If you're a long time bowler (30+yrs) do you remember the place in Kalihi that you would drive up the steep ramp to get your bowling needs taken care of? Well it's not there anymore. It moved in 1991 to Pearl City. Not just Pearl City but Pearl City Industrial Park, which is past Pearl City. When you drive up you'll probably miss it, especially if you go now since they are doing major road construction to install some crazy stuff under the roads. The building itself is a warehouse and doesn't look like much but don't let the outside deter you because once inside you will find the largest selection of bowling balls, bags, shoes, and accessories that didn't even exist 30 years ago, plus cue/billiard supplies. Oh and a full service shop (drill/ repairs etc)Sanford was the guy who helped me get new shoes and a bag and redrill my old ball since I have fat fingers now. He is super knowledgeable and knows his stuff from decades of experience. Although there are a few other pro shops closer to me, I'd drive the extra distance to come back here.

Stopped by a couple of weeks ago. I pull up and am confused as to if I'm by a junk yard or what. The place was a mess and my 4 year old complained it smelled. There was cat food in bowls and on the ground in the driveway area and a few cats roaming around. We go in and the owner is on the phone didn't acknowledge us we found the bowling items and he has a good selection BUT it was dark so he motioned me to turn on the light. He said he was on hold and what did I have any quick questions about. It was way to cluttered and tools were laying on the ground in the store I felt like I was on the tv show HOARDERS. I'm sure he has his loyal clientele but this place is not for me.

The owner of this place is great, another no nonsense get to the point kind of guy. What I appreciated about him was he knew his stuff without making you feel intimidated. Some of the other places had people hanging out talking story, felt like I was bothering them with questions. Not at Am Pro I had all of his attention. Tucked far back in pearl city industrial, a little messy the place was but he knew his stuff. Got me new bowling shoes there.

Alright so per one of the other reviews, it doesn't look like much of a business from the outside and once inside its cluttered with lots of stuff. With that said though of the four pro shops I visited, Ampro had the wider selection of bowling balls. He tries to keep one ball of each weight staring at 10# to 15#. If he doesn't have it he can order it and get it in about 5 days. He knew his stuff and I was very satisfied with my purchase. Second game with the new ball, I bowled one of my highest games in some time. Prices were reasonable and his fees for drilling and other services are cheaper then the other shops.

I have purchased bowling supplies from Ampro for years, and if you are going there for that "new car smell," go to Sports Authority and get your ball drilled badly by a novice. Sure the place is a little cluttered, but if you can get past that and want someone that knows what they are doing drill your ball correctly, go check them out. If you need an "experience" when shopping for a bowling ball or other bowling accessories, this isn't the place for you. Save your negative yelps and stick to substance please. I personally want someone who knows their stuff. I have had balls drilled by Ampro that I have used for years.
