There are two items at The Bread House located in Chinatown that gets me all weak in the knees and that's all thanks to the Mayor of Chinatown also known as the Ambassador of Yelp Paul C :) The funniest thing is that I haven't even set foot in this place but know this place all to well because whenever I meet up with the Mayor of Chinatown and other good friends I have met throughout the years from Yelp he always gives me some Baked Char Siu Manapua and Almond Sticks to eat the next day and will last us the Whole Week.Everyone talks about Sing Cheong Yuan's and Royal Kitchen's Baked Char Siu Manapua but let me tell you don't sleep on the Baked Char Siu from The Bread House. The Bun is Pillowy Soft and very tasty and the Char Siu Filling is Nice and Chunky and not Red like most places have their filling. Now I can see why their Bread is so popular here at The Bread House. And another must get here at TBH is The Almond Stick. No words can describe how sinfully delicious these are.Light,Flakey, not overly Sweet is how to describe The Almond Stick. But eating this takes a lot of skill because it's a hot mess trying to eat it but it's so darn good judt make sure you eat it with the plastic bag so you eat all the flaky puff pastry with Slivered Almonds at the bottom of the bag...LOL If you are ever in Chinatown definitely give this place a try. What a dynamic duo these two items are. all thanks to Paul C

I always stop here for the baked red bean buns (since Sing Cheong Yuan stopped making theirs) and some red bean donuts rolled in sugar (like a malasada). Price points are the best in the area at $2 a pop with good quality red bean filling. Saw an open tray to the right of the register with blueberry cream cheese scones cooling. Asked if they sell these too, got an affirmative, and at a decent price. Snagged one and decided to eat it now..let me tell you all, their scones are a revelation! I happened to have a Diamond Head Grill and Market/Bakery's blueberry cream cheese scone two nights prior, and damn - Bread House's version just knocks it out of the park!!!!The scone is not too bready or heavy, crumbles just right, has large blueberries that pop with a sweetly mellow and tart flavor, a generous middle layer of cream cheese through the scones, and has just the slightest crunchy crust at the outer corners. It isn't too small, and not too large. This scone is also fresh and light, and cheaper than the DHG one. DHG has gotten really lazy about making their scones with one dollop of cream cheese, super bready and buttery dough that's tasting more like a muffin with maybe 2 blueberries max.If I didn't care about eating a balanced diet, I'd have these scones every day!! Such a great find.

Every time we stop in Chinatown, we had to bread house to snag some pastries. We've hit the range from the hotdog and cheese pastry to the green tea pastry, and even the custard and cream cheese ones! Each pastry has been quite delicious and has been a great value. It's easy to feed the family when stopping here for a low price. Plus, it's a great option when you're feeling a little snack after shopping for fruit and other delicious treats at the market nearby. Great service, always prompt and professional. In terms of the ambience, there is decent space for folks to grab what they need and get in line without crowding too much. As a staple in our visits to Chinatown, we will absolutely be back.

This is for the strawberry shortcake, not recommend. The cake itself is not moist and the strawberry slices in between layer are thin and not fresh. Plus owner's son (cashier) grab the cake without wearing a glove and forth not individual wrap. Although price very reasonable at $4 per slice. Which other places could cost double and taste mediocre too. I would stick to their bread and scones but not the cakes.

I was looking for a bakery and Bread House came up. Reading through the reviews, the Almond Stick kept coming up, so I had to try it. Scored parking in front, and if I was hungrier, I would've gotten some pork hash from Sing Cheong. Entered BH, and I heard a friendly hello. Couldn't find the almond stick, and then I saw she was wrapping them. I said I'd like one please. He: (inaudible)...40..I gave him $2.He: $6.40Oh, okay...gave him $7, and the friendly woman gave me my bag. So I guess they are only sold as 5 sticks. Which maybe he said...I don't know. Anyway, they are delicious! And they stay crispy after a few days. Some places, the crispy pastries get soft, but these were great!I agree with Terry K. that the service was a bit rude, but the woman was nice. Definitely look past the guy and just get your stuff and go.

Thank you fellow yelper Paul C. For always going down here and getting all different kind of pastries for us to try when he brings it to our yelp get togethers. But he is correct you have to go early to get the good stuff like their banana bread. Went today but a little later like 11:30 or so and yup the bread was sold out. So I got their coconut cream bun. It was moist and you can taste the coconut on the top. You can go crazy looking at all different pastries and different kind of buns like (hot dog bun, char siu bun, curry fry bun etc). Its a place where its probably well known for the people who always shop in chinatown for vegetables and fruitand meats, fish. Try their pastries and buns if in chinatown. You won't regret it.

My wife picked up a coconutbun for our snack. The bun was soft and a little gummy. The the cream filling was lite. The coconut taste came from the. bun and the sprinkle of coconut on top. I would buy it again We have Paul C . to thank. He gave us a mini loaf of banana bread whichwas very similar to the taste and texture of what I make. Actually that's what my wife went in to get. They ran out so to early.Enjoy

The rude dirty manchild working the counter needs to quit and find another job. I usually go to lins to buy leis and usually stop at bread house to buy a cake for the someone's birthday. This morning around 830 am after u bought my leisure I approached the counter and the man child working the counter was scrolling on his iPad (no greeting or anything which doesn't bother me) I politely said excuse me could I grab 2 slices of this cake. He glared at me with what I'm assuming was frosting on the side of his mouth and he was chewing something. He heavily signed and with his bare dirty hands grabbed the slices and threw in into a container. I said "sorry it's for 2 different people may I have another containers ?" he loudly sighs and grunt "fuuuu****kkk" I stopped him and said "are you Ok ? " he said "yeah!" It was the most hostile unnecessary interaction I ever had the displeasure to deal with. I honestly was scared and shocked I wanted to cancel the order but bought it because I felt a bit threatened. I'm disgusted and I won't be back and will be telling all my friends and family about this special interaction and not to support. I don't expect great service but I expect at very least a respectful interaction that isn't hostile.

Not sure what has changed but the service here is rude. So much so that I don't want to patronize this business anymore. The products are delicious! The bread and their baked goods are super soft and yummy. But the service leaves much to be desired. They only had three raisin sticks left at 11:00 AM! I asked if they had more in the back. He said no, no more raisin sticks. Final answer. Then he proceeded to shove the raisin sticks in little plastic bags and then into a paper bag. We paid for our purchase and he left the register with no "thank you for coming in." Nothing. I once bought two dozen of different varieties of pastries and I asked if he could put them in a box and he said it would cost more. Okay I didn't argue because he clearly prefers shoving the pastries in the little bags instead of placing it in a box. Like other reviewers mentioned he is rude and there's no room for this kind of behavior with other bakeries with better customer service.

This is one of my favorite spots in Chinatown, because their bread cost less than ~$2 each. Definitely come here early to have the variety of bread, especially their savory bread is the best (Pizza, Curry, hot dog, etc.) I recommend bringing cash to this establishment since a lot of places may have a charge extra on credit cards. They also serve cheesecake, egg tarts, and so much more!
