Big Kahuna Water Sports

A year late posting this review but I had the most amazing experience diving with Big Kahuna Water Sports! This was only my second time ever diving - first time diving was only a few days before this at a very introductory level at Magic Island Beach. This dive was more advanced as we went out on 2 dives off of a boat. There were two groups on the boat we went out on. There was a more advanced group of divers who were finishing their Advanced Diver certification and my group who had myself and 2 others who had dived before but not in a long time and needed a refresher. Our instructor (it was a year ago so unfortunately forgot his name!) was really friendly and helpful. I was a bit nervous but he calmed my nerves, explained everything thoroughly, and made sure we were all comfortable and taken care of. He showed us a ton of really cool ocean life underwater and we got to see tons of urchins, eels, and even an octopus! He took some amazing photos and videos as well. This discovery dive was so much fun I decided to go for my PADI certification after this!! 1 year later I am PADI Open Water Diver certified and definitely continuing to dive whenever I can!! Super grateful to Big Kahuna and my dive instructor for igniting this new passion!!!

I love that the boat isn't over crowded and stuffed with tourists on the boat. My boyfriend got a little sea sic due to the weather but the staff was amazing and accommodating. I would join them anytime for a dive!

Over the top the best Scuba experience in Oahu. I'm PADI certified, my son was not. Greg (Instructor) and Dan (Boat Driver) were very gracious and patient. Greg gave instructions for an intro dive with a fresh and funny approach, that let you know that he really loves his work. Have fun, but be safe was the order of the day.We motored out to a shelf a few miles offshore, geared up and dove in. Lot's of fun. Greg was an excellent guide and instructor, carefully balancing out peoples buoyancy with them even knowing he was adjusting their BC. He's a real pro with a great attitude and approach to the sport. Highly recommenced.

Greg was fantastic, very accommodating and was very succinct in his training. He made sure not to overwhelm me as he helped me through scuba certification. Would highly recommend going with Big Kahuna Water Sports for all and any diving you choose to do.

Our experience with Greg and Big Kahuna Water Sports was great. I'm generally not too comfortable in the water but booked a dive for me and my boyfriend since it is something we both wanted to try. We were lucky to be the only ones on our boat that morning so we had Greg all to ourselves! We started off by watching the safety video and then got to experience an awesome double rainbow to start the morning. Once we were all situated, we hopped onto the boat and Greg recapped on the safety parts of the video with a little mini quiz. On our first stop, the captain and Greg made sure our gear was on properly and then helped us roll off the boat and into the water.I went first and really struggled with getting used to the gear and proper breathing. My boyfriend was a natural and started to descend with Greg as he gave me more time to practice. The captain threw a rope off the side for me to hang onto as I waded around and observed the ocean floor and fishes around me, but couldn't get past the mental hump. Both of them were very encouraging and never pressured me beyond my comfort zone. I hung out in the boat with the captain while Greg and my boyfriend had a great dive together where they swam with the sealife and did karate underwater (Greg also takes awesome photos and sends these to you after the dive!). I did get to see some turtles from the surface, which was still cool.All in all - you can really tell how much love they have for diving and Hawaii in general. I didn't want to give up on it completely and Greg gave me some alternatives to beginner diving, which I would definitely want to look into. We'll definitely be back in the future and hope to dive with them again!

Greg is the BEST scuba instructor out there and genuinely great human being! Not only will he make sure you're safe and have an incredible experience but he will also provide great commentary . Most of us were all beginners and he ensured we knew exactly how to dive safely and was helping us find some sea life for great photo ops. If you're looking for an unforgettable experience I highly recommend Greg with Big Kahuna Water Sports.

Captain Greg and his team were great! The conditions were pretty rough when we went out, but Big Kahuna staff were helpful and made for a really great day out, even with the challenges that came our way.

Greg was an amazing dive instructor. Made sure everyone was safe, knew all the hidden gems, and cracked great diving jokes

Greg was AMAZING!! His passion for sea life is contagious! He is an amazing dive instructor and leader! He showed us amazing scuba spots and showed some beautiful sea-life!! He has an amazing personality and made our dives so much fun! He'll be our #1 referral to any divers going to Oahu!
