Katherine A. "I always stop at this locally owned market when I visit Kailua. The historic market was built in 1932! They have a small sandwich shop in the back, a coffee station in front (serving Hawaiian coffee, of course) and convenience store items up front. I like that they carry locally made goods as well. This visit, I picked up red Hawaiian Volcanic Salt, which is hard to find. Prices were reasonable. The market is close to the beach, making it a perfect spot to grab lunch. Sandwich prices have gone up since my last visit, but the sandwiches are large and sharable. The clerks are friendly, helpful and efficient."

Sandy M. "If I could give them 100 stars, I would!!Came as they were closing. They were still able to give me what I asked for. Their food quality is amazing! Their portions are more than generous. The store front is quaint and to the point. Everything is labeled clearly and they have a very wide variety for such a small shop. I hope small businesses like this gem stay open forever!!"

Andee A. "If you're in Kaimuki and craving Saimin or Japanese food, this is a great place to go. Old-school vibes, and food is great! TBH they got a bit overwhelmed when more customers came through (there was only one server), but made up for it when things calmed down by being extra friendly, and accommodating. We had Saimin, wonton min, burgers, and bbq sticks--all delicious! Prices were great too!"

Melanie C. "Love Storto's! Would always go up to north shore to get Storto's as a treat after a beach day but now, I don't need to drive all the way up there. Same quality, huge portions, and the same pink paper wrapping we all know & love. Sandwiches taste so fresh with the veggies. I usually get the Ali'i with all the fixings and papaya seed dressing. This is the first sandwich place I've been to that uses papaya seed dressing and it got me hooked for a while! Wait can be a bit long but the workers are so nice, it's worth it. You can definitely have two meals with such a humongous sandwich!"

Olivier E. "Who doesn't love a good Okazuya. My coworkers and I decided to get lunch here for the office since we could get a little of everything for everyone to enjoy. We decided to order a couple of days ahead just to make sure that they were able to accommodate our order. We placed the order for pickup for around 12pm and when I arrived to pick up our order at around 11:45, it was already ready and boxed up neatly. I believe there's parking in the back of the building, but if you're lucky, there's street parking right in front the building. I was able to park right in front and load the box of food in my car with ease. One of the workers was even nice enough to hold the door for me and open my car door! The prices here are reasonable compared to other okazuya joints around town, but just make sure you order from an updated menu and not one that we used from 2017 as prices went up from then. Lol. I've come here before to grab breakfast and and average price point would probably be $15-$25 per visit for one person, but knowing it's an okazuya joint, your total can add up the more you order. You can call their food comfort food as it just hits the spot whenever you're craving on the go food. A few dishes we got were the cone sushi, their shoyu hot dog, mochiko chicken and teriyaki hamburgers to name a few. Each were just like eating your grandmas homemade after school meals. The inside of the restaurant also reminders me of the coziness of being in my grandma's living room. Being a mom and pop shop, I know how much love the owners put into make their dishes. So if you're ever feeling for some comfort okazuya dishes near the downtown Honolulu area, definitely check Nuuanu Okazuya to fill those cravings!"

The service was super friendly, they have cute little tables out front. Our food and smoothies arrived quickly and everything was absolutely wonderful. We'll definitely be back!"

Aloha Sub Downtown Deli & Sandwiches

Aloha Sub Downtown Deli & Sandwiches

Dathan C. "I do love me my sandwiches and downtown Honolulu has a swarm of them, from Subway, Storto's, Humu Deli, and many others. Aloha Sub joins the sandwich lunch fray with fresh meats, breads, and cheeses. One thing that seems to differentiate them from the rest is the use of fresh avocado. Located on the street on Alakea, they offered made to order cold sandwiches with Hawaii theme, mostly surf related names. My friend and I stopped by for lunch one day, getting half a cloud break, which consisted of turkey, ham and roast beef (yes, that's the same thing I get at Storto's, stop memorizing my food choices Yelp audience!), and my friend got the yokohama, which includes ham, turkey, and pastrami. Like other sandwich, you can customize with all sorts of cheese and dressings. They do offer papaya seed dressing and rye bread, both fairly unusual for a downtown sandwich shop. The meats were good, the veggies were fresh and crisp, and the dressing was balanced. The bread was a bit dry, but that might simply because it's rye.Staff are polite, but they seemed understaffed for the number of orders they were receiving. Parking as always is a crapshoot downtown, but their market is definitely the downtown office worker. So if you're a sandwich head like me, give them a try to compare to the rest. No public bathrooms.3.5 stars"

K M. "I just realized St. Louis Drive in has a okazuya side. It's on the left of the drive in. Food and service is excellent. Gotta go early because they sell out of some stuff fast. They are open Wednesday - Saturday 7am-1pm or until the food runs out. That day we got there around 11:00 and a lot of stuff was gone. We were able to get fried chicken, chow fun, shrimp & vegetable tempura, mac salad and namasu. We also grabbed some stuff from next door , that will be a different post."

Fran C. "So I guess you saw my attempt (last week) when I was attempting to get my Garlic Chicken fix @ K & K Kitchen but totally failed! What a difference a week makes, as today I was successful!!! Yay me! Lol!I had bookmarked this joint called - "T & L Market" in Kalihi, because after seeing the pics of da grindz from a few of my Yelp buddies, I told myself that I should check this place out one day. While doing some online training modules in my office, when lunch time rolled around, I told my coworker if he like check out T & L Market?I'd figure if I took my friend with me, if I could not find parking, I would have my friend drive my car around the block a few times while I ran inside to pick up some lunch time grindz for both of us.I guess the parking gods were lookin' out for me, because when I got to T & L Market, someone had just pull out of the parking lot, so I swooped into the parking space! SCORE!!!Upon walking into the joint, the menu is posted on the wall. There were several fixed plate lunch menu items, or if you want to make a custom plate for yourself, they had a lot of ala carte daily items (see my take out menu pic I posted).Don't want a plate lunch? I also noticed this business sold some bakery items (not sure if they make the pastries themselves, or if they catered it in), candy, & drinks.Although T & L Market is known for their noodles & fried chicken, I opted for the Garlic Chicken Plate because I didn't get my garlic chicken fix last week, and I was so craving for my garlic chicken. For $12.00 smackaz, I got two scoops white rice, a scoop of mac salad, & a whole bunch of boneless garlic chicken. My friend opted for the Mini Garlic Chicken Plate ($9.00) which was the same as my plate, minus a scoop of white rice, and maybe a little less garlic chicken. What can I say about the grub? The food here was pretty good, but not great. The Garlic Chicken marinade was different from what I would get from Sugoi's or K & K Kitchen. The garlic marinade was not as garlicky, or sweet, but some folks like it like that. As for me, I just LOVE Sugoi's garlic chicken marinade, so you probably know which I would prefer. Overall, the prices here are very reasonable, and for what you pay, and what you get, I must say it's DEALAGES Yo!The next time I come here, I will try their noodles & fried chicken, because after all, if you check out all the pics from this business, you'll see a lot of noodles & fried chicken pics! Lol!"
