During my recent trip to Las Vegas, I decided to venture into the local Japanese dining scene instead of sticking with my original steakhouse plans. After considering a couple of Izakaya options, I chose to give Izakaya Go a try and managed to snag counter seats. The service had its ups and downs. A young gentleman with glasses and curly hair was our primary server for most of the evening, and his service was attentive and friendly. A young lady with a nose piercing also stood out for her warm and efficient service, reminiscent of the excellent hospitality we're used to in Japanese restaurants back home in LA. Unfortunately, our interactions with another staff member, a woman with shoulder-length hair, were less pleasant. Her demeanor felt a bit off, and she even questioned if one of the dishes we ordered seconds of was actually good. It was an odd and unnecessary comment, which made us uncomfortable to the point of avoiding her whenever possible. As for the food, we ordered quite a variety, too much to list here, but overall, it was enjoyable. Nothing stood out as extraordinary, but there wasn't anything we disliked either. The dishes were solid, and we left satisfied. Despite the one awkward encounter, the overall experience and food quality make Izakaya Go a spot we'd return to on our next trip to Vegas.

I didn't pass Go, and I spent a considerably high fraction of $200.Izakaya Go is a decade-long resident of a small plaza on the southeast corner of Spring Mountain and Valley View. Beloved by Yelpers (as of 2023, per Yelp certificate and sticker both on display) and de facto food critics alike, they may have been more crowded than usual when I finally decided to check them out because CES was underway. After signing the clipboard and waiting perhaps 45 minutes, my friend and I were able to be seated at the bar. I recommend choosing a table if possible as service felt a bit inattentive. Perhaps it was due to how I ordered everything all at once instead of breaking it up into rounds? Oh, and a live sports warning: some TVs were buffering (YouTube TV), while only one seemed reasonably close to a live showing of the College Football Playoff semifinal game.I'll just list the items in the order which they appeared on my camera photos, and mark the good stuff with a (+) or similar.(+) Miso Marinated Beef Tongue ($6.95): pretty tender and not too salty, although the presence of so much marinade in the bowl like a brown soup killed any visual appeal it may have had. Surprisingly large portion.Amberjack (Kanpachi) nigiri ($6.95): pretty bland compared to how I've experienced this fish before, and also had at least 10% excess rice. I have consistently good sushi at another izakaya not too far from here, so this was a big case of negative foreshadowing.(+) Chicken Skin Skewer ($2.75): pretty crispy, not airy/puffy as I was kinda hoping for. It was lightly coated with a nice sweet sauce, which mostly served to make me wonder why I couldn't get that sauce on other skewers. It really would've helped some of them out.(+) Beef Skewer ($2.95): tender-enough steak, free of connective tissue. Good value for carnivores.Pork Belly Skewer ($2.95): very straightforward salt and char, but didn't have very much of the fatty portion of the belly.(+) Chicken Wing Skewer ($2.95): great juicy flat portion, which is the ideal way to get charred dark meat chicken. Unfortunately, the drumette was too burnt.(+) Soft Shell Crab ($8.95): four halves of crispy tempura crab with a great ponzu sauce and a lemon wedge. Quite good overall, although part of the shell did feel a tiny bit chewy.New Zealand Lamb Chop ($4.50): gamey lamb. Just tender enough. Comes with a spicy/zesty condiment that is basically fighting fire with fire. Would've liked some more nuance.(+) Pork Cheek ($9.95): great crunchy thin slices of pork. The gingered scallion was a bit heavy on the palate. A bit more balance and/or a sweet glaze would have made it really unforgettable.(+) Takoyaki ($6.95): pretty standard crispy balls of dough with tender octopus in the center. The katsu sauce, bonito, and kewpie mayo kinda felt a bit heavy, so you're gonna want to order this in a small round of apps and/or pair it with a drink of some sort. The recommendation is for affordability.(++) Hokkaido Scallop Skewer ($4.95): nearly last, but not least, a stick of three small but delicious sea scallops. The usual medallion alone would have been really soft on its own, but they left some of the connective tissue, which was chewy yet tender enough to chew through. A well-thought-out preparation.(+++) Tuna Belly Skewer ($3.50): a thoroughly seared exterior hid a surprisingly super-tender tuna. For sure a must-try here if you want tuna with a bit of fattiness without paying premium bluefin prices.(++) Uni Chawan Mushi ($8.95): a very nice treat. Silky egg, dashi, a few random embedded treats (mushroom, some random protein that could've been fish, and perhaps some sort of shellfish), and a passable piece of uni on top. I'd still get the uni for the modest premium over the base chawan mushi.Izakaya Go is a place you do want to pass if you want to find the very best izakaya in town that isn't hit-or-miss. They have some great offerings and some mediocre ones, but I have experienced more consistent deliciousness recently at still-active local competition.Still, maybe I'll return for late night happy hour (10pm 'til close) or if I wanna try specific dishes, such as udon - a relatively rare offering around town - and yuzu cheesecake. I kinda overordered and didn't feel like I had the room for dessert. Sadly, while leaving, I noticed a yuzu sorbet on the dessert menu which I would've been able to handle.

So happy they've stepped up their game and took care of all the health code violations from two years ago. They have an "A" rating as of August of this year. Honestly, I can only comment on the Sushi as we have yet to try anything else. Their sushi is scrumptious. Tastes fresh and it's impressive to watch them make. The California Roll had a little too much cucumber and very little crab meat. My vote for winning roll goes to the Spicy Tuna Roll. There's a wonderful spicy mayo that brings the whole thing together. I love the atmosphere. For me it's comfortable. I can see where they'd get busy. Pro Tip: if you eat at the counter, you get better, faster service. Not that there's anything wrong with anywhere else in the room.

Got late night munchies AND got a hankering for authentic Japanese izakaya and comfort food? This is the place for you and your group! Their nightly late happy hour specials that start at 10pm and go to 2am can't be beat! From great handrolls, to satisfying half-serving ramens and full-sized curry rice plates, plus a varied izakaya menu of various meats and delicacies, there's something for everyone without breaking the bank. It does get packed and wait times exceeding 20 min is not uncommon, so come early during the late night happy hour to get seated the quickest. The place is lively and bustling all night. Service is attentive and regular, even with a packed house. The food is delightful and comforting. The half-order tonkotsu ramen hits the spot, with a quarter soy egg and a couple thick chashu slices to boot. The deep fried oysters with the sweet dipping sauce goes perfect together. The poke hand roll with its salmon and tuna mix is light but packed with flavor. Izakaya standouts include the crispy chicken skin, uniquely tasting chicken gizzard, and melt in your mouth Hokkaido scallop. For what you get here compared to everywhere else around in the area, it's definitely worth a trip out especially after a long day of shopping and fun!

Closely located by the I-15 and Spring Mountain West is this wonderful hole in the wall Japanese restaurant. The Yakitori choices made the experience feel like fun tapas style serviceWe enjoyed all the dishes such as the Blue Fin Ponzu Sushi Rolls, the Karaage, and especially the pork cheek. The skewered eel and grilled tuna also did not disappoint. The bacon wrapped asparagus needed a little more seasoning and sear. For desert, we had green tea ice cream and this item called Yuzu Rare Cheesecake. The cheesecake was amazing. Most Asian deserts, in comparison to American deserts are very light in texture and mildly flavored but this cheesecake is close to a NY cheesecake with a thin layer of gelatinous yuzu. Great combination! The green tea ice cream is also authentic, with that pale green color and stronger matcha flavor. Being that the place is small, I felt a tad bit rushed, though service was very polite and efficient. Quick acknowledgement, and tea refills were provided. I understand the need for higher turnover from the perspective of the business. Overall satisfied and will return.

This place is a blast! I was amazed by the food quality across a menu so immense. They basically have the entire Japanese cuisine on offer and seem to do it justice. Our party of four was able to get in without a reservation on a Saturday night by arriving just after 5. I wouldn't try that at 7!Fave yakitori: chicken meatball, chicken heart, Hokkaido scallop. Some of the skewers needed a little salt or weren't served hot from the grill, but all the ingredients were well cooked and delicious. The crab salad was surprisingly large and fun to eat with the crispy paper leaves. Sweet and tender sashimi. The pumpkin croquette is to die for.Wonderful sake selection at a wide range of prices. The $18 pineapple sake was enjoyed by all, including diners who prefer dry and those who prefer sweet. This may be a new favorite for us. There is so much we didn't try, it's almost like we'll get to eat at a new restaurant on our next visit.

Huge menu and everything came out fast and fresh. We tried many things on the yakitori menu and prices were great. The Uni chawanmushi was delicious. It's not a big restaurant so arrive early and make sure your name is on the wait list in the front. The servers are friendly, albeit busy. Just catch their attention and they'll come over right away.
