Handel’s Homemade Ice Cream

Right up there with Salt & Straw as my two favorite ice cream places. This place is awesome! So glad they opened this location so close to home. But, if there is a line out the door, do not hold the door open as you wait or the staff will yell at you. The lobby is set up really weird and there is a register right next to the door, so you can't really go inside to wait. And the menu is really hard to see as it is off to the side. It is also not clear where they want you to wait for your order, so people that have already paid are just standing around all over. There needs to be a designated pickup counter.

We usually make the trek out to Surprise because that is the location we know of that has Midnight Madness. My son's birthday was coming up and he wanted that particular ice cream and it just so happened there is a new location on lake pleasant parkway, close to where his sister's soccer team practices.As I pulled up, there was a line out of the door and stretching all the way to businesses next door. I thought surely my fellow Phoenicians are not standing out in 105 temps for ice cream. Turns out, yes, they definitely were. If you're wondering about if there were maybe fans or sprinklers outside for these sweaty sweet treat seekers? Yes, but only after you've ordered and sit outside. It would be super fantastic to have those for people waiting to pay in the line also. Once you make it inside, there are three registers/lines and plenty of staff making the scoops. There is also a pickup order window if you are wanting to use a pickup site or the Handel's site. There was no line there. There are plenty of flavors to choose from and I plead and beg with future patrons... know what you want before you get to the registers! Lots of people got to the front and didn't know what to get, which keeps the line long. Then, after you order, step aside and wait for your order instead of staying at the register. The ice cream is delicious and does the trick of cooling you down, but that is its job. There are at least four other ice cream places in a 2 mile vicinity. If it's novelty, nostalgia or not caring about waiting, go for it. On any other occasion, if I saw that line in this heat, it'd be a hard pass but my kiddo asked for it for his birthday so I did. The staff did yell out quite a few times to shut the door to those waiting in line. I saw that in other reviews but they weren't doing it rudely (more like the lifeguard saying don't run for the thousandth time). The people are hot and hankering for some Handel's (and a little ac, can you blame them?)

Was so disappointed, shocked & embarrassed how rude one of the staff members was as I waited in line with my family for ice cream this evening.We were so excited to try the new Handle's but we will not be back.Remember to treat people like you want to be treated in life.

Great new ice cream place in the Peoria four corners area. The place is decently busy but they did just open last week. My daughter got a medium and it was a crazy amount of ice cream but she ate it all and loved it. She went with a brownie flavor. The place is clean and the staff were friendly and helpful. We will be back.

This was our second visit to Handels. Again, service was spot on and ice cream delicious. We had cones of Black Cherry and Salted Carmel. Would get both again! In this heat it would be nice to be able to sit inside, but other than that 5 stars all the way!

Great selection of flavors but have noticed the scoops getting smaller each time we go since opening! Had the same order but scoops were tiny. Maybe employees need to be trained on consistency. Some employees aren't people friendly. Ice cream is good!

Very good ice cream. This being the first time being there, I found the ordering process rather confusing in terms of what you can have (or not) with different cost items. For instance they have cups and a larger bowl and within each category you can have a different number of scoops in each, also small scoop or larger ones and then some times you can't mix the flavor of ice cream and sometimes you can. Confused? So was I. The staff was helpful and they have to be with the order complications. No sure why it's so complicated but nevertheless good ice cream and reasonable prices.

We usually love Handel's! They are known for their big scoops and there is always a ton of ice cream that overflows small cups and cones. It has been worth the drive all the way to Waddell to treat our kids after games. So you can imagine our excitement with a Handel's opening right down the street on Lake Pleasant. We've been here 3 times now to support a local business and for a treat for the kids after a hot day. So disappointed that the serving size gets smaller every time we come. You are paying full price for half the amount of ice cream that you will get at any other Handel's here in the Valley. Not worth $40 for these three "small" size dishes and two shakes. Would recommend they send new employees to Waddle or other locations for training in scoops sizes that Handel's is known for so that this location would be as awesome as everywhere else. Otherwise it is better to drive to a further location or even just go to cold stone. We get it, it's a new place. We've come multiple times to support them. But when the quality is becoming less as time goes on and this business is known for their big scoops, it really needs to be fixed. Google other locations and look at review pictures, you will see the difference immediately.

Fantastic Ice cream! Service was amazing!Ambiance is cute and welcoming!Normally go to another ice cream shop down the street, but I've found my new go to spot!

Amazing ice cream at a great price :) Ordering is slightly confusing initially and interior seating is limited but staff is super friendly and the ice cream itself is... chef's kiss.
