"Delicious Sunday Breakfast! Posting a little late as I went a couple of weeks ago...but this is a great spot in Chinatown, Honolulu. Great for big families, it was us and our friends with their kids, who had called a head to reserve a table. Dim sum is fresh and delicious, very flavorful. Lots of options to chose from. Everything comes out fast since they are so busy they anticipate such a huge rush and come out with food to choose from. Really friendly service too!!"
"I would frequent this restaurant a lot for take out in previous years as a student going to school and loved their food from the beginning. I had once again returned at the start of the Chinese New year & parade and we were definitely here for it! Always a local favorite of mine when it comes to Dim sum, I knew that this was the perfect simple date night to bring my husband to try and knowing that it would be busy for the holiday weekend I made sure to make advance reservations. The Dim sum did not disappoint and as I'm writing this now I can still taste the half moons, shrimp look fun and pork hash that we tried as well as the shrimp dumplings just to name a few. I love the jian dui or sesame ball for dessert and the egg drop soup was a nice accompaniment before attending a show at the Hawaii Theater for the evening. The ambiance is very casual and the service is always friendly quick and efficient! Be prepared to pay for parking too right across the street"
"Old school Cantonese restaurant. Staff speaks Cantonese. Food came out fast but the service was on the slower side side since there was around 3 servers for the whole restaurant at evening. The food was good and I really liked the salt and pepper lobster. Lobster was fresh. Fried rice has the wok flavor and had dried salted fish. The ginger and onion sauce was tasty and fresh. The chicken itself is a little bland. Overall pretty good and legit Chinese food!"
"Cantonese Comfort Food with an extensive menu with good portions and good prices. Service is prompt and friendly. Not much ambiance if you dine in but I didn't mind it at all very casual setting. I felt it was better to enjoy the food there. Parking in the front was minimal but there was a sign that there was additional parking."
"Ordered takeout and it was just ok. The shrimp dumplings had small shrimp. The look funn (even tho I ordered pork) it came with shrimp.. each noodle only had ONE shrimp. The Sui Mai was oversteamed. The pork ribs had so much bone that most of it was inedible. This was Takeout tho... the entire order was around $30 and I wouldn't recommend it."
"I came here with my family last week and celebrated my mother's birthday. We packed two large tables of around 20 people. We ordered a bunch of entrees in which my favorites were: Fried flounder, fried rice and chow mein, sweet & sour pork, eggplant with shredded beef, and their crispy golden chicken.Their service was excellent. The manager kept making sure we were doing find by doing refills and cleaning up empty platters, etc. I thought this Chinese restaurant is quality and definitely worth coming to. None of the dishes were oily, bland, and over salted. The food was cooked just fine and tasted really good. My whole family was satisfied.Great Job!!"
"Went back for for 2nd try. Better this time. Normally go for daily specials. Lab day holiday lunch. Dine in. Monday daily special. Minute chicken cake noodle $14.95 requested gravy on side, garlic ong choy, 4 pieces crispy gau gee (didn't get it in last order). Owner Aaron, cousin Casey, and Nephew were there. Serving portion are good for price. Bring down empty boxes for them next time. (For their take out orders)"
"Harbor village cuisine is one of my favor for authentic Chinese cuisine, particularly Braised Fish Fillet & Tofu which many consider the best in the area. My son's favor egg tart, my husband's favor dried scallops and egg white fried rice ! As good as always! These are our dinner tonight !"

Very good authentic dimsum [Honolulu HI]Since my knowledge of dimsum is limited to only shu mais and xiao long baos, my friend Kathy did all the ordering for us. The ladies would come around with their dimsum cart and this is what we got:Deep Fried Taro PuffFried Shrimp WontonShanghai Dumplings (Xiao Long Bao)Pan Fried Shredded Taro CakeCustard Tart (egg tart)Chicken Feet w/ Black Bean SauceSteamed Spinach and Shrimp DumplingBeef Look FunShu MaiSeafood RollSteam Shrimp BallHar GowMost of the dimsum came in threes. What my friend did was she set a third plate for my hubby who couldn't join us. She would set the 3rd piece on the extra plate. Towards the end of our meal she had the plate wrapped to go so I can take it to him. Everything we ordered was delicious... except I still will not try the chicken feet. Parking is available in the building with inexpensive parking rates. Fook Lam Seafood Restaurant is located in the Chinese Cultural Plaza in Chinatown Honolulu. Thank you, Kathy! Review #3573

Unpretentious Chinese café with reasonable prices and some amazing bites. Our favorites were the beancurd roll (loaded with shredded vegetables and pork), Look fun with shrimp (bigger shrimp than normally used at dim sum restaurants from New York to San Francisco) and panfried pork and vegetable bun (the bun was so soft and pillowy and pan fried just perfectly).

I was the oddball. On a recent state holiday I met up with my foodie friends where we usually get together on holidays for breakfast or lunch. It was determined we go to Lobster King (LK), a Chinese and Korean-Chinese restaurant, that has been in operation since 2010. I've heard and read mixed reviews of this place where it wasn't a priority to try here. But as we sat down at our round table and reviewed the menu, it was revealed that I was the only one who hasn't eaten at LK. Upon arrival shortly before noon, it was impressive that the parking lot from the Keeaumoku St entrance was full so I parked on the other side. As I walked to the entrance, I noticed a group of Korean tourists exit a taxi and came here for lunch. Upon entry, the restaurant was quite full with mixed conversations going on in English, Korean, Mandarin and Cantonese. I pretty much knew what I was ordering for lunch as I've witnessed many, many postings by Judy C., with her raving overthe XO Sauce Prawns with Look Funn. When I realized LK also has Korean-Chinese offerings, I also thought about switching to Jyajeongmen or Jjamppong. But no deviation on this visit as I just had to investigate Judy's go to dish here. It was quite amusing and coincidental that all 7 of us ordered different items, most from their lunch menu specials. The restaurant was quite busy and we utilized our wait time catching up with new businesses in town and recent Yelp events. It was impressive that our food was delivered to our table pretty much at the same time. Although we were not dining family style, we placed our food on the lazy susan and snapped away with our cell phones. After taking the pictures, it was finally time to eat.THE VERDICT:The XO look funn was visually an impressive bowl of noodles with a generous portion. There were about 10 decent sized shrimp cooked perfectly with bright green Chinese peas and carrots. I first tried the broth which was flavorful but lacked heat so I asked for "chili oil." But when the staff repeatedly my request with "chili sauce", I then repeated chili oil in Cantonese "辣椒油". She immediately brought me a serving of chili oil where after adding some of it into my bowl of noodles, I was now a happy camper. Personally, my noodles were just okay and nothing spectacular. I'm glad I finally tried it and will order something else next time. When speaking with my dining mates, the consensus was the food was either just okay or underwhelming. Visually, the char siu pork and roast duck both didn't look appetizing at all. Lacked freshness? The oyster sauce chicken cake noodle special was impressive in volume but the noodles look questionable. Another friend commented the mushy won ton skins and hard char siu, again food quality subpar. On a brighter note, several commented on generous portions but food quality and taste were second tier. Service was above average with multiple staff on the floor who are bilingual. They refilled our water glasses and tea pots multiple occasions, checked up on us and brought containers for those with leftovers to take home. LK ambiance and interior exceeded my expectations as I had low standards after reading some reviews. We did witness and heard the electric fly traps go off. LK acknowledges a fly issue and has taken action on addressing that. It was startling at first when some of us heard that first "zap" go off. In my mind, electrical wiring issue crossed my head until I saw fly traps on the wall. Overall, I'm glad that I finally tried LK and game for a return visit. Witnessing multiple Korean speaking patrons has me wanting to try Korean-Chinese cuisine, as well as trying fresh seafood (crab and lobsters). I wasn't impressed with the food quality but fortunate to have spent a great time with friends who elevated this dining experience. NOTE: While dining at LK, a former colleague stopped by our table as he as leaving the restaurant. We worked together over 30 years ago and recall him having a refined palate. LK seems promising and perhaps we just ordered the wrong dishes as the food didn't impress us.

Bo's Kitchen is another Ohana Market Place success story. I used to go to their little shop in the old Sport's Authority and I'm happy another small business from that place has made it.Cooking Cantonese comfort cuisine, Bo's Kitchen is open fairly late aka 10:30 pm, by Hawaii standards, giving people a good choice for late night eats, but prepare to go to Zippy's for those staying out to the morning light. My better half wanted noodles after a Waikiki comedy show and our parking was almost up, so off to Bo's it was. There's a fair number of stalls out front and the landlord never got around to changing the reserved sign from the old Tai Sei Ramen, who used to operate in that spot.We got the beef brisket noodle soup and the beef chow fun. I have to say, the prices and quantity here are amazing compared to what other places are charging. Eating out has gotten rough in the past four years and Bo's Kitchen is a blast of fresh air in terms of value. The beef brisket noodle soup at $14.75, was delicious to me with a surprisingly large amount of tender brisket. My better half prefers thinner slices, but I was down for these big chunks, and I rarely eat beef these days. There was plenty of noodles as well and the broth was well balanced without being salty. The beef chow fun was nostalgia on a plate. Slightly greasy, dry style, with tender beef, lots of cabbage and bean sprouts, and solid flavor. It's amazing how beef chow fun has gone from $6.5 to $20 in some places over the past two decades, with ever shrinking portions. So Bo's $14.95 for a big ol' plate of steaming tasty nostalgia is a solid deal these days. Delicious and comforting. The restaurant was busy at 8:30 pm on a Wednesday, with a constant stream of people dining in and doing take out and the demographics ranged from a group of old guys to college students and everyone in between. The restaurant itself is clean, well-lit with a polite, efficient staff.

Great food! Great service. Pretty slow during Wednesdays. Great alternative to our regular Mei Sum Dim sum when they are closed.

I love House of Wong and the Uncles that run the restaurant so much. And their food is delicious! If you go there or order food for takeout, just know that these are some of the nicest most genuine Chinese Uncles and the location is right on Kapahulu Ave right by Waikiki. House of Wong is great vibes. The Chinese food is SO ONO and yummy and they are extremely efficient and the restaurant is clean -- my bf and I order fromthem a few times a year it's always great! Thank you for supporting a local neighborhood landmark in Honolulu by supporting House of Wong mahalo Unkoz !!!

We were planning to go to the beach but as happens on the island it started to rain. So we turned off the highway into Koko Plaza and came upon this wonderful dim sum restaurant. As decor it had a large fish tank filled with very beautiful fish and the Nekokats in the window as well as throughout the restaurant. Waiter came and sat us quickly at a table that was comfortable for us near the window. We ordered the spare ribs, steamed Chinese broccoli, tofu wrapped beef, meatballs, Crystal shrimp, barbecue pork steamed buns, And for dessert the sweet rice sesame balls filled with sweet red bean paste. There were three of us. It didn't take long for us to inhale the dim sum because it was well-made and very tasty. Each dish was about $6.95 and we had a pot of jasmine tea. We were able to eat everything and be back out in the sunshine in less than 45 minutes. It was the ideal lunch break for us after being on the highway. Service was attentive; at one point one of us raised a hand just to ask for hot sauce and two different waiters saw the signal. Wonderful.

"My good friends - Chi & Lin were home from Germany, so we decided to make a small get together with da intermediate skool/high skool/college gang, and "King Restaurant & Bar" was the place of choice for our little get together.I've seen quite a few of my Yelp buddies post wonderful reviews & pics of King Restaurant & Bar, but what really deterred me from coming here sooner was the nearby sketchy bums that mainly hang around the front area off of the Kapiolani Blvd. entrance area.Unfortunately for me, I didn't know there was a large parking lot & a back entrance of the restaurant. This parking lot & entrance faces the Keeaumoku Walmart & Sam's Club.Had I known about that, I would have come here sooner, as this restaurant serves up some pretty yummy Chinese grub!I originally thought we were gonna do the dim sum thing for lunch, buy my friend Matt K. went all out and ordered a menu more for like a Chinese dinner. We had ordered the following grub -Peking DuckPeking Duck Skin in BunSteamed Fish Filet with Ginger & Onion SauceBeef Chow Fun (dry style)Shrimp Look FunSalted Fish & Chicken Fried RiceHoney Walnut ShrimpDry Fried String Bean with Minced PorkWhat can I say about the grub?I must say the food was outstanding! It was really hard to pick which dish I liked better, as all of the items that we ordered was so tasty & flavorful!Service was wonderful, and the food came out quickly (probably due to my friend Matt pre-ordering the menu before we came here), and it was nice that we had a private dining room so we could take our time eating, & having long fun conversation. As good as the food was, I was even more happy to see all of my intermediate skool, high skool, & college friends, as we don't get to see each other all of the time."
"Haven't ate dim sum in a long time so decide to swing by for lunch. It was pretty busy but the food came out fast. I enjoyed the noodles better than the dim sum. The service here really depends on the waitress. Some very rude, while others extremely nice! Rude ones threw our take out boxes at us and walk away mid ordering. Food was good edible but I would not return. Ambiance is nothing special, typical Chinese restaurant vibes."
"Had a last minute lunch today @ Hong Kong Noodle House w/a good friend and my sister and brother in law .I ordered their Toss noodles w/Char Siu with the soup on the side . Plus a side order of roast duck so everyone could share . Actually their Toss noodles the soup comes on the side that's their signature noodles .Service was fast and friendly and the meal was very filling. Support local"
"First time I've been there. Got there 10 minutes before opening and saw the long line. My mistake for going on Chinese new year. Got inside and actually ordered maybe 25-30 minutes after opening. Dim sum is huge! Prices are good. Manapua prices kinda steep but very tasty and fresh. Came for the roasted pork. Mostly fatty but it was crispy! Will try again when there is no line."
"Impromptu dinner...My indecisiveness makes for it a crazy decision making and what better place than Chinese cuisine as they have incredible menu choices for my belly to inform my thoughts for the night. With a decent size parking lot right beside the building makes it easy especially during the rush hour as street parking isn't allowed also making it safe to access the restaurant. Walking in I was surprised how spacious it was and with the old school style setting a lady came and took my order was nice and polite. What interest me is that they have a Vegetarian menu section for allergies like mine does make it comforting to know though there's no meat whatsoever which doesn't bother me and using mushroom stock actually sounds yummy and with so much to choose from I decided on the "Mushroom Fantasy Chow Fun" which is a dry type of noodle dish it didn't have the "star" notation categorizing it vegetarian she assured me there isn't any seafood in this dish.Food came out nice and fast I was surprised how little mushroom it had, using shiitake is great as it's my favorite type of mushroom it also had sprouts and some broccoli for the $13.95 price it wasn't much of a fantasy or mushrooms but it really was tasty and light not all covered in heavy seasoning which I do really love and would actually like to try other vegetarian dishes as well.Thank you!"
"Papa's Cafe deserves a huge shoutout for being the ONLY restaurant I've ever seen tape over the original price--to LOWER the price. That's amazing! When restaurants raise prices, it's never coming back down--even if ingredients are cheaper. Here's another Chinese restaurant that changed ownership recently, the previous ones retired, and I'm happy someone took over Papa's Cafe and maintained the excellent food while also adding their own specialty dishes as well! One of those dishes is Spicy Pig's Ear. Very well prepared. The ear's were soft, tasty, tender, and sliced razor thin. The spicy sauce was flavorful and had a very nice spice kick. It was kind of like laoganma chili sauce.Happy to see Spiced Duck Neck available as an alternative to Wu Wei, and these did not disappoint! They were quite tasty and packed with flavor and spice. Most importantly, the Duck neck was warm and moist! Next was the Cold Beef Salad. The beef was quite tender and the sauce was flavorful with a nice spice. My issue was that the beef was warm warm--not room temperature warm. It threw off the experience. We saw one of the workers wrap wontons (ever so professionally) and they looked really good! We asked if it was possible to just purchase them raw and unfrozen, and the owner, who was very friendly, nice, and pleasant, agreed. We were charged the same price on the menu, but received several extra wontons since there was no soup and they didn't need to boil it. Needless to say, the wontons were very good. Simple, authentic taste. Loads of tender and tasty pork, and large chunks of shrimp! They also do party trays as well. It's calculated by the number of orders for the tray size. Ordered a small tray of Beef Chow Funn, and that was 3x a regular order, which you get A LOT. Needless to say, it was a big hit. Tender and tasty caramelized beef with soft and toasty chow Funn. Solid flavor and nice wok heat.Overall, I'm happy that the new owners kept its name, the mom-and-pop feel of the place, the awesome food while also introducing their own delicious dishes. Huge props to marking prices DOWN. Honest people deserve more business! I can't wait to try more things!"
"Every year on Lunar new year we order from here. The jai is tasty and service is fast. I like the crispy pork. I just wish they had steamed whole fish with the head and tail in black bean sauce with green onions and ginger. I like the online ordering feature but sometimes the order gets lost. Be sure to have it clearly stated when online ordering. Bookmark or screenshot your online order just in case. Phone ordering is better because it's not easily lost. They should also do a special jai for lunar new year."
"This use to be my go-to for manapuas. What happened?!I understand having to raise your prices because everything else went up. But to raise your prices and cut the portions. The baked manapua was half the size as before, it was chewy..overall nothing compared to how it use to be. Looked like a dinner roll. Guess I won't be coming back for awhile."
"This place can get super busy as I have seen on times I walked past. We arrived at 2pm on a weekday and were the only diners there. They have a good big menu of chinese HKG favorites. I had the laksa and ovaltine french toast. Their iced milk tea is super authentic with that strong tea blend and smooth milkiness. The laksa was nice and spicy with good flavor. The french toast was crispy with ovaltine on the top and smooth sweet condensed milk in the middle. A nice way to end the meal."
"Buffet dinner in Honolulu, Hawaii...Located at Stadium Mall, next to Ice Palace Hawaii (skating rink) is an old school restaurant named Royal Palace Restaurant. I had never been there before. I saw a sign for the lunch buffet- which they have daily. However, if you want a buffet dinner, you'll need a minimum of 20 people. I really wanted to try the buffet dinner because some of my friends don't eat pork, while others are allergic to shrimp, and a few people (like myself) don't enjoy spicy foods. A buffet would be great for everyone - even vegetarians and pescatarians!Calling on some friends, everyone seemed eager to go! They all appreciated the free, shared parking, convenient restroom, and super friendly and efficient service by Bosco... he's the 17 year old son of the cook! I told him that he's really good at his job: refilling empty entrées, removing used plates, calculating the bill, bringing tea to those who requested, etc. He said that he gets his steps in... over 12,000 so far... LOL!I actually did a site inspection a couple of days before our gathering. I offered a deposit to make sure we had a reservation. The lady was a straightforward Asian female... a bit loud and brisk. She reassured me that we could have the back of the restaurant. There were tables of six and tables for four. It would work out fine! I even had enough space for a reception table where I placed name tags and goodie bags!Ah!My dream for my friends to meet each other was taking shape! The day of the dinner was a bit rainy. Traffic was heavy, but everyone made it, except for one couple. The restaurant was able to charge me for just 18 people and even gave me a discount on those over age 65! Senior citizen discounts are great! The food was wonderful! I liked the chocolate pudding, strawberry jello, almond jello, fresh fruits, salt and pepper shrimp, chow funn, orange chicken, and beef broccoli the most. I was sad that the eggplant and green beans were on the spicy side. I washed it down with some fried rice!Dinner buffet costs a couple of dollars more than the lunch buffet. It's because dinner includes clams and mussels! There also was cold ginger chicken, stir fry veggies with fish filet, and a bitter melon dish.I was really happy with everything! I wished more people could have attended! We were able to stay a bit past 8pm - closing time.Thank you so much!Goong hee faht choi!"
"Whoa!! This place is good. Highly recommend this place. Huge portions at great prices. I'm a huge fan of their Beef Tendon with Chow Funn noodles w/ Choi Sum. Don't be fooled by the looks of the front entrance. This place is that good."
"The dining room is Huge! Haven't been here in probably 12 years. The air is filled with yummy smells and the noise level is quite loud due to very busy restaurant with patrons occupying tables of 2 to 5 or more.Very eye catchy decor with crystal light fixtures and columns, partitioned doorways for private parties and black metal carved out with dangly prism like elements filling the central main dining room.At least 4 huge flower arrangements at each corner of the room.No dim sum during dinner, no Peking duck available tonight. Wanted Minced beef soup but too large for only two of us.First entree has arrived. The ung choy was the best I've ever had, deep green, the flavor was excellent with garlic. The capital pork chops was moist, juicy and tender. It was an orangey color but tasted similar to sweet sour spareribs. One more dish to come... we need to dash off in 20 minutes cuz we have a show to attend. Just in time. The food is worth the wait."
