Angel H. "The Great Aloha Run is a yearly event that happens on Presidents' Day. It's an 8.15 mile run/walk from Aloha Tower to Aloha Stadium. The route is on Nimitz, under the viaduct by the airport, past the Makalapa Gate at the Naval Station, ending up at the Stadium.I do this annually with my co-workers. We've been doing it for eight years now. My legs are killing me as I type this. Some people care about their time, but we don't. We just walk the entire course taking our jolly time. We enjoy taking in the sites and just goofing around. We stop to check out the high school bands along the way, along with the different radio stations. I also appreciate the annual rose that I get from Watanabe Floral. They pass out tons of roses every Great Aloha Run to the participants that are passing by.After you finish at the Stadium, they pass out snacks. Today, it was a bottled water, a banana, coconut cookies, Red Bull, and a snack mix. They also have a Finisher T-shirt that you pick up from the booth. Every year it's a different design and theme. It's always interesting to see what they come up with."

Mia M. "I stumbled in here while wandering around. The store sells sustainable goods and does refills of household products like shampoo, detergent, cleaning products, lotion, etc. They have every kind of reusable straw, reusable version of paper goods, and lots of eco friendly dental products. Along with household goods, they have a section of vintage clothes. These are curated collections so you know that you won't have to search through junk to find something good. Their aloha shirt selection is especially impressive, and they had some really cute aloha shirts from the 50s and 60s. I believe kokua general store is owned by Jack Johnson (a musician) and dedicated to sustainability. We have some metal cups similar to the ones sold here that we got from his concert, and we love them! Highly recommend for practical, sustainable dishware if glass isn't an option because of its breakability."

Nadine C. "Annual Benefit Clothing Sale 2020 - November 18 and 19, 2020 from 10am to 2pm...If you are looking for great deals, come to the YWCA (Young Women's Christian Association) on Richards Street, located across from Iolani Palace. This YWCA is situated between the Department of Commerce and Consumer Affairs (DCCA) and Alii Place. Metered street parking is along Richards Street and King Street and even at the nearby Post Office. On Sundays, metered street parking is free!!!I first learned about the Annual Benefit Clothing Sale from Facebook. I marked my calendar, then saw an Instagram contest, so, I entered and won $20 worth of items. At $5 per piece, I was able to select 4 things for free! Mahalo!!!I actually went at 10am on the first day of the sale (11-18-20). The line to get in was rather long, so, I went to lunch and came back. I strolled right in at 1pm and had an hour to shop before they closed at 2pm. There were bargains on shoes, purses, tote bags, and clothing. I saw name brands such as Christian Dior, Ann Klein, Ralph Lauren, etc. Some clothing still had tags on them, indicating that they were never worn! For sure, I will return again next year. The YWCA has great programs such as the Dress For Success and job training for those entering the work force. As a child, my mom enrolled me in classes like cooking, swimming, and sewing. When I was older, I took a hula class and even did aerobics since I worked in downtown at the time!Ahhh... Such happy memories! Thanks to the YWCA for all the community service that you do!"

I sped by this place for years and finally discovered them one day participating at the Empty Bowls fundraiser. Classes generally take place quarterly, but you've got to keep an eye on them--they fill up fast! I am currently taking the beginner level throwing class. The instructor, Gerald Toyama, is patient and always there to help his students. He shares his tips and tricks and is great at providing alternative methods to achieve the same effect. The members of the guild are very friendly and supportive. So far, I've really enjoyed my experience at this guild and am looking forward to taking many more classes with them."

We arrived around 2:30p, got our tickets and hopped on the tour bus that took us to the site. Btw, there was no lines at the ticket booths and last admission to the battleship is 3:00p.We traveled over to Ford Island, we got a glimpse of the Bowfin Submarine on the way... we were dropped off and after the picture taking (option to purchase) we went on board the US Battleship Missouri. We took a self-guided tour following the route of the tour map. We started on the Main Deck, then Second Deck (below the Main Deck)... imagine what life was like for the sailors within their tight quarters. We climbed up 4 flights of ladders to the Upper Levels and ending our tour at the Surrender Deck and seeing the plaque which served as the site where representatives of the Empire of Japan signed the documents... it was here, on the ships deck, that the Instrument of Surrender which ended World War II on September 2, 1945 were officially signed. We were able to accomplish our self-guided tour in 1-hr and 10 mins because there was not a whole lot of people with us. It was perfect!Tickets for this tour was $37.99/person for general admission. It was great to experience a historic moment for our country.Review #3587"

""The Susannah Wesley Community Center is a multi-service community and social service center that has provided much needed programs and services to the residents of Kalihi-Palama for over 100 years." I have been to this community center numerous times for several functions from meetings to events. They have a basketball/volleyball/recreational court that is attached to the center overall. They even have some conference rooms which I have went to for meetings. I think SWCC is great to the Kalihi community especially for the youth. They have services for youth development and what not from prevention type of services to after school and summer fun programs. They even have programs and services for the elderly and kupuna. It's conveniently located in Kalihi right in between North School St. and after on that turn from the supermarket and gas station. The staff are great and awesome to work with. I think this a great place for youth and for Seniors as well to take advantage of the programs and services that they have here."

Terry K. "I had the great privilege and opportunity to learn what this great facility was all about. The short story is they are a facility that offers a place for seniors to congregate for social interaction. In addition, they prepare meals for the many seniors who are incapable of preparing meals for themselves. The meals are packed, seemed to provide food for a few days and has everything, including the daily diet of milk. They have the delivery bags iced to keep the meals heathly while enroute. Each bag holds meals for 3 individuals and the bags are sorted and marked by area, ready for the volunteer deliver folks. The highlight was I had the opportunity to be a volunteer delivery person. While providing meals is the main thrust of the project, I've learned many of the seniors do not have people, family or friends to interact with on a daily basis. They look forward to the person bringing the meals, providing opportunity for human interaction. The coordinator of Lanakila was absolutely correct in her statement referring to the importance of our volunteer efforts. I walk away from my volunteer efforts a better person knowing I've help to pride food for the soul and companionship however brief for the mind! The delightful and loquacious founder Deloris will greet you with adorable enthusiasm as you wander by and read the posters, articles and clippings, and take photos with life-sized images of famous people like former U.S. President Barack Obama and Oprah Winfrey. The tragedies faced by Black Americans of the present day become more poignant when reading about the men and women who shaped history. In Hawai'i, little did I realize that there exists a National Park Underground Railroad Network for Freedom at Washington Middle School! Also, the name Anthony Allen was one I knew little about until a visit to the museum opened my eyes. The former slave came to Hawai'i in 1810 and became a steward and confidante to King Kamehameha the Great. How cool is that? There's more to his story and you'll just have to visit the museum to learn the full details.Located at the corner of Piikoi and Kapiolani Blvd. on the second floor, the price of admission is free but donations are welcome. Toan D. "Super convenient location, very bright clean facility and well trained staff. They make it very pleasant and easy experience for you. There's plenty of parking in front then you walk up one floor or take the elevator and Boom! you're inside. Once there, you check in at the front desk where they'll ask to see your ID. Then they give you a small informational booklet and questionnaire to fill out. Give yourself about 10 minutes for this process. When done, someone will take you in an office where they check your blood pressure and prick your finger for a few droplets of blood to make sure your blood qualifies. I donate every 8 weeks and a few times I had to come back because I was running a bit low on iron. Now I take iron supplements a few days prior to donating. Once you're approved to donate, they move you into the big room where you lay on a comfortable leather recliner bed and then they stab you in the vein with a needle. But it doesn't hurt...much. Nah joking it doesn't hurt at all... much. It takes about 10 minutes or so depending how much you squeeze the styrofoam hand squeezer they give you. After donating, grab yourself a snack and drink from the snacks table. I'm a sucker for Lay's potato chips. Pro Tip 1 - you need to make an appointment. Pro Tip 2 - eat a good meal before donating but no alcohol. Blood is a Life Saving gift that your body can replenish. Be a good human and go bleed into a plastic bag."

They have a great website that shows you all their different programs. They not only provide services for school children for field trips but they also have tours and classes for adults. The best part of this place is that it's free for students! Money is always an issue when planning field trips because you want to choose a good field trip but also one that doesn't break the bank. Not only was the admission free but the Manoa Heritage Center will also pay for the bus to go there. I was so excited to find out that the whole field trip would be free! We had a big group so we came on two days. We greeted them with our oli and they chanted their oli back to us. Then half the group went on a hike. On the hike, students learned about Hawaiian plants, the heiau built, and the Cooke family house that was built in 1911 (its still in good condition). The docents were very knowledgeable and shared all kinds of factoids with the students. The other half of the group occupied the classroom. They played an ahupua'a game. Each table was a section of the ahupua'a and as a group they had to decide how they would get their resources to survive. It was good for the students to work together and problem solve on how they would get the necessary items. Overall it was a great experience. I'm glad that I was able to find this place. They were easy to work with and the teachers and students enjoyed the field trip. I actually overheard a few students say "this is the best field trip ever.""

The Hawaii Okinawan Center is located in Waipio Gentry and is easily found by either traveling on Kam Highway or the H-2 Freeway. However, I would probably recommend a route via Kam Hwy for convenience reasons. The party I attended was in the Legacy II ballroom, of which the entrance faces the parking lot. I later discovered that the Legacy Ballroom is actually 1 huge ballroom, and it was divided into 2 separate areas on this evening as another party was taking place in the other half. Incidentally, the side where the other party was taking place was larger and had a stage as well.Although the portion of the ballroom where our party was held was much smaller, I liked the high ceilings so there was the illusion that the room was slightly big and grand. I believe there were about 18 tables (seating for 10) set up for the party, but since this section was smaller, there wasn't much room to have more tables set up if the need arose. Food and drinks were provided by A Catering Experience, which (from what I was told later that evening) is the catering division if Zippy's. The food served to guests at the party included Chinese chicken salad, assorted fruits, rice, noodles, fried chicken, roast pork, mahimahi, and adobo (which most of us thought it was sweet and sour pork). Besides water, fruit punch (very watery!), coffee, and tea was also provided.Lastly, the banquet staff was very gracious, polite, and kind. I was very impressed with the attentiveness of the staff that night, and their quality service contributed to a wonderful evening spent with friends and family.PARKING: FREE parking available in the HI Okinawa Center lot. "UPDATE: I've corrected and clarified certain points of my review to make sure there was no misunderstanding:Helping Hands Hawaii is an exceptional organization lending its hands to people in need by providing clothing, household goods, language assistance. During the holidays they host a special program named "Adopt a Family". A family's wish list is promoted via HHH media partners so anyone wishing to assist would have to contact the media or HHH directly. They are located at the 2100 block of Nimtz Hwy. But don't be fooled. They are not in the frontage of the building where the sign is rather, you would have to access their location from Puuhale Road. The collection area at the facility for donations is located at the immediate right side entrance. They accept clothes, household goods, furniture, toys and almost anything you can think of. The only caveat is that all goods, small appliances, etc be in working and operable condition as they do not have an arm for repair.Volunteers are always welcome. They need volunteers who can work in almost any discipline that a simple phonecall to HHH would clarfity. Their translators of language are PAID part time employees but there for the asking. So, when you are cleaning your home please think about sharing things you have not used or things you are planning to discard and discard them in the Helping Hands Hawaii direction.87/100 Yelp Review Challenge Los Angeles"
