I'm writing this review as I am enjoying my staycation with @Rani R. at Hale Lani Ohana at the Barbers Point Beach Cottages. Even though it's just a few miles from my home, the waterfront house feels like it's a whole other world--in a good way. The cottages are all steps from the sand/water, and if you look out the windows from some angles, it looks almost like the waves are flowing right under the house! The property is next to White Plains Beach, but in a secure, gated area, far from that beach's parking lot and set back from the road. Our cottage is a wood house with vaulted ceilings and tongue & groove walls (there are a few other wood houses, and some hollow tile duplex cottages). I think they also call it the Cedar House, but I have no idea if it's really cedar or what. It's rustic, but super spacious, with 2 bedroom & 2 bathrooms, wraparound lanai, long driveway and of course, amazing ocean views with a sweeping view of town all the way to Diamond Head in the distance. There is tons of space on the lanai to enjoy the views and sun, plus store surf/stand up paddle/body board storage and any other ocean toys you bring with you. There's an outdoor shower plus hoses so you can rinse down your gear. For less than the price of a hotel room (per night), this place has a full kitchen, outdoor hibachi, and so much space! If you have access to the cottages, I highly recommend staying here!Just a couple pointers: While there are adequate cooking utensils, pots & pans in the kitchen, there are no food items whatsoever. In addition to your food to cook/microwave/grill, remember to bring your condiments & seasonings plus foil/food storage bags, etc. There are really basic hibachi brush & tongs that you can use, but if you'll need your own charcoal, etc. if you want to grill. The Barbers Point folks have an "insect warning" to let you know that they do treat the facilities for insects, but there will still be "critters" that live here with us all. We've seen only tiny ants, and flying carpenter ants & termites. We grabbed a bottle of termite/carpenter ant spray at City Mill to keep them under control, after they had a party outside under a lanai light our first night here. If you they don't bother you or you don't intend to spend time outdoors at night (with the lights on), then you can leave the alone. We just wanted to discourage them from coming around, and most definitely want to avoid bring them home with us when we leave. I hope this review doesn't bring so much attention to the facilities that it becomes hard(er) to get a reservation, but if you have access, it's really worth it to spend some time here. With a little advance planning it's a great staycation location out in "the country". Enjoy!

Spent six days at cottage #1944. A spacious 2 bdrm, 2 bath detached house. We had a panoramic view with wrap around porch. The view is spectacular and there were many surfers making for an entertaining setting. We had a few turtles visit the beach right in front of our cottage. Beds were comfortable and we enjoyed falling asleep to the sound of the ocean. The area was patrolled regularly by the military police and other staff. Everyone was friendly and the place was quiet after 10 pm.

Unit 1760- Beautiful location right on the beach! Rented a 3 bedroom cottage for the weekend. Rates differ by rank, but we paid $185 per night. What a bargain! A/C in every bedroom and living room. Kitchen is well stocked with everything you need plus blender, toaster and coffee maker. If you are a qualified patron, check it out!

I love staying here but on this trip the staff was not so kind. There was a guy in the MWR rental shop who was overly rude for no reason and staff at cottage check in was rude too. Good customer service is very hard to come by in Hawaii and here even more so as they have no reason to be nice. Also, the cabin we stayed in was infested with tiny cockroaches. They were all in the silverware drawer and crawling out of the stove. I'm from here, so I know roaches are everywhere, but this was bad. Investment in Pest control measures necessary.

My family and I just got back from spending a week at one of the White Plains Beach cottages and we loved it! The cottages there are a duplex, but the construction is cinder block, so hearing our neighbors through the walls was almost non-existent. Plus, having pounding surf just feet from your door is a natural soundproofer! The cottages look kinda ancient from the outside, but the renovations inside are quite nice and contemporary. In the kitchen is a full sized fridge (freezer had set-up for ice-cube maker, but it wasn't hooked up), electric stove, "stackable" washer and dyer (smaller capacity), blender, 12 cup coffee maker and full size microwave. Pots, pans, glasses, mugs, silverware, plates, bowls colander, glass storage container with lid (for leftovers, for example), various utensils like tongs (which you can use on the outdoor grill), a spatula, etc are also provided. Granite counter top in the kitchen. Trash can with two trash bags and a recycling bin outside on porch (or lenai). Round kitchen table with 4 chairs are seated close to a couch, coffee table and extra chair.Cable TV with an ethernet cable for your laptop. NO WI-FI.....There is a land-line phone and we gave the number to our families state-side to call US, because our cellphones could never get a decent signal there! We had a 2 bedroom cottage. The "master" bedroom was off the kitchen with a queen size bed, 2 bedside tables, a long, 6 drawer dresser and a closet with a few hangers. Within the open shelving of the closet contained an iron/ironing board, extra blankets and an emergency bag (did not check it out). The other bedroom had 2 twin beds and a 6 drawer dresser. On that dresser were extra blankets and extra towels. The one bathroom had a large, tiled SHOWER ONLY. I called ahead about a hair dryer, but you have to bring your own. Under the bathroom sink is a plunger, toilet bowl brush and 1 extra roll of toilet paper. We had to ask for more of that with 4 people spending a week there! This cottage is air-conditioned, but the units are in the bedrooms and the other parts of the cottage get a bit warm in the late afternoon. There are several ceiling fans, though.Out on the lanai (porch), which is cement, is a round picnic table, 2 plastic chairs and on the other side of the wall of the porch are 2 chaise loungers. There is also an outdoor shower and hose. There is a clothesline out back. We had awesome sunrise views of Honolulu and Diamond Head and tons of surfers and paddle boarders, even at that early hour. There was a Hawaiian Monk Seal (endangered) that came ashore every day that we stayed there. Locals say it's a sign of good luck! They are given a large, roped off area to lounge in the sun in peace. The beach just outside our door was sandy, with rocks a few feet out into the surf. A lifeguard was present, leaving around 5-5:30. MWR has surfboards to rent and lessons, too. We'd go back in a heartbeat! You should go, too!

My family's been renting these cottages for a decade now. It's sort of like our family's beach house without all the fuss. We recently rented one for a week after not coming here for a couple years. We normally have a specific cottage in mind (sorry, not going to reveal which one) when we make our reservations as we're familiar with the layout. This particular cottage or house is a three bedroom two bath structure smack dab on the beach near White Plains with a stunning oceanfront view of Diamond Head. Many of the multi-million dollar properties on the Gold Coast can't say the same.We come here to downshift into "do what you like or do nothing at all" mentality. There's a full kitchen with washer and dryer, a decent size dinning/living room area that looks out onto a huge covered deck facing the ocean. I like sunset and sunrise here as it's just dazzling across the ocean. Enchanting anyone into a blissful daze.On the weekends is when most of my extended family descend upon here with keiki everywhere. The reef landscape fronting the cottage depends on the season and ocean conditions. Most times it's abundant sand, however sometimes it can be rugged reef. Currently it's perfect with tide pools that I've taken keiki nieces and nephews to play. The adults usually take their turn surfing, SUP, diving or fishing. Yes, we've seen sharks here, but we've also seen beautiful honu (turtles) and two resident monk seals that often beach themselves early morning and spend most of the day basking in the sunshine. At nights the adults hang out on the deck playing ukulele, dancing to tunes or catching up with aunties and uncles with an over abundance of pupu. Older cousins take the keiki on flashlight walks for crabs and other sea trinkets. I love the sound of the ocean lulling you to sleep. A fantastic option for those who belong to the military or have connections. Place is operated by MWR (Morale Welfare and Recreation) and patrolled by military personnel and secured on Eisenhower Road by gate accessed via passkey. A great staycation with decent amenities and a priceless view!

We stayed at the Nimitz Beach Cottages. Cottage was cozy and rustic. Area was pretty clean though definitely in need of renovation. Provisions were adequate and information sheet specifically detailed what was provided and not provided. Two bedroom duplex was decent. Being on the beach was great for visiting relatives from the cold Northwest.Be aware that more than likely, items forgotten in the cottage will not be returned to you. I called to report forgotten items in kitchen drawer half an hour after checkout. I called back 4 hours later since Reservations Office did not respond. I was told that Maintenance Supervisor reported no items were found. I am positive that items were left there. Hmmm? Makes me wonder if personnel that accessed the cottage after checkout was queried about reported missing items. Too bad, so sad may be the practice here.
