Adventure VR is ESCAPETHEROOMers last stop in Honolulu, Hawaii in April 2019. They are located above a "bookstore" in Kaka'ako. There are stairs to take to the second level on the outside. Once you get upstairs, there's two sets of doors and they are the set of black doors to the right which has a little doorbell button that will have VR on it. Ring the bell and the adventure will begin! Currently, they have just the one VR escape game called "Space, Magic, & Time" which was all developed in-house. Their goal is to make many VR escape games for physical escape room locations to add on as a supplement to their escape room choices. Since this is our second VR experience, we felt kind of hooked! They currently have 8 spaces but the max the design of the game currently is for 4 people to play together although they can run two games simultaneously. Each player gets their own VR box so there won't be any bumping into each other situation. Currently their VR headsets are connected to a wire but they will be wireless soon as the wire does tangle as you move around in the game but we didn't find untangling it much of a bother in our game. "Space, Magic, & Time" starts out in a mission control center where you'll be given your first assignment. Each assignment gets harder as it progresses. There's a good mixture of puzzle solving and physical aspects to the game. At one point, we felt like we were actually shooting a real bow and arrow as there was tension felt every time we pulled back. We didn't feel any motion sickness although if you have a fear of height, I think you can definitely practice conquering that in the VR world first. As we get introduced to the VR more now, we can definitely see a trend of where escape rooms might head to next, not replacing but definitely an add on, to the physical escape rooms. *For more info, check out my Yelp profile.

Gerard is a considerate & fun host! He answered my email within the same night, answered my telephone call the next day, and even texted me while on my way to Kakaako to let me know that I could show up as early as 30 minutes before I wanted to start.Sometimes there is a group already in the room, and while there is a comfortable waiting area, you do not want to hear what is going on or it will spoil your own game. So if the previous players are going over-time or you are extra early, it is best to wait downstairs in the Logos bookstore until it is your booking time. There were about 7 empty stalls in the parking lot when I arrived at 5:45pm for my 6pm event. Up the stairs is a little landing. You press the button that says "AVR" and it rings a bell to let you in.Gerard welcomed us, gave us safety tips, and made sure we had tons of fun! We all had a great time. I'm going back with my kids.

Awesome place! Brought my son and 5 friends for his 13th bday today. They had the time of their lives finding clues, solving puzzles, and making their way through 3 different virtual worlds and completing the missions in just under 1 hour. I thought the game was well planned and the kids said it was so much fun! They each had their own cubicle/room but could communicate via the game and had to work with each other virtually to get through the worlds. Free working right out front makes this place a convenient ton of fun! Can't wait to come back again!

Awesome experience! My husband and I booked an hour virtual reality game with AVR for a date night and were blown away by the experience. Gerard, one of the designers of the software, was helpful in providing directions to the location when we were lost and greeted us at door upon arrival. He was friendly, polite, and excited about us experiencing his adventures. He explained how to operate the controllers and what to expect when we put on the headsets. Operation was easy, just a controller per hand and one button on each hand used to grab (click) and move items (hold button and move hands). We purchased a 2-player package, meaning that we both got to hear each other, see each other (our helmets and hands), and work together inside the virtual reality worlds. Now for the game. There were three missions within the program: space sci-fi, magic fantasy, and steampunk sky. I wont give away the plots of the missions, but each level was left me awestruck but how immersed I was in each world. The world is detailed on all sides, so everywhere you look is within this alternate reality. Each level is built around platforms and "portals" so there is no urge to walk around much (since you are attached to wiring that hangs down from above), and even with some moving back and forth and spinning to grab items, I didn't get tangled. The headsets were so comfortable I actually forgot I was wearing them! Each mission requires a certain level of problem solving and if you have partner(s), you need to work together to figure out the puzzles. We completed all 3 missions within our hour and although parts were challenging, the game does offer varying degrees of clues to help along the way. Gerard took a few photos of us while in the game which was funny to see afterward. My final recommendation is that the game is appropriate for pre-teen, teen, and adult age people. You need to follow on screen directions, understand the limits of the equipment, and not be afraid of heights (as some of the "platforms" are high in the VR universe. It is highly recommended and well worth what we spent for the hour. Memorable date night --- we will be coming back for the next released version!

I have been to escape rooms before... but I have to say Adventure VR blows them out of the water! Your missions takes you to different worlds to find clues, fighting witches like Harry Potter, shooting bow and arrows like Robin Hood, solving puzzles like Indiana Jones and that is just to name a few. The cool thing is that you can do it (and should) with two or more people, great for team bonding, date night or just hanging out with your teenage son... LOL! Cool thing is you don't get motion sickness and if you are afraid of heights just remind yourself that you haven't left the ground. I would recommend Adventure VR to anyone looking for a fun safe time out of the sun in A/C in privacy. So for your 60 minutes you have the place to your self, so if you want to scream like a girl because you are standing at the edge of a cliff and have to stick your hand out to grab a dangling object, you can... not that I did that or anything. Just saying.

I heard about this place through a friend and was excited to try the 3D experience. We went as a group of 4 and we each got a head-mounted VR display and two controllers which you use to interact with things in the game. As soon as it started I felt totally immersed in the other worlds and forgot about the headset on my head. The three different virtual worlds (I won't spoil it by giving too much detail) all have their own themes and puzzles to solve. It felt so real that at one point in a tower I was actually scared of falling off! The puzzles are lots of fun and some of them are cooperative (your teammates are represented by their different colored helmets/controllers in the game). The whole thing took us about an hour to complete and we all had a blast. Even though adventure VR uses cool new tech, it's straightforward enough for anyone from your little brother to your grandma to be able to play and have fun. Just a heads up, they take groups from 1-4 people. Check this place out!

First time EVER doing something related to virtual reality and it was a truly unforgettable experience. Took my girlfriend here for her birthday and she absolutely loved it. We both were in awe of the game that was made by the company and how creative it was. The games keeper was really nice and took great photos of us. Tips were really helpful when stuck and would definitely be back. STRONGLY recommend. 100% wont ever find games/adventures like ones they have, and I literally mean that.

This was amazing! Not being a gamer, I needed a lot of help from the other players. Really a team effort. 4 different games each in a different virtual world. So realistic, I was afraid to step through the portal in the last game because it looked like I would fall into space, even though a platform would appear when I did. It's not just escape rooms, they are more of a set of adventures. There are some clues eventually. Gerard, the owner was extremely helpful. You ought to try this!

Adventure VR is unlike any other! You get the escape-room/ puzzle solving feel with a more immersive, unique take on it. It is seriously the most fun I've had in a long time, and for only $35(per person)?? You cant really put a price on fun, but if you had to, $35 is as good as it gets for such a unique experience! Gerard and his team did so well developing this game that you could be young or old and still be able to find the puzzle scenarios enticing, work the controls of the game with ease, AND without any motion sickness! My housemate that joined usually has to take dramamine even for carnival rides, but she was completely fine at Adventure VR.. Thank you so much Gerard and we cant wait for the next adventure you will be creating!Gameplay/ Set-up:There are 3 different scenarios you play through with 1-4 team members all with varying tasks, and you have an hour to complete all 3 (Gerard has been known to give you a bit more time if you're close!) There are 4, curtained rooms all lined up next to each other.. so you are close to your team, but confined to your own space. The curtains provide boundaries within the game, and it is very obvious in the game how far you can go without hitting curtains. You are then strapped into an HTC Vive Vr headset to hear the other players, and you get two hand controls, which is very simple to operate as you only ever need to use 1 button on either control. The headset is attached to a wire that hangs from the ceiling, so if you spin a circle in the same direction too many times, Gerard may have to come in and unspin you.. though this was not a problem for the 4 of our team members...WORK TOGETHER. And listen carefully to each other! It was a bit difficult for me to hear everyone at once in the headset with the music in the background but you can also hear them "outside" the headset since you are so close.
