Vegas isn't always obvious with where to find the good stuff in terms of art. As with most cities, universities tend to have well-run art spaces that exhibit some relatively decent work. Donna Beam is no exception. This space often exhibits work from its MFA students as well as emerging artists from all over. The two-story gallery makes for very interesting exhibits. When I visited in November 2018, the exhibit ¡Americanx! was up featuring artists from the Latin art community in Vegas. You can't get more local than that! The gallery was filled with diverse pieces from selected artists that had previously been students at UNLV in addition to other emerging Latin artists. Being a gallery, you can expect this space to change its programming frequently. So be sure to check the calendar and see what's coming up next.

The culture in this city is hidden....well hidden. In fact that new slogan they are testing out, something like are you hiding your Vegas or whatever is actually fitting, because Vegas hides from Vegas!!The Donna Beam is a small gallery on the UNLV campus, and if you get connected with its schedule, you can always find a new exhibition from a really great young art department. I have spend many Friday nights hanging out at openings here. If you search out things in Vegas, they will appear, like the Donna Beam!

Even though it is locate don the UNLV campus, the Donna Beam Fine Arts gallery is open to the public. The best part is that most of the time it is free, and the artwork is usually from UNLV students. A lot of the collections are for final theses or graduate art students, so the quality is never less than stellar. From time to time there are receptions where you can mingle with the artist and other artsy fartsy types, and grab some wine and cheese in the process. Playing dress up is always fun, and pretending to be interested in some pretentious conversation is also a blast, so check out the gallery at UNLV. Bring your snobby game face or you just won't fit in...
