Arakawa Surfboards

The quality and craftsmanship put into each surfboard is AMAZING! I got to experience first hand just a small glimpse into the work that goes in each board. Every detail and shape customized to each surfers body size/weight. It was a such breathtaking experience. Eric has crafted a ton of surfboards for the pro surfers here on island and others around the world. You might just run into one if you ever stop by his shop! I got to! He is the absolute best and it'd be an honor to get one one day! Saving up for it!

Great shaper and boards. Grew up in SD and have multiple boards from many big name shapers. Now I live on Oahu. Got my fist Arakawa last year, Stubby and it surfed great! Paddles well, flowed and ripped anywhere I wanted. Super fun board! Just picked up my custom mango as I've been looking to steal some waves from all the paddle boarders sitting out the back! First their boards are super high quality. I like looking over my new boards really close, just because I like to nerd out on what I'm riding. Bottom contours, rails, rocker, etc...I haven't surfed it yet but i know it's going be killer. Also when I put my online order in, Eric gave me a call and we talked about my dims, which was super cool. If you are looking for a new board HIGHLY recommend putting in a custom with Eric. I'm due to replace my shortboard next year and definitely know who I'm getting it from Thanks Eric for the another great board.

I casually strolled in with my son today to browse and Eric himself was there opening shop. We chatted for a little while and he couldn't have been nicer or more helpful, explaining their various models and what might work best for me. It was a privilege to meet the man himself. Great shop with amazing people.

Got some ding repair done through the shop and the ding expert they subbed it to messed up the job. Arakawa sent it back to them and made them do it right and refunded my money. Unbelievable customer service in this day and age. I'll definitely be stopping there first for fins, bags, and leashes in the future. Hopefully one day I'll get a custom board from them, too.

This place and people are amazing! I saw an interview with Eric Arakawa where he stated he wanted to keep the surfer-shaper interaction alive, and he holds true to his word. I've gotten two custom boards shaped and on both occasions Eric himself took the time to speak with me. The first time, I was able to meet him while on vacation and they worked diligently to make sure that I was able to use this board during my stay on North shore. The second time, he called to speak to me about the board's dems and how I planned to use it to make sure it was the right fit. Sean also has a wealth of knowledge and will take the time to educate (if needed) and help choose the right board and size for your need. The last thing I'll say is, before you buy your next board off the shelf look at all the possibilities here and choose something from someone who cares about your surf experience...100% satisfaction on my end!

I wandered into Eric Arakawa's shop in the Old Sugar Mill just out of curiosity. Eric came out and talked with me about my surfboard needs, then introduced himself. To be honest, I didn't recognize him; I certainly didn't expect him to spend much time talking to me. I thought he'd be much too busy designing magic boards for the pros. After two more visits and even longer conversations with Eric, I ordered two boards. I started surfing late in life; I'm spending time on the North Shore to make up for lost time. I didn't even realize how much difference an optimal board would make until I tried out my two new Arakawa boards. The basic shortboard model, the Super Skate, manages to be simultaneously forgiving and buttery smooth on turns. My step-up board, the Stun Gun, enabled me to get some of my best waves ever on big, lumpy, all-over-the-place North Shore days.At this point, all my old boards are obsolete; Eric is my new shaper.

Three purchases later I'm finally writing this review. There is no better customer service in the WORLD than the group at AFS! I've had three custom boards with hands on conversations and discussions with Eric - a moment you cherish every time! Minor details and last minute changes have never been a problem. Shipping to California is easier and faster than purchasing several other items online from here in the mainland. Tati and Sean are amazing to work with and make your dream board (or quiver) an easy reality. 100% satisfied and 100% coming back for the whole family!!!!
