Wanted to like the place but they kept changing the drinks on us. Which is fine until the third round and we were told only certain bartenders make certain drinks and then asked if we had been here before lol. Probably fine if you're local or have locals friends idk

Bacchus has been such a great place to enjoy the company of friends and cheap drinks over the years. It's also one of the few gay bars in Waikiki, so the scene is often saturated with tourists from all over the world. It's honestly a fantastic way to meet folks from across the globe. The bartenders are all amazing and friendly. Don't miss out when My Friend George is deejaying! His tunes are always bound to get you moving! This is a small bar, so prepare to be crammed in on a busy night; but with a fresh air balcony, it's never hard to get a breather if you're feeling overcrowded.

This place was happening the night we stopped by. Actually second time here but first time didn't get in. It was during covid when they were only limiting amount of people in at a time. Didn't want to wait for a drink then. But on this visit, it was a busy night but a good crowd. Bar area does get just so I recommend getting a drink right when you get in. There did have someone checking id when you come up the stairs. There's a little outdoor area along the walkway to the restroom. Good crowd and great music.

PONO, was my favorite. I wouldn't express anything less than a true appreciation for the Neighbors on Oahu. Plenty of decent conversation and good support for the LGBTQIA+ Community. I'll always suggest this cool place for a safe Drink and great hospitality.

I had a one day layover in Honolulu on my way to Los Angeles. A dear friend lives there and decided to spend the day in Waikiki took a look at some of the gay bars and it was mid afternoon and I knew everything would be quiet, but I decided on a visit to Baccus. Easy to find off of one of the main avenues, but you do have to walk up some stairs. It's a small bar but very comfy. There were only a handful of people having drinks. I like it quiet so it was great. The bartender was very friendly. The drinks were very good and I like the music they played. The bartender told me gets really busy on Friday and Saturday night which I'm sure it does. It was a nice way to spend the late afternoon having a few drinks in Honolulu. The good: friendly bar, strong drinks, friendly staff. And it's an intimate place. The bad: actually nothing I can think of for a gay bar. It's pretty laid-back. Chances I'll be back: oh for sure whenever I'm back in Waikiki, I'll stop by hopefully maybe on Friday or Saturday night to see it going on all its cylinders. I like small bars as opposed to noisy big ones.

This is a small and unassuming bar on the second story, once you step inside you're definitely going to have a good time. People here were so friendly and made my last night in Waikiki fun. The bartender was playing great music videos and even though it wasn't karaoke night we were all singing at the top of our lungs to many of the songs. Drinks were strong and reasonable, this is definitely going to be my go-to bar the next time I'm there.

Jamie W. and I were honestly not on a Great Gay Bar search in Honolulu, but we happened upon this one as we were deciding where to have dinner in Waikiki. We had already visited Hula's Bar & Lei Stand on Kapahulu, and like Hula's, Bacchus was somewhat discreetly on a second floor, in this case, of a building that looked like a deco-style South Beach motel shared with Siam Square Thai Restaurant.Vibe-wise, if Hula's was like "La Cage aux Folles", Bacchus was more like "The Boys in the Band". The main bar room was compact and would've felt a bit claustrophobic if it didn't feel so friendly and inclusive. There was not a seat to be had inside as most eyes were glued on "The Real Housewives" on the big screen. There was a narrow balcony outside, and a departing sweetheart of a patron offered the two open seats. We grabbed them, and I ordered a pair of refreshing $8 Classic Mai Tais made with light and dark rum, orgeat, curaçao, and lime juice (photo: https://bit.ly/41LCpap). As our serving space, we used the empty flower basket hanging over the railing as we watched a parade of beef pass behind us. Jamie got our second round, a pair of $8 Lilikoi Margaritas salted on the rim and with an extra kick of tequila (photo: https://bit.ly/3SSL4Uu). Already tipsy, we skipped the bar bites and moved on to our dinner destination.COCKTAILS - 4 stars...just what we needed to wet our whistles for wolf calls and otherwiseAMBIANCE - 4 stars...packed but friendly, clean restroomsSERVICE - 4 stars...happy, obliging bartender TOTAL - 4 stars...is there a Honolulu city ordinance that gays have to imbibe on the second floor?RELATED - Exploring Hawaii? For all intents and purposes, Bacchus is no longer a gay bar, unfortunately. On a Wednesday evening, straight people clearly outnumbered the gay patrons by a wide margin. I guess the owner is OK with that, as long as they keep selling drinks, but the atmosphere has definitely gone downhill. Sad, but true.
