Zai is the like the unassuming corner store that you'd never guess would be stocked with unique, hard-to-find treasures! And once you find out, you can't stop telling others about it!Everything we tried here was absolutely stunning - both in presentation and flavor. And the creativity level... literally WOW! Amazing. My favorite concept was the corn ribs which are grilled just like normal BBQ ribs, and cut with some of the hard corn plant center still attached so they imitate meat-based rib bones. How awesome is that?!We also tried:- Banh mi bao with charcoal buns- Sushi bunker- Pork belly enchiladas- Recommended mocktailOur service was also exceptional! We were the only ones in the restaurant at the time, so we got a lot of positive attention. We even met the kingpin chef himself!

*** This review is for the Restaurant Week menu 2023 ***I ate out several places during the two week Restaurant Week period. This ranks with the top two or three. I had a reservation for 5:15 and I got there a few minutes before. I was given the option of sitting at the bar or one of their two tops. I chose to sit at a table with my back to Fremont Street.I was asked about water and a drink. When I asked for iced tea, my server, Maya, told me they didn't have iced tea. Instead, I got a diet Coke. When she brought the Coke, she also brought a glass of water. I told her I wanted to do the RW menu. There was nothing to order as the menu was set with one item per four courses.I was first brought the corn ribs. This is unique to me. They cut the corn cobs into quarters, put on the seasonings for Mexican street corn, and then heat the quarters. During the heating, the pieces tend to bend. A warning--they come out blisteringly hot. Use care if you pick them up immediately. And, have your napkin ready--you'll need it. The spices are on point and the dish is very good. While I was eating one of the corn ribs, Maya came with two courses, the bánh mi pork sliders and the Nashville shrimp. The sliders have thick cubes of pork belly with as the menu says--fixings and chile de arbol kewpie. The Nashville shrimp are pieces of fried shrimp with honey yum yum sauce, and it's on a bed of their slaw. For dessert, there is the chocorol. It's a roll of thin chocolate cake filled with hazelnut cream with strawberry coulis and some fresh strawberries and blueberries. A fitting end to a large and very tasty meal.Chef Benny came to the table twice to check on how I liked the food. He's a very personable guy. He also stopped at other tables to talk with them. I'm not sure how much he can do this when they're very busy, but it is always nice to meet the executive chef.Service was very pleasant. The one drawback for me was bringing the pork sliders and the shrimp at the same time. It did give me a chance to let the corn ribs cool so I could pick them up easier, but my sliders and shrimp weren't as hot as I went back and forth between a slider and some shrimp. After finishing the corn and the dessert, I went to the men's room to wash up. The corn will get your fingers messy, and it's such a good messy! This was a fitting end to my RW experiences and it was a great way to end. Chef Benny waved as I left. Check the historical marker in the sidewalk at their entrance. The city added several on Fremont Street years ago.

First, if you're vegetarian or vegan this is NOT the place for you.We went as a large group of 16 ppl as part of a 40th bday celebration, and the restaurant was not prepared to handle such a large group. Our waitress, Natalie, was great, but the service was incredibly slow and they were out of many dishes, including the corn ribs, which is one of their only signature vegetarian dishes. The manager came to check on us at the end of the meal, and one of us politely mentioned that the service had been slow, and his response was "yeah, because we're busy" with no apology. This was despite having many empty tables throughout the restaurant. As far as the food, we ordered the fries, hummus, and edamame to share, and I ordered the agnolotti without the pancetta. The hummus was really good, but didn't come with enough pita bread and it took too long to get more. The edamame had a really nice kick and the fries were thick cut, long strips that were good, but nothing amazing. The agnolotti was the worst dish...bland and more like mushroom soup with a few pcs of agnolotti inside. I also ordered the only mocktail available because I'm not drinking right now and it was horrible. It just tasted like flavored syrup with water. As a side note, if you're vegan, there is virtually nothing for you, except possibly the hummus without the egg.

So first off this place is like "Firefly" everything on the menu is app size & it the food comes out as it's made so not everyone at the table will get their food at the same time. My husband ordered the steak it was okay & I had to wait another 20mins for my burger & it didn't come out the way I ordered it @ that point I was just starving & just took it. The service isn't that great but it's a new restaurant so hopefully they can get that figured out soon. The food is definitely instagramable but as far as taste goes ehhhh doesn't live up to the hype for me personally. The drinks tasted just like juice nothing to rave about. The best part was the dessert but I've never had a bad dessert lol We might go back & try their rooftop but as far as the restaurant goes I'd pass.

Zai is Latin-American gastronomy kitchen Led by Chef Noe Alcala. We went during soft-opening and both service and food quality was on point. A few standouts were the homemade tortellinis with a creamy mushroom sauce, the roasted elote with lime pop rocks, and the octopus with squid aioli and romesco. The drinks were also well-crafted and had a hard time deciding which one was our favorite. (It's the coffee one mixed with tea!)Another unique concept is that 20% of their dishes are improvised nightly and the chefs are encouraged to create dishes depending on the ingredients available for the day. Everything is made in-house, and everything is created with passion. They also have a club upstairs ready to cater you after downing a few cocktails and tequila!

The security and the lady at the front were soo rude to my friends and I . The lady tried charging us to get in after we had bottle service and the security guard was PUSHING my girlfriends and I , guarding us so we couldn't get into the club because we didn't pay but we had a whole bottle and hookah, the security also called us out our names and was just very rude and un professional .

Service was amazing, food was just ok. Meet a girlfriend for dinner. Natalie was really friendly and informative about the menu. Unfortunately the food was a little disappointing. We ordered the corn ribs, scallop appetizer, bunker sushi roll and the bao sliders. The corn ribs were just ok. A little undercooked and not enough flavor. The scallop dish just didn't quite work. Didn't love the texture(s) or the combo of flavors. The bao sliders were good. And the sushi roll was just ok (tastes more like a fancy California roll but too pricy). Might try it out again. The menu has interesting items and again the service was great. And comfy environment.

Came here thinking it was Zoo nightclub. Nonetheless, the cover to get in was a scam. One guy quoted one price, then the lady charged a completely different price even though she was sitting right next to the guy who quoted the original fee- go figure. Once you walk up the steep stairs you enter the venue, they have indoor area that surrounds the bar and an outdoor rooftop area where the DJ is playing. Plenty of floor space to dance on and the bartenders are attentive. The restroom did not have soap or paper towels, a stall was out of service and overflowing onto the floor, the restroom mirror was covered in a film with white spots. Overall an okay place that needs to make major improvements.

Can't even keep a reservation. Don't waste your time or money with this wantabe makeshift restaurant. Worst customer service ever. There are so many other places downtown with better food, and people who care...don't let social media fool you.

Went here for my 12 year anniversary. Neat little spot in downtown. Hostess was very kind and our waitress was awesome. Food was on point. Loves the tomatoes (there take on caprese salad). Ended with the Shibuya dessert which was honey toast with a scoop of ice cream. Simple and very satisfying. We just did tapas, but would definitely come back to get through the dinner menu. We were pretty full after a few appetizers. Finally I really like that they plate the food on a counter exposed to the whole restaurant so you can see them perform the finishing touches on your food that come from the kitchen. Awesome ambiance!!
