The place used to be good maybe about 20 years ago, but now since the economy and covid happened, everything just been very slow and the business also went downhill. When I first moved to City Heights, I live on 41st street, so it would be walking distance for me to get some groceries especially to cook Vietnamese or Chinese food, their seafood and poultry aren't the best, mostly frozen and not fresh, a bit old as well, but everything else from vegetables, spices, fruits, Asian specialties were ok, if you don't live near Vien Dong, you can grab similar items here, for a small market that is; my grandpa spoke to the owner, it seems he planned to close down if the business doesn't get better this year, I felt very bad to see it go though.

Parking lot was full for a Wednesday afternoon. It's got overpriced spices, but if you lived close by, it won't make a difference if you walked there. They have a pretty good selection of vegetables, dry noodles, and some odd balls like frozen tri-colored corn. I paid cash, but I wasn't provided a receipt. The cashier was nice to the other customers. I don't know if I will be back.

I'm good reviewing this little gem. First complaint I saw on the other reviews was the smell. If you have never been to foreign markets, this smells dead on. It didn't smell bad, it smelled like you walked into a market in Singapore or Japan. I don't understand the complaints on the staff, everyone was super friendly, and they had a lot of cool fruits I have not seen since I was over seas. Sooo yeah, I will totally be back

I totally digged this little ghetto store and meat market! This market had everything an Asian could ever want in a market. I came in to get ingredients to make PHO. I was very impressed by the fresh produce and variety. The selection of Asian sauces, mixes, vegetables, noddles, teas, was awesome! The meat selection was very fresh and well priced! The fresh whole fish selection was impressive too!The staff was very courteous and helpful! My mother just moved into this neighborhood and I will be looking forward to stopping in here for some exotic shopping!

This hole-in-the-wall shop is much smaller than a 99 Ranch, but has similar offerings in an area that may not have many Asian grocery options nearby. That being said, it's convenient that they have both meat and fresh seafood available for purchase, in addition to the vegetables. The building is in the back corner of the plaza, so don't mistake it for the Mexican grocery market within the same plaza. It's also quite old and reminds me of markets in the Chinatown of other cities. Overall, it's not an outstandingly huge selection, but has a decent amount of Asian food choices to get most of what you need.

Serious hole in the wall, but it pretty much had everything I needed to make Vietnamese ca-ri (curry) and for cheap!I was able to get ginger, lemongrass, cilantro, onions, a huge bag of shallots, garlic-chili paste, 4oz. of curry powder, two cans of coconut milk, and a bag of onion ring chips (the Asian kind, couldn't resist) for about $12. Major steal for a recipe that makes at least 8 servings!Definite go-to for those specialty Asian items you need for your pantry!

On a job in City Heights, I was prompted to pick up ingredients for a Thai dinner. Yelp mobile app TO THE RESCUE! While I had no reviews to go on, it pointed me to a grocery that featured Thai and oriental items only 3 blocks away. I finished up the job and headed for Hoa Hing Market. The strip mall it is in features numerous ethnic stores, and the parking lot is quite busy. After securing a space in the lot, I entered the store. The store is separated into groceries, produce and butcher on one side, with pots, pans and other housewares on the other side. The entrance to the store is on the grocery side, and access to the housewares is on the other side of the registers at the front of the store and through a doorway at the back of the store, next to the butcher. This is a smaller grocery, with oriental, hispanic and american grocery offerings. There are 5 aisles, set up with oriental offerings on one side, hispanic and american offerings on the other. I was in search of several items for Pad Thai and Som Tom, and found everything I was looking for. While most oriental grocery stores offer multiple examples of every product, Hoa Hing does not have the space available for such an offering. The butcher shop, like the store, is not large. While it is not dirty, per se, it could certainly benefit from some updating. The produce aisle, while also smaller, is stocked with wonderfully fresh fruit and vegetables. It suffers similar to the butcher shop, not dirty but could use some updating. The prices on their offerings are a bit lower than other ethnic markets I have shopped in and around San Diego. The challenge:finding myself in the neighborhood so infrequently, it is a bit out of the way for me to come here. If I am going to do a big pantry restock, this is the place I will come to...but if I only need a few items to fill out a meal, I probably won't.Pros:Smaller, great prices, has everything I am looking for.Cons:In need of some updating in the butcher shop and produce aisle.

Tiny little market (which doesn't mean bad by itself), decent selection of hard to get items/spices. Giving it a 1 because when I walked in the door there was about a dozen flies just hovering by the register. Not what I want to see around produce and meats.

I'm not really sure why this establishment has 4 stars but if I could give it 0 I would. Extremely dirty, veggies are being watered pot that looks like it has fungus on it. The store smells and no not like foreign foods or spices but actual hot garbage. They also charge .50 cents for debit card purchases under a certain price which is not only a scam but illegal. Save your money, and your nose.
