Had a really great meal here. I've been wanting to spot this place for a while and finally made it.The lamb dumplings with a mango chutney were great with a surprising flavor that worked well. The beef crisps were good, but very rich and surprisingly a bit sweet. The short ribs and kimchi fried rice were cooked well, and the rainbow trout was an interesting presentation for a tasty dish. Service was great, and we would happily come back.

I've been wanting to try this place for the longest time. Chef Jamie's place, I think she was on a few shows I don't recall what but all I remember was the SALMON SKIN TACOS. was super excited to try that. This was a nice dark, cozy atmosphere perfect for date nights. Service was attentive and I even got to talk to chef a little bit. I had so many questions about the menu lol. Salmon skin tacos. from the menu- "two salmon skin tacos filled w/ salmon tartare, tobiko, smoked anaheim peppers, micro cilantro" and also had some jalapeno aioli. I felt like the Skin was a little hard to bite through. I really liked the smoked Anaheim pepper. It added a very nice herbaceous flavor to it. The dish was very delicate overall in flavor, maybe could use a touch more of salt... maybe soy sauce? Was super good though. Oxtail empanadas. "pickled shallots, lotus root slaw, coriander, chimichurri" Nice slaw... Braised oxtail very tender. Good flakiness on empanadas. Delicate flavors again but I guess the salt is mostly in the pickles. nice attention to detail. Hamachi. "sake ponzu, shaved watermelon radish, nori flakes, persimmons, micro cilantro" Very umami. Bright and sharp contrast. Very salty. Crispy seaweed? Nice mix of textures. Crunchy radish and fragrant. The dish was very seaweed/ nori forward. it tasted like the nori / mushroom paste that my family put into porridge. loved the leftover sauce overall... we were sipping from the bowl lol.The fried whole rainbow trout was also a must. I basically ate the whole thing... the entire face... things I haven't eaten before... lol maybe it wasn't a great idea. I'm pretty sure the thing was deboned but there were some parts that were still hard like the fins and the eyeballs lol. the rice wine vinegar sauce was SO GOOD. man... just that sauce with the rice... I could eat that every morning. I'm not used to the extravagance of deboned fish lol. was a very nice touch.Braised short rib " kimchi fried rice, green scallions, sesame seed, pickled red radish, sunny side up egg" the beef was so tender and falls apart. took no effort to eat. really hearty and filling dish.Def will be back to try everything else.

I was always a fan of Jamie on Top Chef and was excited to visit her restaurant on a recent trip to Vegas. Getting a restaurant was pretty easy although the place was busy on a Friday so I would suggest making one. It's away from the Strip and in a strip mall so parking is easy which is nice if you're driving. For a group of four, we decided to just split a few things instead of ordering individually. With drinks and a dessert this came out to $160ish which felt quite reasonable and we had some (small) leftovers. We got:- lamb dumplings: the combination of the peach/chili with the lamb and the crispy shallots was fantastic. Great combination offlavors and textures- french onion soup: pretty pricey at $17 for a relatively small bowl and I only had a spoon but it seemed tasty just probably not worth the price and skipable in favor of some of the other entrees- imeperial rolls: these were just okay and I've had better. Best part was dipping the accompanying salad in the extra sauce from the dumplings - pear and apple salad: this was alright but I wanted maybe some more Asian touches to go with the rest of the flavor profiles on the menu. I also wanted the dressing to have more punch. The pecans and the pancetta did add some nice crunch. This was also the only salad on the menu when we went so if you are looking for one, this is your one option- Whole trout: I didn't like the trout itself that much but the sauce and rainbow chard it came with were awesome. Honestly those were the best part of this dish but I thought it was overall pretty tasty- Slow braised rib: love the pairing of this and the kimchi fried rice it comes with. The short rib itself I wanted to be a little more tender and to fall apart but this was pretty good. I would say the sides on this one also overshadowed the mainsWe also had some kind of rolled vanilla and mango cake for dessert that was a nice end to the meal.Service was generally good though I think they areunderstaffed and water glasses remained empty for a very long time until explicitly asked. Jamie wasvery personable when we briefly talked to her and even asked about the fires in LA when a couplepeople mentioned they were visiting from there.I would be back as I liked the overall experience and there's more on the menu I would like to try. I think this restaurant is best for a group of somewhat adventurous eaters who are down to share so you can try different things. The menu does have stuff that not everyone may want to try- salmon tartare, beef tartare, oxtail, calamari, lamb, duck, pork jowl, etc. I wouldn't come here with vegetarians (only a few options on the menu although I assume more can be modified) or picky eaters.

My coworker wanted to dine here because of the chef's reputation. Small establishment in a strip mall. They charge for water. We ordered several apps. The salmon skin tacos were taco shells made of salmon skin. It wasn't for me. The ribeye was a small portion, but cooked well. The potatoes that came with it were not good - very bland au gratin. Lots of Willamette Valley wine options. Overall I don't think I'll be added this to my list of places to dine while in Vegas.

We are out of towners. We wanted to get away from the strip and I wanted to eat at a celebrity chef's restaurant. Top Chef is one of our favorite shows. And we were not disappointed with our evening meal. We started with the hamachi crudo, it was lite and delicate with all the right flavors. Next we tried the salmon skin tacos. Do not skip ordering this app. The tacos were crispy and the salmon tartare was well balanced with the shishito peppers. It would be a repeat every-time. Lastly, I was craving duck. The curry sauce with the couscous was a great combination. I wanted to lick my bowl. Since we were celebrating a big bday, the chef gave us a complimentary dessert, which I was happy we didn't pass it up. It was a mango cake but it wasn't too sweet and my husband & I couldn't stop eating it. A memorable dinner, too bad we don't live in Vegas. We would come more often.

My wife and I have been wanting to eat here for the longest time, and we are glad to have finally tried The Black Sheep. What a pleasant experience! The food was everything we expected them to be, and meeting such an accomplished Chef in Jamie Tran was an absolute bonus!

Went to this spot for a date night and I consider it a bit of a hidden gem given that it's located in a strip mall. The dishes were elevated and delicious. It's probably hard to compete in a town that has so many outstanding food options. Service was solid, friendly and efficient.

The Black Sheep is located in a strip mall about 15-20 minutes off strip, in a non-descript strip mall...but well worth the drive. Food was outstanding. Don't miss the salmon skin tacos (limited availability) and the apple/pear blue cheese brûlée salad. Would travel back to Vegas just for that!Service was warm, welcoming and relaxed. We went early and the place was full by the time we left. Definitely a neighborhood gem.

Has reservations early Friday night. Was sat immediately. Our server was great. The perfect blend of attentive without being over bearing. Friendly. Welcoming. We got the lamb dumplings and the calamari. The calamari was super original. Light airy hot crunchy with a touch of heat. My only wish is the sauce - amazing - was on the side as my the calamari got a bit soggy in that spot. The lamb dumplings were phenomenal, the intoxicating smell when they lifted the cloche made my mouth water. The flavors flirted with perfection I just wish the dumpling dough was thinner. For our main dish we got the pork jowl and the ribeye. The pork jowl had good flavor and was amazingly but lacked texture. The seeds on top were not enough. The ribeye was cooked very well and didn't have a ton of excess fat on it. The scallops that accompanied the dish were cold and polenta a touch grainy.

The Black Sheep is a neighborhood Modern Vietnamese/American Restaurant by well seasoned chef Jamie Tran who has worked under some of Las Vegas's finest chefs and who also was a competitor on the Bravo TV Show Top Chef. Many of the dishes are amazing and are unique to this restaurant. We always love the salmon skin tacos, The Hamachi so far has also been unusually delicious. The chef's signature dish is the completely edible crispy trout. I had it four times out of my last five visits. Only the first two times was it crispy all over. The last time it didn't have any crisp at all...This time only a couple bites were crispy. (See pictures you can see they look completely different).I have recommended this restaurant to many people but now I have to add that the trout hasn't been crispy lately.
