The retreat is a beautiful mountain lodge with lots of ambience and a warm and inviting wood interior as you would expect. Inside here is the Canyon Restaurant, and that's really the focus of my review today. The restaurant feels really spacious and open as you enter, with it's glorious vaulted ceilings and large bar area with ample seating. We were seated at a table by the windows on the elevated dining section which provided nice views while enjoying our meal.Food was really quite good, I particularly enjoyed the spring rolls appetizer that came with a lovely tangy chili sauce. It was a good size and more than enough for two people. For entrees we tried the NY steak and the pork chops. Both were good, though the steak was done slightly more than the medium rare asked for. The mash and gravy that came with the pork chops was excellent, as was the zucchini side that came with both entrees. Our server was great, very friendly and made sure we were taken care of throughout, I was actually extremely impressed with the service. Now, this was during the off season, so it wasn't busy, I could imagine it could be quite crazy in here during busy periods.Overall, it's decent value for money, a little pricey but there's really no where else around to eat if you're visiting mount Charleston, and the ambiance and decent quality food makes it worth it and a good spot to eat if you're up in the mountains hiking or just enjoying the views.

Be sure to call, especially if you're local, as they have a discount for locals and would have upgraded our room if we hadn't booked online through Expedia. My husband was doing a nice thing by surprising me for our 45th wedding anniversary and booked online. The first nights receptionist, Linda, said all she could do was give us two gift cards worth $25 off for dinner at their restaurant. The restaurant food was fair. We shared the pork chop dinner, which came with two overcooked/dry pork cutlets, yummy veggie mix, and red mashed potatoes, which were good. We asked for extra gravy to smother our pork chops in, and they brought that at no extra charge. We shared a slice of lemon cake for dessert, which was flavorful yet a tad dry. The accommodations were extremely outdated and needed to be repaired, as you can see from my photos. The bed was comfortable, yet we were awakened by early morning knocking, banging noises. Apparently, they are in the process of making renovations. My husband had booked us for two nights, but after barely sleeping, we checked out the next morning before 11AM. The receptionist at that time said the manager would be in on Sunday and could remove the second nights stay for us. She would give us a phone call. We thanked her. It will be a week tomorrow. since our visit, and no one has called to reassure us that this charge had been refunded, nor has it shown up on our credit card. I will update this if that happens. We were going to take some trails, but most of the ones we wanted to see were closed due to snow a few days prior. Lastly, it was a beautiful location. No spa, though, and no elevator, so beware if you have bad knees like myself; you'll be climbing up and down multiple flights of stairs to your room. We had a kind porter to carry our luggage up and down, thankfully. We tipped him in kind.

Came for lunch. Good food- we got burgers, fries, sweet potato waffle fries, chips and salsa and chili. Friendly staff- our server Victor was very nice! Comfortable seating- was not loud or packed so it was great with our 7 month old. Nice views- walk in the back patio after or go to the visitor center nearby

My family and I came here for lunch before going hiking at a nearby trail. I liked the woodsy atmosphere of the hotel and restaurant. We were seated right away at a closed off, upper level table. We had a nice view of the whole restaurant from up there. Our waitress was super nice and even answered some questions we had about the hotel. To start off we got some chicken wings. They were huge! We got them dry with the buffalo and blue cheese dressing on the side. They were really tasty and juicy because they were brined. For my entree, my Mom and I split a BLT sandwich with added turkey, onion rings and a side of ranch. The BLT was good with lots of bacon and tomatoes. My Dad had the Bratwurst and my brother got the Philly Cheesesteak with fries. I really liked their fries, they were crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. We had an enjoyable lunch which fueled us up for our hike and we needed it because it ended up being a longer hike than we expected.

The lobby is so worn out. The stuffed bear is missing claws & several teeth. Dusty, dirty, cobwebs hanging in many places. Christmas lights up but halfway falling down and into a chair. The staff hangs out joking around. I felt like I was in a old teenagers hangout joint. The mens room was a shambles with broken doors, toilet paper strewn about. I'm glad I did not stay.

My husband and I really wanted to love this place. I went years ago as a child and loved the charm that The Retreat on Charleston Peak provided.Unfortunately, that was years ago and service and upkeep of this resort has gone downhill. The website states that the hotel is dog friendly, that there is a restaurant, a 24/7 cafe, and a bar available. This is all technically true. From check in to check out, we experienced such horrific customer service by nearly every staff member that worked at this establishment. I never expected Vegas customer service, but I never anticipated feeling like I was an inconvenience just by existing in the same location as staff members. Basic tasks: ordering dinner, ordering a drink at the bar, buying waters at the "cafe", and getting checked in all felt like I was bothering the staff... I was one of the few guests actually staying at the hotel the night we checked in which made it even more absurd. The exception was one young staff member who was super kind to me and my dogs... I'm sorry I did not get his name and if he is reading this thank you for your great service my pugs loved you! He seemed to float around between the front desk, bellhop of sorts, and the cafe. He was super awesome and they are getting an extra star because of how happy he made my dogs. Due to a clear staffing shortage that was verbalized by nearly every staff member, guests who bring their dogs must order their food at the restaurant and then wait at the patio outside for their food to be delivered. I don't mind this being the case but it seemed like staff was confused by the policy, and staff gave conflicting information regarding this recent change. (Supposedly they changed this service for dog owners because they are short staffed and can't keep up with the tables outside.) Also, we ordered a side of ranch that took about 25 minutes to appear... and it was only received because I went back to ask about it. The staff member who ended up getting it for me told me that the server who was supposed to get it for me lied about bringing it over to me... the whole thing was odd and they treated my husband horribly when he ordered the food to begin with. There were only 2 customers in the actual restaurant at the time and instead of sending me to wait on the patio to be forgotten, they could have just grabbed the ranch when I requested it and it would have been over with. For over $100 meal for two, you would expect slightly better service especially when they had no one in the restaurant. In the evening an angry guest cursed out the staff and manager who did not appear to be around while the guest was screaming in the lobby clearly upset about the service of the hotel. The guest and their partner stormed out. It made for an awkward evening. Finally: the ambiance. Back in the day this hotel was clearly beautiful but it has not been kept up. The taxidermy bear in the lobby is missing body parts and stuffing is coming out of him, the stairs to the rooms are coming apart and there is not clear signage to the rooms, and our shower in the room was so filthy we did not take a shower. There's mountain charm and then there's a lack of cleanliness and the shower was unacceptable. We considered leaving after dinner but we had the dogs which would have made it a whole ordeal and we knew they would not give us our money back so we decided to stay overnight and leave the next day as planned but it was an uncomfortable night. Finally, at check out I was asked how my stay was. When I went, "Umm..." trying to think of the words to say without being completely terrible, the agent cut me off and went, "It was great? Excellent. You're checked out now- have a great day." There was no one behind me- they just did not want to hear it. They clearly do not care about the feedback because there is no competition in that area at this time. The area surrounding the hotel is beautiful and there is so much potential, but I will not be recommending this business until changes are made.

This place is a perfect little escape from Vegas (or any city). Easy drive from Vegas. Went there to check it out for lunch, since it's during the week it was pretty empty with plenty of parking available. The bar is detached from the main restaurant but you can still order any food you'd like. The burger was solid, and had a couple cold beers. You can play music in the jukebox and play some pool. Best part is the view of the mountain and the fact that it's quite a bit cooler temperature wise than the valley. Nice road leading in and out. Bartender was super nice, can't remember her name but she was great and I told her I'd come back and visit again soon. Thank you!

First time at the restaurant & not aware it was still the Holiday Brunch menu. For the price, it was not worth it. Presentation was sloppy, understaffed, and not worth it. Once the regular menu comes back we may try that. But the Lodge is nice
