Also my daughter wasn't potty train and after 2 weeks she is already. I appreciate all the staffs at Oceanpointe. They are always smiling and making me as parent feeling comfortable and at ease leaving my child with their care."

Jessica B. "All 3 of my children attended this preschool. The schools are very small which means lots of attention for your family and child. Since its not a daycare, picking up early is a must but definitely worth it! Homework and school work are different for each child, its by their own ability. We love the staff so much, last year we donated Koolina Beach club for a whole week for all of them. It was needed with all the covid stress and extra cleaning/screenings. My middle child got into Kamehameha last year and I know its because of all the hard working staff that go above and beyond for these kids!"

Love A Keiki Learning Center

KC B. "My son went to Love A Keiki learning center and he loved it there! The staff is very helpful and welcoming, especially for a "helicopter mom" like me who is super attached to my child, and visa-versa. My son was extra shy at first and had a hard time adjusting being with someone other than his sitters. The staff at Love a keiki helped fully potty train and teach him manners and the basic fundamentals for kindergarten. He always gets excited when we talk about school and says he had a great day at school. Plus, it's one of the more affordable tuitions. =) The only downside is that there is no air conditioning, like a lot of schools in Hawaii. I was going to -1 star, but decided there are a lot of good stuff to make up for it. For example, field trips, holiday festivities, pizza days, water days, Ronald Mcdonald day, and a cute graduation ceremony when the children are ready to transition to Kindergarten. I would recommend Love a Keiki for a parent/child looking for a school near Kalihi/town."

With tons of free weights, machines, cardio machines, swimming pool and classes, there is no excuse to be bored at the gym. I guarantee you the staff will make you feel like family. There is ample parking on both entrances and you can always feel safe in the area. The facility is located at the Sugar Mill with the old smoke stack intact. The top floor has the free weights, cardio and machines. The second floor includes the classes and the lower level has a swimming pool with another small fitness room. Sammy L. "We had the pleasure of having Jenn babysit my 1 year old when we were visiting Waikiki. Let me save you the painstaking agony of spending hours online researching and scouring reviews for the right sitter. I read all of Jenn's reviews and decided that she would be a good candidate. The clients that she had all gave her stellar recommendations and the reviews were all consistent. When we finally met her she was very warm and just a genuinely good person to be around. Upon introducing herself she gave us a binder that had her credentials, CPR/first aid and license they were all up to date. We talked about her background and how she moved to Waikiki from SF. Honestly, I would have loved to have just hungout with her myself and knocked back a few Primos! I had emailed her from the mainland which days we wanted to book well in advance to give her a heads up. Jenn will send you an invoice to secure those dates via PayPal. All the communication from the first email to the very last text message were all smooth and clear! I never had to worry about her not showing up, reliability in all aspects were met. We had her for a total of 6 nights and she has a 4 hour minimum. My son is an amazing sleeper and we kept him on Cali time so he was in bed completely knocked out by 3pm Hawaii time. So Jenn would come over by 5pm and we would go out and enjoy the rest of the evening. Jenn even gave us tips on things to do and where to eat, which all turned out to be great recommendations. The funny thing is she never met my son as he was always a sleep! We had a monitor that we brought which was very helpful. Trusting your child to someone who is an absolute stranger is the scariest and most daunting decision but at a certain point you have to start somewhere. My husband and I has the most amazing date nights due to Jenn, they were much needed. I've even told Jenn she is more than welcome to stay with us anytime she visits the bay area. We were sad to leave her but really happy that we met. I've already given her name and email to most of my friends and family. **Bonus: we had a lot of left over groceries in our condo and I asked if she was willing to take whatever she wanted and it felt so good to not waste it all!**"

Crystal Y. "When it was time for me to return to work at 8 weeks, we struggled to find a daycare for my sons age that had an opening. By some miracle, stepping stones had an opening! Everyone was so friendly and knew my child's name and he loved them back. He smiled and got excited to spend his day with them and even saying goodbye, which to me was a good sign. This place was ALWAYS clean, never had any funky odors, and even the other parents where so friendly in passing. Toys, high chairs, counters, etc were always clean - I'm honestly not sure how they do it!Entry is gated with an access code and parking is located a short walk away. Teachers plan fun art activities with the children that get sent home for you to keep. Teachers update you throughout the day with diaper changes, feedings, and my favorite - photos - to see how their day is going, through Pro Care app. The ONLY reason we are no longer here, is because we couldn't afford it. We don't qualify for any kind of assistance and the cost was starting to add up for us. To the entire team at Stepping Stones Waipahu - we greatly appreciate the care you took of our miracle baby!"

The Growing Patch 24-Hour Children Academy

The Growing Patch 24-Hour Children Academy

Candice P. "We love the Growing Patch! So we initially found the Growing Patch on Patch Hawaii where they list all certified childcare providers on the island. I only used 2 months of maternity leave so I needed to find a daycare that would take my baby as young as she was. We were lucky to find the Growing Patch since they take babies as young as 3 weeks old. We also learned that the owner was prior military and we were proud to go with them since we are military ourselves. We live on the west side and work closer to town so they were right in the middle and convenient for dropping off and picking up baby. Their location is a bit hidden in the back parking lot of Aiea Square area, near Queen Street Cafe but it's easy to get to since it's at the cutoff for Aiea if you're coming from either direction. This makes getting back on the freeway just as easy if you're heading town side. If you're going west, you'll either have to back track to Halawa or drive further down towards Pearl City. To start off, although this facility is a bit hidden, the front doors art covered in bright red posters showing that it's a daycare that provides 24-hour service. Yes! They will watch your child overnight if you need it. We visited the place for the first time during family tour day which was scheduled in advanced for those interested in learning about the facility, their staff and how they do things at the Growing Patch. We were the 1st ones to sign up after the orientation was completed and they offered an "observation day" before my baby officially started daycare with them. This was where they watched her for a few hours to see how she does around the care givers, being in a new place and around other children. She did great her 1st time there and the longer she went, the more she would learn to love being there. They provide you a list with the items they'll need to take care of your baby and anything else you would recommend to keep them comfortable when they're away from you. Each child has a storage cubby for their belongings. At the front door, you have to ring the doorbell to be let in and you check in on the tablet at the front desk. The facility itself is organized and separated into areas for different age groups since they take infants and up to pre-k age. My baby was enrolled into the infants area and they have a lot of things to keep the children busy from walkers, toys, beds and more! They do art work too like a regular school would and send it home with the parents. I love my baby's footprint art! The place smells clean every time I walk in and they sanitize everything at the end of each day. They have a calendar at the front that you can view to see what your child is scheduled to do that day. You can ask the front desk assistants for a curriculum to take home with you too. They even have scheduled field trips for the kids and notify parents via email and the app for permission. Their last field trip was to the Pumpkin Patch back in October 2024. They use an app called Child Pilot to help you keep track of what you're child is doing during the day and to contact you if needed. If you don't bring lunch for your child, they provide meals specially made by the Queen Street Cafe but this is for the toddler ages. The staff here if so friendly and they love the kids very because it shows. When I drop my baby off in the morning, she already knows where she is and loves to smile at all the caregivers. She's even excited to see all the other children and does not cry when I leave. After only a couple months here, my baby is the most friendliest and social child and I love how her smile can brighten up anyone's day when they see her. They hold parent teacher conference to talk about your child's progress here at the Growing Patch. They even ask about the milestones you expect your baby to reach and they'll help them work on that. These meetings are nice and as a first time parent, it's funny to see things from this aspect because I remember my parent teacher conferences with my parents and most of them weren't good since I was naughty lol. I love the relationships they build here otherwise and I haven't had any bad experiences with the Growing Patch so far. We recommend their services to all parents with toddlers or younger and we hope they open more facilities on island in the future. I also wanted to mention that they have a Facebook and Instagram page to see updates and events on your social media. Please see the photos I posted for more info.Thank you to the Growing Patch Ohana and their owner, Mrs. Dominica for all you do!"

Diva G. "I was once one of those kiddos in the Summer fun program and now I get to bring my son here to try out the other amenities. I put him in swimming lessons when he was 3 and he always looked forward to once a week practices. It's hard to catch the next sign up time. I usually call when it has already started..partly my fault as I should write this down. The girl would say when to call in, usually around the middle of a certain months..can't sign up in advance. The website doesn't have an updated schedule and sign up time for the next session last I checked. Practices are less than an hour and an instructor works with about 2-3 of the kiddos in the younger class. At the end of the session, they will let you know if your child is ready to move up to the next level. As for the gym, we used to frequent this one a lot as a member. It's a smaller 2 room facility. One room has the cardio treadmill machines and the other is a weight room. I'm not sure if there still is a trainer, but there used to be one walking back and forth between each room and you can ask him questions. We never tried the child care services bc 1. Wasn't sure if we had to pay, I think it was $10 even if you're a member 2. We thought you had to call and reserve your time to drop off 3. The hours didn't really work for the times we would go.. especially Saturday afternoons or late evenings. As for the summer fun program, yes the leaders are high school students or had just gotten out of school so the customer service skills aren't the best. I haven't seen them on their phone and usually they are interacting with the kiddos. As a child, I had a blast! But now that it's my turn to pay, yikes. Side tracked a bit. But I don't understand why summer fun doesn't immediately start after the elementary school kids are on break!?"

Sounds of Success: Preschool and Learning Center

Victoria M. "This is one of the top preschools on the island! The curriculum is rigorous and fun, but most importantly, the teachers and administration care deeply about the kids. This is not a daycare; it's a learning center! Yes, it's preschool, but preschoolers learn through play! The classrooms are centers based, where kids play in a center that focuses on a specific skill. They might be doing puzzles, or patterns, or letter recognition, but if you ask them, they're just playing! This preschool has a very secure location, where the front door has a camera, parents must be buzzed in to enter, and any visitors must be signed in by administrators. Parents and family members who are designated to drop off/pickup must sign students in and out daily. The site has a separate playroom which is a few doors down in the same building, so kids can have their playtime rain or shine!SOS also has speech pathologists on staff, so if your child needs a little extra speech help to get on level with their peers, they can accommodate that! If you decide to bring your child here, know that they will learn a lot, will be well cared for, but most importantly, they'll be loved!"

However, our children routinely still reflect on their experiences there and miss their teachers and classmates very much many weeks after we returned home.100% would recommend to any family looking for a loving, caring and overall nourishing program for their kiddos. To the staff - thank you for the positive impressions and memories you bestowed on our children. We're in debt to each of you."

Jon D. "Daycare for children. The best part of Cole is they take small kids under 2 years old. The care takers are personable and do their best to help the small kids around and have lesson plans to help them progress in this very early part of the journey. Some of the great people there Ms. Liz, Ms. Taylor, Ms. Elli, Solomon and Ms. Diane. They are flexible and understand that kids are all different and the parents also have different schedules. Highly recommend this daycare to anyone needing daycare for a small one in the area."

Chandra D. "My husband and I were back on Oahu two years after our last visit. Our then four-month-old baby is now a 2.5 year old energetic toddler. Back home he has a nanny M-F, and he has experience with sitters and other adult care providers. This means I was less anxious than I was two years ago leaving my four-month-old in someone's care. However, I still wanted to make sure he was in good hands.Deborah from Aloha Sitters responded to my inquiry promptly. The whole process was very easy. I reached out December 25, Deborah replied December 26, and I had a sitter for Friday, Saturday, and Sunday by December 28. Yay!I like that Aloha Sitters has pictures of the sitters, so I was able to have my son look at his sitter's picture and talk about her for a day or so before she showed up.Ms. Brenda showed up prepared to watch an energetic toddler: she had toys, a balloon, Play-Doh, and more. My son loved her! She sent me text message updates and pictures. She was absolutely amazing! Thank you, Aloha Sitters!"

Angela M. "Perhaps it is because care little for weight machines, cardio contraptions, or swimming pools, but I am fond of this YMCA. It is clean, the air conditioners work, the staff is friendly and helpful, and it's not crowded. Do they have a Blonde haired cutie with an accent offering you two towels when you walk in? No, but I am more than capable of bringing my own towel to the Y. I would describe the overall atmosphere as "extra relaxed".The cardio room is teeny, but my husband had no complaints about the weight room, and the child care room, though small, was chock full of toys and tucked away in a location I deemed "safe".Is it a place where you'll be able to show off your rippling muscles and cut bod? No, unless you're a guy into being oogled by senior citizen women waiting for their pilates class. Is this a place where you can take your 200 pound self and not feel horribly self-conscious about your lack of abs and proper tan? Yes it is.As far as zumba (the whole reason why I go to the Y), Maile teaches here on Saturdays and the class is well attended but not crowded like her Nuuanu classes can be. And, like I mentioned, the ac works, which is fabulous as hot yoga may be sexy in a sweaty puddle-y way, but hot zumba not so much.I like it. Perhaps when I'm toned and HOT and extra-milfy, which is going to happen ANY MOMENT (just have to procure $20,000 and schedule the appointment), I'll go prancing about 24 hour fitness in short shorts. For now the Y suits me just fine."

Tehani D. "We enrolled our son at 6 months old and have been really happy with his care. The infant teachers are all wonderful and caring. You can see how much they love the kids. As he's gotten older he's continued to love going to RLA. He's always happy to see his teachers and is all smiles when we drop him off. I really appreciate that they provide meals (breakfast and lunch / snacks). The lunches are impressive (IMO) and expose my son to a lot of foods we don't have at home. On another note, we liked RLA so much that we enrolled my daughter for the summer before she started kindergarten. The class size was small (which has both plusses and minuses, depending on what is important to you). Mainly we liked the curriculum and the amount of hands on activities they were able to do with a small class size. The teacher incorporated some pre-k activities since I wanted to make sure my daughter was prepared for Kindergarten."

Michael R. "This place is simply amazing! They are a nationally accredited early childhood education and care facility. The director of the Kunia location, Dr. Janelle Akuna, and her staff of teachers are extremely patient and are always looking for new and different ways to educate the children! They not only teach the reading, writing and arithmetic, they teach the children foreign language, science, history and most importantly, social skills. Far to often are children left behind or isolated because they lack social skills, and the Cole Academy incorporates this basic skill into their curriculum. Teaching the essentials like sharing, working with one another, and communicating problems with one another. Both of my children have attended the Cole Academy in Kunia and I cannot begin to put into words the positive impact that they have made on my children."

Not only do they teach the kids ABC's and 123's but they teach them foreign language and Hawaiian. You cannot put a price tag on the future potential of being bi-lingual or tri-lingual! They also reinforce potty training and good nutrition. The major aha moment...my child asks to go back every-time we drive by. That says something meaningful coming from a toddler!"

A bus would pick me up from school and my grandpa would wait for me out front and we'd walk home together. As I got older and my grandparents did too, my grandma began coming here for a sense of community. She was able to connect with other elders and have activities to participate in. The Mo'ili'ili Community Center has always been a staple in the community and my only hope is that it can get some much needed updates to be able to continue supporting this special community for the keiki and kupuna that live in it."

Dani S. "I've gone to this YMCA location for years. I've been to the Kahala and Nuuanu locations, but the Kailua location is no ka oi (Google it if you don't know what that means). This Y is located in a cul de sac in Kailua. There's even an ancient Hawaiian heiau in the back. Please be respectful of the heiau.Parking is free and there's plenty of it. The YMCA offers a variety of fitness classes in keeping up with trends. They also have quite a number of children's and seniors programs. One nice benefit they offer is childcare while you work out. The equipment is good. It's clean. It's not the absolute latest in equipment but it's not some huge 1970s Nautilus equipment either. In the cardio room, they have about 7-8 treadmills. There are about 6-7 elliptical machines and about 4 bikes including recumbent. All the cardio marchines have an attached television set to captions. You can watch a program while you work out without disturbing anyone else. The weights area has the usual dumbbells and machines. Most of the younger men tend to pump and preen in the weights area. Why is it men do a set of some exercise then flex to see if the muscle has arrived in the last five minutes? The swimming pool is fine. It's clean. It's not an Olympic size pool but is ok for swimming laps. It's heated. There are family swim hours so you can bring the kids without having them in the way of lap swimmers. There are pool noodles and boards you can use with the kids. This is a very family oriented gym. You see people of all ages, fitness levels and sizes here. I haven't seen any judgement or rudeness. Most people wipe down the machines after use although like any place you have the gross people who don't wipe their sweat off once they're done with the equipment. There are no chatter boxes talking on their cell phones while working out. I work out mostly on the weekends and weekday evenings. The weekday morning crowd is mostly senior citizens. It seems busiest in the morning and afternoon. There are a variety of memberships from solo to family. They offer a Silver and Fit reduced gym membership for Kaiser Permanente seniors. It's a really good deal. Starting January 2017, they will offer a greatly discounted gym membership for other Kaiser Permanente members. Talk to the front desk for more info. The gym is open until 8 pm on weekdays and until 6 pmon the weekends. There's a large courtyard area for a variety of classes or to just talk story and hang out. They have personal trainers if you need someone to kick your ass into shape. I want to give a shout out to Demetrius known to all as "D". He is the sweetest, most helpful trainer there and he has great eclectic taste in music. He makes this gym a warm welcome place."

Gabrielle C. "A very small preschool located in the shopping center near Cutter Ford and across the street from Shiro's Saimin which takes 3 units. My son has been going to this school since he was 2.5 years old till the day before he started Kindergarten. To start off my son is very opihi and a very picky eater. At when he first started as a toddler he mostly drank milk from a sippy cup, in full on diapers, and could barely speak any words at all. For MONTHS he cried everyday when I dropped him off and was so grouchy after school because he didnt nap or eat due to this new environment he has never been in, let alone with anyone else in his life. On his very last day of preschool he was speaking full sentences, opened up his personality, fully potty trained, learned to have new aunties and uncles, knew his ABCs, numbers and colors and even knew all the words to the Hawaii Pono'i and America the beautiful along with other small songs from his school. Did all of this happen overnight? No, but over the course of 2.5 years he has grown so much thanks to this preschool. They understood he learned at his own pace and included him in all the activities till he understood what was needed to be done. Has he opened up his appetite? No lol, but regardless they always offered breakfast, lunch and snack time as well to open him to the possibility of eating new foods.Their hours may say 6am-6pm but in reality they take kids in from 630am-430pm. They have the most affordable tuition around and accept pretty much all child subsidies Hawaii has to offer to help low income parents except the Pauahi Scholarships. It was thanks to Cathy who has told me about it in the first place which helped a lot as a single mother paying for my son's tuition. As the years went by (especially this year) they've upgraded a lot of their areas in the school from signage, outside cameras, alarm system, and kids cubbies which was very nice to see. The staff has been consistent except for 1 seasonal teacher that always comes and goes and my son will always hug all his teachers with a smile upon me picking him up.A great choice for a small affordable school for your little one. Communication could be better between teachers and teacher to parent though. Sometimes a conversation can be forgotten or unspoken but as a parent that what you must follow up on to make sure everything stays up to par. If you want to know how your child is doing in school you have to ask yourself. Thanks for helping my little buddy grow Keiki Aloha. He's come a long way and I appreciate how far he has some with your help."

I have been in the field for over 23 years and worked at several daycares/preschools in Hawaii. I can honestly say that I have never met owners that are so caring and passionate about caring for children. The Weaver Family has been amazing and they are extremely involved in the day to day operations of the school. Classroom sizes are small and there is more than enough staff. At first the thought of parents having access to live feeds was uneasy but honestly it's a great feature. Overall, amazing place to work!"

Lori I. "We had a bunch of 6 yr old boys here for a birthday party and they got down and dirty and had a great time. There were two parts to the 2hr guided nature hike/tour:NATURE HIKE1. Collect items to make a TERRARIUM...The boys (and a few brave girls)dug for worms, picked up rocks, sticks, leaf skeletons, seedlings, bugs, slugs, snails and piled them into a bucket.... (Since my son doesn't usually get to dig for worms, I think this was the highlight of the whole entire experience). 2. Along the way, they saw the Lo'i Kalo (taro patch), a colony of bees, and different types of flora/fauna. They also learned about decomposers, and a little bit about the life cycles of the plants/animals. The hike was short and easy, slightly uphill, and was very muddy and slippery. A few kids slipped on the way down, so you've been warned...they were covered with mud by the end of the trail... TIP: 1. WEAR INSECT REPELLANT. 2. Wear shoes that you don't mind getting all muddy. 3. WEAR BUG SPRAY.4. Wear long sleeved shirts/long pants.5. SPRAY THAT BUG SPRAY ALL OVER YOU. I had long sleeves with cuffs, long pants (with no openings) and sprayed my neck and face but the mosquitos still managed to bite my ass through my pants. (!!)When the boys got back to the pavillion, they assembled their terrariums. Miss Michelle was awesome and really got the kids into designing and building a self-sustaining ecosystem in their jar. The kids would have been completely happy with that, but then it was time for part 2:FISHING in Makiki Stream:The Hawaii Nature Center provided the nets for all the kids and Michelle took them down to the stream and explained where the best places were to find fish. Since it had just rained, the water was brown but all the kids managed to catch shrimp or fish and put them in in the buckets. They released their catch after they were finished (most of them did, anyway).TIP:1. WEAR BUG SPRAY.2. In a large group of boys, there is a very good chance that one of them will either jump in or get very wet. BRING EXTRA CLOTHES AND DRY SHOES.3. WEAR INSECT REPELLANT.4. Make sure your son does not put the shrimp in his pocket to take home. 5. Blah blah blah...BUG SPRAY.Birthday party for a bunch of boys=Awesome!"
