808 Surf School

I love the vibe and energy 808 surf school radiates. We had a large group visiting from out of town and everyone had individual attention. A lot of our friends were scared but KO and Jerry made a learning and fun friendly environment that our guests will enjoy and remember for life.Thank you Very Much!!! Kendrick Simmons

Kids wanted to surf while in Hawaii and thanks to all these Yelp reviews we chose 808. Hugo was our instructor and did a fabulous job with the group. 2 of them surfed before and the other 2 it was there first time. Hugo breaks down the steps in clear and simple fashion that all of them were able to get up within the first few attempts. As their confidence grew they stayed on longer and longer riding the waves. They meet you at local beach spot, bring all the gear. Parking was easy and there's a restroom open to the public, which is nice and convenient. They provide the rash guard and water shoes as it's the bottom of the ocean is rocky. The water is about 4-5 feet deep. We had decent winds so the kids were able to surf, though something tells me 808 would pick beach spots suitable for learning based on the weather conditions.Hugo was friendly, supportive and fun! Mike was great and helped us set up a last minute appointment for our kids to take lessons. He had great follow up and good communication before the lesson. Hugo was our instructor. He had a great way with the kids, gave good lessons, and guided them the whole way. They both surfed with confidence by the end. He is passionate about teaching the next generation to surf and understand how to be respectful in the water. Highly recommend.

I could not be more PLEASED with the experience I received learning to surf with Andy. He was kind, patient, and a great teacher. I fell off my board once in the whole two hours. Andy was knowledgeable and could read my skill set well enough to ensure I was doing what I should be on the board. I will 100% be recommending 808 to any and all friends and family once I'm permanently on the island this summer. A plus: it is family owned

Our experience with 808 Surf School was fun and memorable. It was our first time. We signed up as a family including our child who just turned 4 and had the best time in our entire trip! They gave a great deal for the 3 of us--having 2 instructors for 2 hours (Mike was tandem surfing with our daughter). We wouldn't get such deal elsewhere. Others won't even accept kids 5 and below.They brought us to such a beautiful beach. The water was shallow, perfect for kids, and rocky but they provide water shoes and rash guard for protection.Mike is a pro with kids! He was surfing with his baby when we got to the area. We were worried our kid won't like it but after their first ride, she already felt very comfortable and was enjoying a lot.Will was patient, cool and a funny instructor! He will give his honest opinion for you to get better at it which was very nice. We got along quickly as he and Mike were both friendly and great guys.We totally recommend 808 to everyone especially to families with younger kids. They are the best people to teach surfing, plus, they are in north shore--not crowded and have amazing views.Mahalo! We hope to have surfing lessons with you again in the future.

My girlfriend and I booked two mornings with 808 during a vacation and we are glad we did. Hugo, our instructor was super patient and helpful. Got us both right up first or second wave within 30 minutes after arrival. Can't say enough good things about these guys!

Only people on the ocean and great surf instructors! We had a lot of fun! Including our 7 and 9 year old!

Andy was amazing with my 5 year old, husband and friend. He kept up with all three of them and knew exactly how to coach each single person. We were beyond awe and it was the highlight of our trip. When we come back to the island he'll be the firstperson we schedule a lesson with.

I've wanted to surf for as long as I can remember, but have been afraid of the power of the ocean's crashing waves; in other words, I've been chicken-sh**! Just shy of my 57th birthday, I decided "it's now or never".I was in HI and called a few places. I decided on 808 because Mike, the owner, was friendly and put me at ease, and it met my criteria for not being over my head in water when I fell off the board.My instructor was Hugo and he was super chill, .patient, and informative. Also very friendly and a lot of fun!I got up on my 1st try!! I was so excited. I would definitely do it with these guys again!
