Andy L. "This was unexpected but stopping here for lunch on a weekday is a great idea. The food is pretty darn good - I would say better than several hotel Restaraunts, who charge you more for less quality in food. I've yet to find a brewery with food that isn't really tasty and Maui Brewing Co. didn't disappoint at all. Our pizza was delicious and the beer flight was also really good. The highlight was of course the beer. A nice surprise was the mai tai! - who knew Maui Brewing Co knew how to make a nice cocktail. But yes - lunch is a good time to come here as it will be very busy during happy hour and dinner. I'm a bit over the loud party scene anyway but I'm still into drinking nice beer - so if you're on the same wave length of having a chill beer on your vacation with good food - check this place out!"

Lori L. "I have a sweet tooth, so I have always loved the M-side of MW. Artizen cookie bar? Already added to the calendar. All you can eat MW candy bars at Food & Wine? How many times is too many times to get in line? Asking for a friend.I don't always think of the W-side of MW, but I should. We recently went back for dinner with friends and here are the notes. Do try the arancini. Light, crispy, with the scent of truffles. This is a nice appetizer. The corn chowder was less exciting and served just barely warm. The entrees are classic bistro favorites, the King Salmon had a soft, melt in your mouth texture and was served with a generous amount of beurre blanc. The braised short ribs are fork tender with a rich truffle sauce and foie gras. And the Steak Au Poivre was better than some steakhouses. The steak had a deep beef flavor, had a nice sear, and the sauce was heavily seasoned--I would suggest getting the sauce on the side.We finally made it to dessert and coffee--French press of course--and why stop at just one? Michelle's signature dessert, the brûlée is a fun mix of textures, the crispy burnt sugar balancing out the tangy lilikoi. The tiramisu is the coffee version of the brûlée with the same brûléed top and the same textures of pearls, cream, and jellies. The MW candy bar is perfect if you like chocolate and peanut butter. Lightly crisp and so indulgent. Strawberry Napoleon is puff pastry, strawberries, ume and shiso sorbet, it's crunchy and refreshing. We enjoyed ourselves and it reminded me MW is still a lovely way to wile away an evening."

We got food for 2 for 4-5 meals for $50. + Food: Miso soup: 10/10. So flavorful with plenty of veggies. All the other musubis are great and generous on fillings. My favorite was the unagi avocado. + Atmosphere: Service is great and quick and they're all very nice. They don't have seatings so it's a to-go spot. I saw a microwave that I assume you can heat you food up with."

Mike M. "Randomly walked in here on a week night and I'm so glad I did.Once we got in, we were immediately welcomed by Bridgette in the front who is a part of this family owned business. So welcoming and easy going. We opted for a combination plate of Pastele Stew and Squid Luau and an Ala cart of their Chicken Long Rice for our kids. Edna, one of the cooks in the back brought our food out with a complimentary side of their house fried rice. The fried rice had pieces of their smoked meat, spam and Portuguese sausage. So tasty, something we will definitely order next visit!Talk about first impressions, what got our attention immediately was the generous portions of food! Take a look at my photos and you'll see that combination plates traditionally aren't that big Everything was flavorful and you could taste the pride in this family owned business. Traditionally Hawaiian food isn't cheap because of the time it takes to make it and the ingredients aren't cheap either. Yet I firmly believe their prices were VERY affordable and their portions again are very generous. Also, Hawaiian Food and "Hawaiian" BBQ are two totally different things. So comparing prices between the two is like comparing apples and oranges. You truly feel the aloha in this family owned business and taste in their food. My family felt so cozy being there and look forward to our next visit. If you want a legit taste of reasonably priced traditional Hawaiian food served with aloha, come by and visit this family. You will not be disappointed. You'll end up feeling like a part of their ohana like we did."

As a family of 3 with a toddler we wanted to beat the dinner rush so we went at 5:30PM and there was no wait. They even have kids books and a table with toys there which was a major plus for me as a mom (in case we did have to wait). We ordered the chicken lau lau combo and Kalua pig combo. We made both our meals super combos for an extra price for an additional portion. My husband got the chicken long rice & I got more kalua pig to share with our little one. All the food hit the spot!!However the main reason we came to Highway Inn was for the HAUPIAAAAA. We've had it before at the town location and loved the thick coconutty dessert & couldn't wait to come back for more! Waipahu location has its own shared lot with UPS store."

Donna L. "A friend and I were going for happy hour and for a new place to try, I chose Olili. We love trying new places in Waikiki within walking distance and Olili was pretty perfect because it's just a couple blocks from our condos and that night we were venturing out during a storm. We arrived dripping wet and our waitress let us sit in a nice booth by the window where we could watch the storm go by and roomy enough so we could hang our wet stuff without bothering anyone. The table was big and the bench seats were quite comfy. We lingered for a couple hours, had a couple drinks, and enjoyed a couple dishes each. During that time, we received tons of service and in addition to our main server and runner, 2 additional staff came by to greet us and offer to help. Afterwards, outside the shop, we ran into one server and he said hi to us.My friend had the liliko martini, duck croquette, and bone marrow. She loved the drink, thought the croquette had too much potato and not enough duck, and she loved the bone marrow dish. I had a draft beer, kanpachi crudo, and bowl of mushroom soup. The beer was nice and cold and served in an interestingly shaped glass, the crudo was beautiful and delicious, but there was not very much actual food. The soup with baguette was a good serving size, tasty and well prepared. The chunks of breadfruit and mushrooms added extra texture. I would've liked at least a few slices of a higher-end mushroom like shitake or oyster to make the dish feel more luxurious, rather than just the standard grocery store variety white and cremini. We'll be back. Tip. It's easy to make reservations online and it seems like they don't block-out preferred time slots."

If you're on vacation then one of those places will probably deliver the experience you want like knock your socks off unique dishes, and special pancakes with all the tropical sauces, etc.But for locals, I just don't want to pay an arm and a leg to get solid tasty food. Hannara is that dependable, tasty diner food where they have a huge menu, booths, and super friendly service. The food comes out super hot and cooked to however you like. For breakfast, their Banana pancakes were honestly better than many national chains. Best part is that everything was reasonably priced $12 for my hotcakes combo plate, same for burger and fries. Seriously, they've perfected the garlic flavor--it's like they've bottled happiness and served it on a plate. Over the years, their spicy garlic chicken has become my undeniable favorite--it's got that perfect kick and flavor that keeps me coming back for more. And the generous portions? Let's just say one plate is a two-for-one deal. Meal now, meal later. Winning. And let me tell you, I never touch mac salad, like, ever. But somehow, Sugoi's managed to convert me. It's tastier, creamier, and just...better. I'll happily fork it down here. Other honorable mentions? Their salmon, mahi, and chicken katsu. It's a buffet of greatness. The only downside? Waging war with the chaos that is Dillingham Boulevard thanks to the rail construction. But hey, for that spicy garlic chicken fix? I'd brave a traffic apocalypse."

Palace Saimin

Berneta A. "This place is the spot for saimin, hands down, no contest. Every time I'm on the mainland hunting for good ramen, this is what I'm craving but can never find. Too bad they don't have a location up there they'd absolutely kill it in the winter. This is one of the last true old school saimin spots standing and has been a cornerstone of the Kalihi food scene for generations. There aren't many places I actually remember eating at as a little kid, but this is one of them. And honestly it hasn't changed in decades, and that's a good thing. Still the same layout, same menu on the wall, still only about eight tables and five parking spots, and the aunties working here? Still rocking those warm smiles while making sure tables turn over fast. The saimin? Still legendary. The noodles have that perfect chewiness, the broth and diced char siu are magic, and the beef sticks? They got better over time and thicker....just tender, flavorful beef with zero fat nonsense. But this is one of those places where the saimin is best eaten fresh at the table. Something about the steam, freshness of the noodles, and the broth just hits different when you're sitting there.Pro tip - go past lunch (2-3 pm) or early because parking is a battle (with only five spots) and seating is super limited. But it's worth the effort. My husband declared his won ton min the best ever, and honestly, I can't argue with him. And let's talk price, $8 for a large saimin? In this economy with this inflation? Seems like a steal. I'm just grateful this place has survived until now, serving up the same Saimin I grew up on."

Steve A. "Came to this bar and grill in Waikiki for happy hour. Deck is located conveniently close to some of the hotels and other fun stuff. It has better drinks than food but it's still good for dinner though. Can get expensive which is the only bad thing about it. That's why you come later and you can save a lot. A lot of things to get on the menu even at breakfast. It's got classics like eggs Benedict and that kind of stuff. The best time is later though. Be sure to get here at happy hour. Plays tricks with the times. It's got drinks 2 to 6, and food 4 to 6, which means get both cheaper drinks and food 4 to 6. Much better prices for the cocktails at this time. It's $12 for the favorites. These include the Mai Tai and a few others. Also the Liliko'i Margarita is a good one. This is made with Casamigos tequila, Cointreau, lime, and liliko'i, which is the Hawaiian word for passionfruit. As for the food, there's a few okay choices. There's meaty options like ahi and ribs. For vegetarians there's not that much, but it makes it easier to choose. It's $6 for French Fries, and $9 for Truffle Fries. There's some more choices on the full priced menu but it's pretty expensive to be honest. Get here in the afternoon and evening. It's located at the Queen Kapi'olani. Hotel. This is okay for those staying elsewhere because it's located close to many others."

Jon K. "My wife and I were on vacation and had already been on the island for a few days. We stopped at the "original" Keneke's but they said they didn't have any garlic shrimp. We decided to continue our counter-clockwise drive around the island and stopped at this location. There was plenty of open parking on a fairly rainy Tuesday, and there weren't many other people there. We later found out that the other people there were ordering wedding food as this place does catering as well. We ordered the garlic shrimp plate with fries to split and got a couple of drinks. I have to downgrade this place by a star due to whatever mess they had going on at the drink counter. I'm not sure exactly what it was but it looked like it hadn't been thoroughly cleaned in a while. Everything else about the place seemed clean though. When the food arrived, I thought they had thrown a bunch of rice over our shrimp and fries. I soon realized it was minced garlic piled high in the plate. I thought it was delicious. My wife said it was the best meal of our 12 day vacation. I strongly recommend the food, but I hope they clean up whatever was going on at the back of the drink counter."
