Asato Family Shop

I loved this place and was so thankful I got to go while visiting Oahu! They're only open select hours a couple days per week.Their li hing and lemon sorbets were so unique and packed with flavor. The owners (the Asatos) were so kind and gave us a free taste of the strawberry sorbet too. Wish I could have tried some of their ice creams, but couldn't buy the bigger sizes since we weren't returning to a freezer anytime soon :') Hope to go back in the near future!

So glad I finally got to try this delicious treat!I live in Mililani and seldom travel into town and when I do it never seems to be in time to catch the shop when it's open, so when I saw on IG that their van would be making a trip to Mililani I thought...FINALLY!My husband got to the location shortly after the van got there and already had a line! It moved quickly though and he was able to secure all the flavors we wanted to try. We were aven lucky enough to get a free pint of the lihing pineapple because we made an order over $50.I loved all the flavors! They were all delicious. The texture was creamy and none of the flavors were too sweet.My favorite in order of have to have again to probably wouldn't get it again is; li hing pineapple, li hing cola float, super li hing, coffee, li hing vanilla float, lemon peel strawberry float.Like I said they were all delicious but imo the li hing vanilla float did not have enough li hing flavor to it which made it my 2nd least favorite, it basically tasted like vanilla ice cream. The lemon peel strawberry float had the least flavor which is why it is my least favorite. The li hing pineapple is what dreams are made of! I am so happy that I was able to sample this and I hope that this is a regular flavor I can order because if it isn't I am going to be so sad. I am looking forward to actually being able to visit their location downtown soon to try more flavors and hopefully get my hands on a quart of that li hing pineapple.

The Asato Family Shop is open for walk-ins on Sundays and Wednesday. Come early before opening as a line forms quickly. There's 2 separate lines. One for pre-orders and one for walk-ins.Flavors of the day when I went:- STRAWBERRY- PINEAPPLE- GREEN RIVER- YUZU CREAMSICLE- WHITE WABBIT W/ MATCHA MOCHI- PINK LEMONADE (breast cancer fundraiser)- LEMON CRUNCH CAKE (LIMIT 6)We got 5 pints for about $34.Lemon Crunch CakeI was expecting this to be more tangy and tart than what it actually tasted like. This ice cream is on the sweeter side without any acidic bites of citrus. There are bite size pieces of white cake and crunchy sugar bits. More on the plain side for me. I personally would have preferred this to be more acidic and tangy. White Wabbit with Matcha MochiThe fresh matcha mochi bits are the star of this ice cream. Soft and chewy. The matcha flavor is present and delicious. The white candy ice cream part wasn't as crazy sweet as I anticipated after reading someone else's review that it was an extremely sweet vanilla flavor. Definitely way better than what I expected. Of the two flavors I tried, the White Wabbit with Matcha Mochi was my favorite. While the ice cream pints are pricey, they are a nice treat.

So good! Unique and flavorful flavors. We liked the green river flavor the best, it was so refreshing and sweet. We got this at the Kapolei Night Market so we have not been to their shop. However, the service at the night market was efficient and super kind. The line was very long but they were able to cut it down pretty quickly. It seemed like a happy atmosphere from the staff and the customers. It is so nice to be able to support a local business with flavors that you might not find elsewhere! I would recommend trying them out and heading to their shop.

Haven't been to Asato's since before COVID but when I saw they had crème brûlée I just had to go because that's my favorite! I really wanted to try the lilikoi and was thinking about the banana but when I got there the line was super long and just a couple people ahead is when they ran out. Nonetheless, I still was able to get the regular crème brûlée which was still amazing! I also got the green river which is one of their classics and so good. The owners and their whole family is so so nice. And it's so nice to see them expanding from what I remember it to be. The cutest little shop, that comes up with the best unique flavors. You also never know what their line is going to be like so the best thing to do is to go really early if it's a flavor you really want.

Went I. This morning and got 5 pints for my family.Green River Chocolate Peanut Butter Pineapple Ume BoshiCan't recall the last flavor. Dropped it off with my son them and they were happy.

My parents always have Asato stocked up in the freezer, which is such a treat for me. Our favorites are the green river and strawberry, but we've loved every flavor we've tried. Coming from the mainland, Asato is really unique - I wish we had something like this in our neighborhood. The shop itself is small and only open Wednesdays and Sundays, so go early to ensure you get your pick of pints. Everyone is always so warm when we come in - it's really a pleasure stopping by.Can't wait til the next time I'm in Honolulu and can sit on the couch with a pint of Asato again!

A store with plenty of generational history and amazing service and sherbert - Asato was on my list for a long time to visit and it was well worth the wait! It's a small shop where people will wait in line to get their sherbert, and they have their classic flavors like the Green River, but also specialty flavors - we ended up getting the Asato Bar (Chocolate) and Strawberry Brown Sugar Sour Cream flavors - the sour cream one ended up surprising me with how good it was! Both were packaged in their bigger size to-go containers, and I had plenty left over saved as a dessert for later! Really recommend visiting them if given the chance!- Miguel Morales Photography

Got there 20 past 10 on a Sunday morning and line is already formed. We stood in line for about 25 mins but it was not noticeable because it was fully shaded and we were too busy decided which flavors to order. Ordering process is super easy and quick as long as you know what you want. Please review the menu and make up your mind as you stand in line to make the entire process faster for you and others. The owner gave us 4 baked manapuas for free! When we drove by again around 1pm the same day, 2 of the flavors were already sold out (ube & lychee). Glad that we decided to come early. Everything is delicious and not heavy tasting. Not too sweet and overly creamy. Definitely not your traditional ice cream or gelato. It is a to go only place and on the day we visit, they sell everything in quarts. No more scoops order.

This small family shop serves some of the best sherbet and sorbet. I was able to get my hands on the Hilo Lychee, Kinako Mochi, and matcha flavors. I loved the matcha so much as it reminded me of Japan. the Hilo Lychee and Kinako mochi were also so delicious. They also have an assortment of gummies and the prune mui they have is amazing - so juicy and delicious. They have an efficient system to keep the line moving. What slows down the line is when you see all the options and decide what you want when you want to buy it all! There were 3 people in front of me and I waited no more than 5 min to get served. The workers in the front were super friendly and quick to get you your order. They also have someone in front who opens the door and ensures the line is good. I think it's a security person, which helps make you feel safe. Parking: Small lot in the back with about 5 or so parking stalls. If not, plenty of street parking around the area.
