As part of the recent Great Crawl, I finally got to try Bob's. As one of the participating venues, and right outside of a trolley stop, it was an easy decision to come in and grab a beer. It's a simple spot, looks like an old restaurant that was cleaned out with empty floor space, a bar in the middle, and a pool table. The bigger draw here is the ample outdoor seating space, with picnic tables for the attached BBQ place. It seemed like the groups here were happy. Prices are reasonable; their selection is everything you could want from a neighborhood bar. I had a green beer for St. Patrick's Day - Sierra Nevada Pale Ale made it turn kind of a greenish brown, but it was still fun. The bartenders were all happy and friendly. This is simple place; plus there's lots of other venues nearby to make your own Kailua Town crawl.

Love this place. Have only tried the brisket, brisket tacos, brisket sandwich and the lamb burger with Parmesan fries. All outstanding. I'll be back soon. Live music is awesome on Tuesdays and Wednesdays!

The bartender sold me a beer with an inch of head. The guy before had an inch and a half of head. The guy after had half a glass of head. If you like getting ripped off, feel free to drink here.

When Whiskey Smoke (a completely separate business which was next door- and you will note that any positive reviews of Bob's was due to the killer food and music Whiskey Smoke used to have next door) started up next door and I went back to Bob's (because if you wanted a beer with your barbecue, you'd have to get it from Bob's), I was surprised to see that they had torn up the million year old, beer and vomit soaked carpet and replaced it with tile. They'd squeezed the pool tables into the front area, opening space for a couple of cheap, weird tables and chairs under the same blaring fluorescent lights that were installed when the place was a fast food joint- but it was still an improvement over the former stench of the place. They had nice, friendly bartenders, but only one at a time, and they were always overworked and backed up in orders because Bob's owner is perhaps too cheap to hire a bar back to wash glasses, etc. So, if there were more than 20 people in the bar, you might wait 15-20 minutes to get a beer. The beer price was in line with what you would expect, but, pitchers were always warm and flat. And short pours are the standard. Then, there's the "shot" glasses. I noticed they charge around $10 or more for a standard shot. But they have trick shot glasses. They look like regular shot glasses until you look closely. Then, you can see that they have thick bottoms which take up most of the glass. I ordered a shot after watching some guys doing shots and talking about how little liquor they hold. I poured the "shot" into a highball glass and saw that Bob's shot glasses hold just over half an ounce of liquor. A standard shot is 1 1/2 oz. This might seem like a small complaint, but, it speaks volumes of a mean, unpleasant, greedy, manipulative modus operandi. $10+ for a half ounce of liquor in a trick shot glass. What kind of owner does that? And, the limes are slimy, too. Now that Whiskey Smoke and the music venue are gone, there's absolutely no reason to go to Bob's -unless you enjoy getting poked in the butt by the pool cues of the next table which is spaced too close. So, if you enjoy getting poked in the butt, Bob's is the place.

Food was great...but guess what...THAT's NOT BOB's...it's Whiskey Smoke 808...it's connected to Bob's, but is its own separate company. Now, back to Bob's....if I could give it NO stars, I would. Between the bitchy bartender, weak drinks (I truly think the vodka was watered down), crap atmosphere and dirty everything..there wasn't even any music playing when we were there. It's a BAR...play some music or something for Pete's sake. It's a waste of expensive Kailua real estate IMO.

This place is a dive bar. Don't expect a 5 restaurant. But, do expect some fun characters, a good vibe, some great pitchers of beer while enjoying some phenomenal live music. It's a great spot if you are looking for a pitcher of beer and something lowkey. We went to Bobs multiple times during our stay and every single time we were treated super well and had a great time. Will return!

Does not offer well water, only allows you to buy water. Very frustrating, heard a few people talking about how you can only purchase bottled water. I think all places should offer free well/city water.
