Just up the road a bit
View from Lanai
Look at that ocean!!! The studio was a ONE MINUTE walk to this exact location. I mean, come on
Options are endless cheaper AND nicer than Backpackers Run-down Inn
Again, same price range, in the REAL Hawaiian community.
Beautiful sunset and surfing

During the pandemic, nothing has been open and boredom took over. The staff are really laid-back and it fits the mood of the service they provide. They were more than accommodating & didn't mind our different situation. The studio we were at was literally right next to 3 tables! It was modest, but all we needed. I really liked the mural-type paintings on the wall rather than framed paintings. They were beautiful & a nice touch. Omg and the peacock & other fantastic paintings... People pick on this establishment but it's the north shore, right next to one of the most incredible beaches & the prices aren't going to break your bank! I definitely recommend this place for a relaxing, peaceful getaway.

Super cool place to stay and it is right across from some awesome beaches. The room that we stayed in was pretty roach infested, and that grossed me out. I guess that's a hostile but pretty much the whole 10 days I was there felt like I could never get clean. The beds are terrible. The blankets are terrible, and the pillows are almost nonexistent.

Rustic. There are roaches, sure, just like everywhere else on the island. Affordable vacation spot. This is a hostel, however, NOT A VACATION INN AND HOTEL. So make your own expectations based on the fact that this is a hostel. Clean rooms, just a little old school. Kind staff and cleaners. Many different room types to pick from. Call directly for a cash discount. Really close to the beaches, can't beat the location.

I wish this place was great so I can look fondly back on the North Shore. $94 for a bunk bed! And they require a minimum of two nights. Sure it was 4th of July weekend.....but place was not even crowded. Front desk guy was the rudest person I've met on 4 islands in 2 months. Place was not clean but not dirty. Good location....but that means super loud because of the main street right outside. An older style that didn't quite have charm but just looked old. Only spot around.

2nd time staying here. Last time was 2016. Good experience both times. Halving a balcony by the beach and sleeping to the sound of ocean waves is extraordinary. Originals by Christie Shinn are painted on the walls. Great spot for the budget-minded traveler. 5-Stars all the way. We'll be back.

Worst hostel experience of my life! Owner was extremely disrespectful. Lights were broken in the unit and no warning was given before staying

AMAZING! Stayed in the back house for 5 nights (checking out this morning) Not only is the location great, but the property itself is beautiful! Everything is open air and the breeze coming through feels amazing. There's little geckos that run around which made us really happy. The other people staying here are super friendly. When I come back to the North Shore, I will 100% stay here again. You're missing out by not staying here!

Eh. This is the only hostel on the North Shore, so if you have to stay, it isn't an awful choice.I stayed in the plantation village, which are a bunch of small studios with a little kitchen and as many bunks that can fit as possible. I liked that we had our own space to cook, but the condition of the cabins was pretty bad. It is clear that the hostel knows you will pay to stay regardless of the state of the space. Reminds me a lot of slum lords in college towns. The beds are incredibly old and uncomfortable. The springs are sticking out on most of the mattresses and messed up my back pretty bad. My biggest complaint is the lack cleanliness and the hostel's method of cleaning. Our cabin was "cleaned" by a girl staying for free in exchange for work. She was in her mid twenties and spent a total of five minutes in our cabin with or without us present. She basically swept and sprayed Lysol in the bathroom. The cabin looked like it hasn't actually been cleaned in months. Under the bunks and in the bathroom the corners all had dirt piled up. It was gross if you took the time to look. Also, the hostel doesn't recycle anything but cans, and makes the travelers who are trading work for rooms dig through all the cabin trash cans instead of putting recycling bins or information for guests. All compost and other recycling stuff just gets tossed. The woman at the front desk was brief and not very friendly which didn't add to the already non existent charm. On the plus side, the location is good for snorkeling, I liked the people in my cabin, and I was able to cook
