want and the others in your group want Tex-Mex, go and order the pork chops. You will not regret your decision.Dickie and Freddie, the owners come by and do spend time at their place to check up on things. I paid them a visit yesterday and it being my 4th visit in the last 6 months. Everything has seemed to decline. The meats are so dry ( Al Pastor & Barbacoa) and almost flavorless, limes given had no juice, the beans were basically water. I had to mix the rice in to give it some kind of texture or it would be considered soup. The service has been so-so It used to just be the Owners, who were the sweetest. Then they hired kinda random workers that came and went, wasn't the friendliest but it wasn't "cold" either. One time the girl forgot to put in my order and I was the only one there so I waited about 20mins. The prices have increased noticeably, much like everything on our lil island.. so it's not much of a complaint. What bothers me is their math! What do I mean you may ask? the last 3 out of 4 visits if I didn't pre-add everything in my head, they woulda overcharged me significantly!I brought my friend for lunch and we ordered 4 tacos and 2 Jarritos. So what should of been around $20 give or take, homegirl deadass looked me in the eyes and said $36 -_- whet? honest mistake I guess?.. Yesterday, my total should have been $26, I was told my total was $36. This is by a completely different worker. I'm not saying or accusing them but just pay attention to your total. Sunday is my only day off, I'm not trying to really think and double check peoples calculations."

We started with the braised beef and it was so tender and flavorful it was paired with beans homemade chips and corn rice which was great on its own . The service and servers were 10/10 great personalities and so happy. We were also lucky enough to taste their pumpkin horchata and they did not miss the assignment it was probably the best horchata I ever had ! The music is subtle and not overwhelming and they actually fit a great amount of people inside but they provide outside seating as well . The chef was hospitable and they were pushing plates out with no hesitation . We got they have an amazing cactus sorbet which is such a great way to finish a meal . My husband ordered the classic burger with fries, a side of fries for the kids, and I ordered the loaded Hot dog. Our total came out to a little over $30, and it wasn't at all worth it. I work in the food industry and know how much it can cost to buy and make food and what not, but this was unbelievable. We could have gotten a burger at McDonald's or something and it would have been cheaper and tastier. The hot dog was the smallest size hot dog in the market, and they charged $10! Even with mustard, mayo, 1 piece of bacon, and onions, it was definitely not worth it. I can't even explain how upset we were. We definitely will not be back here."

Set my sights on ordering one Asada Taco and an Al Pastor Taco. Corn tortillas were prepared just right! Not crunchy, not soggy. Each taco costs $3. Paid $6 altogether which was worth every single dollar spent. Very grateful for courteous and efficient customer service. Asada Taco came with two soft corn tortillas complete with diced beef, spices, seasonings, diced onions, and cilantro. Al Pastor had one soft corn tortilla with diced pork, spices, seasonings, diced onions, and cilantro. Squeezed some salsa rojas and lime in both tacos. Wow! Asada and al pastor cooked to perfection, tasted moist, tender, and delicious! Super yummy and not oily. Salsa rojas delivered a thick consistency and added a spicy kick to perfect tacos! As we're leaving, we saw our cousin and she told us she ate the burrito which tasted so good! There's free parking in Mililani H.S. parking lot. I would do it all over again next time and try burrito, quesadilla, tortas or specials. Definitely get your monies worth. Few selection of entrees are worth top quality versus lots of quantity."

They are located in the only permanent individual structure in fromt of the tower. When I went there was only a special event menu (pic) so I am not sure what their selections and prices are when their is no event. Special event selections was the usual mexican fare anywhere and pretty much everything was $10.00. I went with their 2 tacos ($10). It consisted of two decent sized stuffed tacos (steak avocado onion) and it came with guacomoli - salsa and some kind of spicy sauce (all in seperate containers) and it even came with tortilla chips on the side...Everything was meticulously put together and prepared and was "onos"!! Quality ingredients put together with love. I believe they would normally have chairs tables and umbrellas (hence "cafe" in name) ... We came on a Saturday night during Happy Hour where it was quite slow but once 6 pm hit, the rush came in. No reservations however there are plenty of seats. The menu is pretty much the same throughout all Mexican restaurants on the island. We ordered some items from the happy hour menu, their fajitas, and horchatas. The horchatas do not disappoint! It had the perfect amount of sweetness and cinnamon. Maybe it was an off night but service was really slow and we barely got checked on. Lyla D. "Burgers + Burritos = Happiness!!!During several foraging visits at the Honolulu Farmers Market, we have passed by Burgers & Burritos Hawaii (BBHI) as aromas of their fresh grilling hamburgers or toasting flour tortillas would fill the air. We've passed by enough times to have "studied" their menu so that we could decisively order once we patiently waited in line for our turn. We'd watch the female worker who worked as an order taker, cashier, and plate prep while the male worker focused his grilling skills on the plancha (similar to a flat top griddle). This food stall definitely gets busy as we've seen and been in lines of 10-deep. There was something in the back of my mind that told me that I had either read or heard about BBHI before and sure enough, Yelp Bud Fran C wrote an effusive review about BBHI in April 2020.Their burger menu offers 4 different styles: Classic, Hawaiian, Specialty, or Portabello. BBHI also offers an Island-style Sonoran Dog which is an all-beef hot dog wrapped in bacon and grilled and topped with onions, bell peppers, and roasted garlic aïoli. I didn't ask what qualifies this dish as "Island-style" but I'm assuming that it's because it's NOT your typical Sonoran dog that is served with beans, tomatoes, onions, jalapeño sauce, and mayonnaise. As good as these burgers and Sonoran dog looked, we came to BBHI for their LA-inspired taqueria Mexican food. Oh, how I looked forward to having my taste buds tickled with Cal-Mex specialties. So, we ordered the following items.-Chile Verde Plate: The menu described this dish as braised tender pork chunks in their homemade green chile sauce (Chile Verde). The Chile Verde is served as a choice of either burrito-style or on a plate with rice and black beans. Condiments on this plate were dollops of guacamole and sour cream or was it crema (Mexican sour cream)? Indeed, this chile Verde made from tomatillos, poblanos, and jalapeños had some spice kick but was easily mellowed by the crema. I rolled some of the flavorful pork chile Verde into the steaming hot street taco corn tortillas and found myself wanting another 2 more tortillas to sop up the sauce. This takeout plate was generously portioned and I still got full even though I shared it with my husband. $11.-Quesadilla with Meat: My husband chose chicken meat from among beef, pork, and chicken to fill this quesadilla. The flour tortilla quesadilla was loaded with pico de gallo and lots of cheese. There were dollops of guacamole and crema to complement the quesadilla. My husband asked for a couple of containers of red salsa to accompany his quesadilla. He warned me that the red salsa was spicier than the chile Verde which I had already found out about after dipping a piece of chicken from a quesadilla and feeling the chile burn in my throat. $10The menu items at BBHI are limited but are flavorful and really remind me of LA's Guisado's or Roast-To-Go. Prices are reasonable for the fresh made-to-order food and the service is friendly. We'd gladly return to try more of their Cal-Mex offerings or if we're in the mood for a burger, their Classic cheeseburger looks quite appetizing. We'll be back again since both burgers and burritos DO make us Happy!"

Yep I used to stuff my face after work past midnight. Lol well the hubs had to do a few errands on base and it was past lunchtime. That means we are grabbing food somewhere. He mentioned that he ate a few tacos sold out of a little shack, and thought I would like to try it out. I perused the short menu and opted for the chicken burrito plate. It came with a side of rice and refried beans. Our order was ready within 5-10 minutes. I poured some hot sauce over it and we both brought it home to devour. The presentation was standard nothing fancy. My initial reaction when I took a bite out of the burrito was that it was ok. It was filling since the meal consisted of a lot of starch from the tortilla. I thought there was lack of chicken and more filling of the rice. Unfortunately, the side of rice and beans were bland. Maybe we came on a off day. I wouldn't mind trying again. :)"

This little corner property at the corner of Piikoi and Kapiolani has resisted change and gives you a glimpse of what the surrounding Ala Moana Center area was once like- before the high-rise bldgs started to dominate the neighborhood. Parking is basically on the street. They are currently takeout, but hoping to do indoor dining again. I would stop by for a bite to eat when I had lunch with working friends when my appointments were downtown. The authenticity of the food could be challenged but this pretty much holds true for so many restaurants. Many restaurants make the motherland dishes with a pinch of large local touch. What I do know, the foos is enjoyable and the service great. Our go.to orders are the chicken enchilada and chili relleno plates. The sauces are on the mild side which is how we like it but they will spice it up upon request. Although the chips/salsa is not included the cost is reasonable and the serving pretty generous. This is definitely a place we enjoy getting take out from and it's a short walk from Ala Moana shopping center.
