The tots here at won point. The right amount of crispy and flavor without being too salty or squishy or crunchy. The adult grilled cheese is also huge and tasty. I ordered a single French toast and it came out as three? Either way that was pretty good too and I took a bunch of it home because the portions are generous. Also had one of their drinks, which was quite nice. The ambiance is kind of old dinner and it's kind of unassuming from outside. The quality of food doesn't seem to match the decor of the place. It'd be cool if they could play more into the retro dinner ambiance maybe? Loved the cat photos though in the back room! The server was very attentive but did seem a bit annoyed when we asked for a little more time to decide on an order and when we asked for the check. They kept repeating it was "one tab" and we said yes that's fine but we didn't get our check yet so we can't pay if we don't have our bill. And they kept saying "Yes but it's one tab". I'm still not sure what was happening but eventually we got our check and paid and it was very reasonable pricing. I'm not sure if the one tab policy is typical or just because we were there for the Silent Book Club event - that would be important to know ahead of time. I'd love to come back for brunch though!

I've been to Hattie's many times. It's consistent, I'll give it that. They provide slightly overpriced, predictably decent diner food and drinks with a dive-y Northwest flare and atmosphere. Today I ordered a Pickle Bloody Mary and the Aunt Harriet's Country Breakfast. It was fine. The biscuit was mediocre at best (I've had biscuits from the Pillsbury cans that were better). The hashbrowns were adequate but poorly seasoned and a bit on the soggy side (maybe it's a matter of preference, but I think hashbrowns should be crisp). My husband ordered a scramble. We each had our meals, a cocktail each, and a coffee. We spent almost $90 on this meal. That seems pretty steep for a dive bar diner...On a separate occasion my girlfriend tried to order a BLT at 11 AM (brunch, almost lunch). And the waitress refused to serve her one before noon. However, she was able to order the bacon breakfast sandwich with the eggs on the side and add a tomato and a piece of lettuce. [If you're not tracking, that is a BLT...]. What the hell Hattie's? How can you be so pedantic? If you're looking for a Ballard diner, I highly recommend Salmon Bay. Better menu. Much better value!

After a chilly Sunday morning walking around the Farmers Market, come warm up your belly and soul with some hearty brunch. With a wide variety of options, this menu will have something for everyone. I stuck to a breakfast classic - everything bagel, cream cheese, egg, regular cheese.. then I subbed the bacon for tomato. This is one of my favorite breakfast dishes ever, so simple yet so filling! The kitchen is quick, despite being a full house, so don't worry if there's a small wait or it looks busy inside - the staff are true hustlers and get you feeling right with the quickness!

As other reviewers have noted, the biscuits weren't great here, but the rest of our group thought their meals and coffee were reasonable. I liked the Swedish pancakes although I was disappointed they didn't say the lingonberries were a jam more so than berries. I would recommend this restaurant to folks looking for a typical brunch experience. The quality was medium, the prices were typical for Seattle, and we didn't need a reservation at 10am although the line was long (maybe 10-15 people) when we left at 11am on Saturday morning. We spent $15-30 per person including tax and tip.

We recently went for our first post-"we had a baby and we're on a solo date" brunch and 10/10. First things first, this is a diner. Do not go expecting upscale farm to table with spacious airy "new seattle" vibes. Go expecting classic diner vibes. Service: 10/10. Our waiter was fantastic. She made great recs, was super friendly, checked on us the exact right amount, and made it fun and welcoming. Food: we both got Bennie's. I had mine with bacon on gf toast. Hubski has his with fried chicken and all the gluten. The sauce was 10/10 and they give you soooo much, not the skimpy dollop you get at some spots! I ordered an extra side in anticipation of a dry benny but did not need it. Ambiance: super classic diner vibes. Very nostalgic with the holiday decor and the benches. Absolutely recommend!

Super cool dive bar/diner vibe! In an old building that has doorbells that used to be used to call waitresses and the kitchen which is super cool! The server was so kind and patient with us our group took a while to decide on what to order. We went around 3pm so right between when they switched menus and they offered to let us put pancakes in (that was the only difference between the two menus) food was pretty good!

Ok, so this was a yelp fail for Sunday brunch. We trekked to Ballard for their "famous chicken fried chicken" which is chicken fried steak everywhere else. There is both indoor seating and covered outdoor seating options. Tip, if you are coming anywhere into Ballard on Sunday, there is a lot of traffic due to the Sunday farmers market, so be prepared to circle to locate parking. This place has an old, run down, dark diner vibes, and it really reminded me of this old hotel bar I was in Tucson. Music is really loud and food came out quick but chicken was clearly not fresh nor was the gravy on top, the chicken was not even hot and my breakfast companion left her entire plate uneaten except for the first few test bites. Undercooked chicken, gravy and potatoes. Not sure why this dish is "famous."We ordered a pitcher of pineapple mimosas that we drank less than half a glass each and left the rest. Overall for a meal that ran $75 including tip, inedible food and beverages with sinking booth seats and the heavy smell of cleaning products was not the experience we were seeking. Don't come here if you want Chicken Fried Steak.

Went here for lunch/late brunch. Good food and great drink options. The waitress/bartender was probably the rudest person I ever met - and I'm from New York. So I know. Rushed us out (there was no wait) and the "nice-ty" passive aggression was not lost on us. Would have been 5 otherwise.

I normally love Hattie's! I was born in Ballard and I've lived here my whole life, so Hattie's has always been a friendly face to me. Me and my boyfriend went to eat today (Sunday after the market), kind of a late breakfast, and our waitress seemed very annoyed and unhappy when taking our order. My boyfriend's food arrived cold and underdone. I ordered the pancakes, which the first few bites were good, but in the middle there were pieces of raw, wet dough. I've included a picture of the raw dough. I'll definitely be back at Hattie's for late night drinks, but probably not for brunch again.
