Pound for pound, Home Deli Market may well be the best deal for lunch in the South Lake Union area.Let's set some clear expectations here. The place isn't fancy, and it's not gourmet fare by any means. It's basically a little convenience store, a bit cramped and dark inside, and the food has been pre-prepared before you order it. Which means there's two main benefits: quality and price.I've had the chicken katsu special twice, and I've been impressed both times. Even though they use chicken (I generally prefer the more traditional pork), the cuts of meat are moist and flavorful, and not over-breaded. Even better, you get a lot of food - two pieces of chicken on a bed of rice, with a small salad. The salad is nothing to write home about, but the katsu is worth going back for.On days when the katsu is on special, you can get what I just described plus an egg roll or gyoza for less than $10. Most lunch on offer in South Lake Union comes in at $12 to $15 (sometimes even more), Home Deli offers a remarkable value.Decent food, excellent portions, and a deal that is probably the best in the area. Give it a shot for yourself - it's worth it.

This crew gets points for the location alone. Always a cast of characters that stroll on through, but polite to everyone. The new deli up the block is super pretentious, considering their big item is board head meats, and can't seem to make a proper Rubin. If home deli wanted to, they could slap together a grilled sandwich that would put places like row house to shame. (12 bucks for a grilled cheese @ row house...really?)Just a little more variety at this place, and it would be spot on with the deli counters that I visited growing up on the east coast.I tell you what. If you want a 6 pack of cold local beers, they always have something new in stock.

The only convenient store close to Pete Gross House. Some items are over priced and may not be as fresh/new as I always check expiry dates.

Amazing!! They have daily specials but my favorite is Spaghetti Fridays! A nice helping of food for $5!!! Plus, they are just the nicest family and welcome you with smiles and kindeness. Numerous times now I've came by and they've been out of spaghetti and they've thrown on another batch! Anybody else would have just turned me away. Love these guys!!! Definitely my Friday highlight. ;-)

Super sketchy. When I walked in I couldn't believe this place had lasagna and teriyaki chicken. I'm not sure where he pulled them out of but he popped them in one of the microwaves, added a salad with a less than favorable sweet dressing and handed them over. The white rice was great. I still can't believe we ate the food. We're here to talk about it so it either can't be that bad or we got lucky. Lasagna wasn't actually ok, like a Stouffer's frozen one.

A nice little spot with very freindly guys. The food is cheap and actually pretty good.I got the teriyaki bowl a couple of times, but never the sandwhich or the salads. The rice is good, the meat is tasty. Its not the best, but so quick and good that I love it.

This is my go-to lunch spot for a quick and very reasonably priced meal. I always order the spicy chicken teriyaki which comes with rice, a side salad, and two gyoza. They are pretty efficient in that usually one person puts your meal together while another person rings you up. They can get you in and out pretty quickly even when there are a lot of construction workers stopping in to grab lunch. They accept credit card with no additional charge if the purchase is over $5. It's just over $7 for a perfect, protein-packed lunch. It's not the best chicken teriyaki, but it is the perfect offering for a corner store market.

This is your standard mom & pops store. We stopped here quite a few times over the past month as we were staying at a rental on the same street. The store is really on the smaller side so the selection is limited but has some common essentials. I was a bit disappointed in the chip and drink selection. On the other hand, I was thrilled when I needed soy sauce and found a few bottles here. They also sell some hot foods. I saw a couple customers buying chicken katsu plates which looked awesome. I came another day since I started daydreaming about it but was advised that they only sell the katsu 2 days a week--- I think one day was Tuesday but wasn't sure about the second day. A couple times I bought egg rolls which were pretty damn good, and they provided packets of sweet/sour dipping sauce. The store is a bit on the dingy side even by mom & pops standards. I have a feeling that this was due to the location as there appear to be a couple of homeless or shady shelters on the same street. But that didn't bother me too much. Also, I unfortunately was going there while they were building a new building across the street. So there was thing film of dirt/dust on a lot of the shelf items. Lastly, the male staff there have always been polite to me--- not talkative but polite. But most recently, it was an older female employee who kept watching me with a suspicious look as if she thought I was going to steal.P.S.: SINCE THE MODERATOR IS TOO LAZY to update the store hours, please note that they are not open on the weekend. That was another downside.

I call this place Sketch Deli, the out side looks a bit sketchy and on the inside you wouldn't expect them to serve you lasagna, spaghetti and teriyaki. I was able to try their spicy teriyaki and chicken katsu. I was surprised at the amount of flavor the dish had. For a hole in the wall deli place, I wouldn't mind saving a good amount of cash towards lunch. Compared to the other restaurants located around the area, Home deli is very affordable. Their daily specials and even cheaper. I haven't tried their subs yet... I will eventually (depending on my liking that day). The owners here are very nice. I want to call out that they have a $5 minimum purchase for credit/debit cards. So if you're in the area and want to avoid paying $8-15 for a lunch meal, head of to Home Deli (aka Sketch deli).
